CVE-2026-96360 affects certain releases of Drupal’s Webform module. The available Drupal.org advisory does not publish a CVE-specific detection rule, log signature, or monitoring procedure. The practical first step is therefore to check the installed Webform version against the affected ranges, then upgrade to the fixed release for that branch.
What CVE-2026-96360 is
Drupal.org describes CVE-2026-96360 as a cross-site scripting (XSS) risk in Webform, a Drupal module for building forms and managing submissions. In some configurations, specially crafted announcement text may not be properly sanitized. Webform uses JavaScript behaviours to announce dynamic form updates to assistive technologies, and the advisory links the risk to users interacting with the affected module.

Drupal.org’s advisory, SA-CONTRIB-2026-154, was dated 2026-09-23. It rates the issue “Moderately critical 11 ∕ 25.” That is Drupal’s advisory rating, not a CVSS score. The advisory characterizes attack complexity as basic, confidentiality and integrity impact as some, exploit maturity as theoretical, and target distribution as uncommon.

Which Webform versions are affected
According to the Drupal.org advisory, the affected ranges are:
#1 Best Overall
- Webform versions below 6.2.12.
- Webform versions 6.3.0 and later in the 6.3 line, but earlier than 6.3.1.
Use the fixed release for the branch you are running:
| Installed branch | Fixed target recommended by Drupal.org |
|---|---|
| 6.2.x | 6.2.12 |
| 6.3.x | 6.3.1 |
These targets are Drupal.org’s recommendations in the advisory. Check the live security advisory for any updates to affected ranges or fixed releases before acting.

How to assess and remediate exposure
- Identify the installed Webform release. Check the module version in your site’s dependency or deployment records, or in the Drupal administration interface where installed modules and their versions are shown.
- Compare the version with the affected ranges. A release below 6.2.12 is affected; in the 6.3 branch, 6.3.0 is affected and 6.3.1 is the listed fix.
- Upgrade the applicable branch. Move a 6.2.x installation to 6.2.12 or a 6.3.x installation to 6.3.1, following your normal Drupal update and deployment process.
- Verify the deployed version. Confirm the production installation is running the fixed release or a later release, rather than relying only on a change made in a development environment or an incomplete deployment.
What to monitor—and what the advisory does not provide
The advisory does not publish CVE-specific indicators of compromise, log signatures, detection rules, or monitoring steps. It also does not identify a product or service that detects this issue. Do not treat a generic XSS alert, a particular log query, or a security product’s claim as confirmation that it detects CVE-2026-96360 unless that capability is independently established.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor vulnerability tracking, record the installed Webform version and whether it falls within an affected range; after remediation, record and verify the fixed version in the deployed environment. The advisory alone does not establish how to identify prior exploitation or provide a reliable log-based test. If you need to investigate suspected activity, use your organization’s incident-response process and evidence from the affected site rather than assuming that this advisory supplies a signature.

The Drupal.org advisory names Pierre Rudloff of the Drupal Security Team as the reporter, and Jacob Rockowitz and Lee Rowlands as fixers. It does not provide a separate quotation from an individual. Its stated finding is limited to the XSS risk, the affected version ranges, the branch-specific fixed releases, and Drupal’s advisory rating.
