Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Package Brave as a manually specified Configuration Manager application, install it in the system context with a validated silent command, detect the machine-level browser by version, and roll it out through a pilot collection before production. The installer filename and switches can change between Brave releases, so test the exact file you package rather than copying an old version-specific example.
What you need before packaging
- Configuration Manager console access and permission to create applications, distribute content, and deploy to device collections.
- A test device collection and at least one accessible distribution point.
- The current stable Windows installer downloaded from Brave’s official download page or its official release repository.
- A versioned source folder containing only the installer and any install or uninstall scripts.
- A policy decision that the browser will be installed machine-wide rather than per-user.
Prefer a self-contained or standalone installer when Brave makes one available. An online bootstrapper can require Internet access, proxy authentication, or Local System network permissions that are not available on every client. Stable is the appropriate production channel; use Beta, Dev, or Nightly only for an explicitly managed test population.
Record the exact Brave release, filename, download date, digital-signature result, and hash according to your organization’s software-supply-chain policy. Do not reuse the historical 104.1.42.97 example found in older deployment guides.
Create the ConfigMgr application
- In the console, open Software Library > Application Management > Applications.
- Select Create Application.
- Choose Manually specify the application information. Microsoft documents this workflow, including deployment type content, commands, detection rules, and installation behavior, at Microsoft Learn.
- Enter metadata such as Name: Brave Browser, Publisher: Brave Software, Inc., the packaged release as the application version, and Category: Browsers. Add an approved Brave icon if your Software Center standards require one.
- Add a deployment type and choose the manually specified, script-based or generic installer option available in your console.
- Set the content location to the versioned source folder. Distribute only the files required by the deployment.
Configure a silent installation
The commonly used command for a standalone Brave installer is:

BraveBrowserStandaloneSilentSetup.exe --install --silent --system-level
Some releases use a different filename, such as brave_installer-x64.exe. Use the actual filename in your source folder. The --install, --silent, and --system-level switches are installer-specific examples reported in SCCM deployment coverage, not a permanent Brave enterprise contract. Validate them with the exact downloaded build in a clean Windows virtual machine and under the Local System account before production use. Brave’s public command-line reference primarily covers browser launch flags rather than a complete installer-switch matrix: Brave command-line flags.
If you use a batch wrapper, preserve the installer’s return code:
BraveBrowserStandaloneSilentSetup.exe --install --silent --system-level exit /b %ERRORLEVEL%
Do not change the double hyphens to typographic en or em dashes. If a successful installation returns a nonzero code, document the observed result and add it to the deployment type’s return-code table only after reproducing it.
Use a maintainable uninstall command
A hard-coded command such as the following is tied to one old version directory and will break after an update:

"%ProgramFiles%BraveSoftwareBrave-BrowserApplication104.1.42.97Installersetup.exe" --uninstall --system-level --force-uninstall
Use a PowerShell wrapper that discovers the current version directory instead. The following is a template that must be tested with your packaged release:
$ErrorActionPreference = 'Stop'
$braveRoot = Join-Path ${env:ProgramFiles} 'BraveSoftwareBrave-BrowserApplication'
$setup = Get-ChildItem -Path $braveRoot -Filter setup.exe -Recurse -File -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue |
Where-Object { $_.FullName -match '\Installer\setup.exe$' } |
Sort-Object FullName -Descending |
Select-Object -First 1
if (-not $setup) { exit 0 }
Get-Process brave -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | Stop-Process -Force
$p = Start-Process -FilePath $setup.FullName -ArgumentList '--uninstall','--system-level','--force-uninstall' -Wait -PassThru
exit $p.ExitCode
Stopping browser processes can discard unsaved work. Use a maintenance window, user notification, or an approved deferral policy rather than forcibly closing sessions by default. Uninstalling the application is not the same as deleting profiles. Brave warns that removing its data directories can erase bookmarks, settings, history, extensions, and other user data; follow the separate official uninstall guidance and make profile cleanup an explicit, opt-in operation.
Choose detection that survives updates
Option 1: Registry detection
After testing the current installer, configure a registry detection rule for the machine-level uninstall entry:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Hive | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE |
| Key | SOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallBraveSoftware Brave-Browser |
| Value | DisplayVersion |
| Data type and operator | Version; greater than or equal to |
| Comparison | The minimum Brave version approved for this application |
This is simple and allows a newer self-updated browser to satisfy the requirement. Confirm that the key exists for your installer, architecture, channel, and installation context. On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit and 64-bit registry views can differ; test both HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall and the Wow6432Node path. A stale uninstall entry can also produce a false positive.
Option 2: PowerShell detection
Use a custom script when devices contain mixed installation modes or registry behavior is inconsistent:
$paths = @(
"$env:ProgramFilesBraveSoftwareBrave-BrowserApplicationbrave.exe",
"${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}BraveSoftwareBrave-BrowserApplicationbrave.exe"
)
$minimumVersion = [version]'1.0.0.0'
foreach ($path in $paths) {
if (Test-Path $path) {
try { $version = [version](Get-Item $path).VersionInfo.ProductVersion } catch { continue }
if ($version -ge $minimumVersion) {
Write-Output "Installed: $version"
exit 0
}
}
}
exit 1
Change 1.0.0.0 to the minimum approved version for your package and verify that the selected Brave build returns a parseable product version. Configuration Manager runs PowerShell detection with -NoProfile and documents a 32 KB maximum script size. A file-based script detects machine paths; it does not automatically treat a per-user installation as compliant.
Decide explicitly whether per-user Brave counts as acceptable. A user-installed copy may live under the profile and will not satisfy a machine-level HKLM rule. You can install the system copy alongside it, remove the user copy under a separately approved process, or report it as a compliance exception.
Set user-experience and context options
For a device-targeted deployment, configure:
- Installation behavior: Install for system.
- Logon requirement: Whether or not a user is logged on.
- Installation program visibility: Hidden, unless your support policy requires visible progress.
Test whether the installer succeeds while brave.exe is running. If process closure is required, coordinate it with maintenance windows and notifications. A quick check is:

Distribute and deploy to a pilot
- Complete the deployment type and distribute its content to the required distribution points or distribution point groups.
- Confirm that the pilot devices are in the intended device collection and that their boundary groups can locate the content.
- Deploy the application as Available for Software Center testing, or as Required when enforcement is intended.
- Refresh machine policy on a pilot client and verify that the application appears or is scheduled as expected.
- After successful pilot results, deploy to the production collection with an appropriate maintenance-window and notification policy.
Test at least a clean device, a device with an older Brave version, one with a newer version, a per-user installation, Brave running during deployment, an offline or proxy-restricted client, and Local System execution. Validate installation, detection, repair behavior, and uninstall before broad rollout.

Installation succeeds but detection fails
Check for per-user installation, 32-bit versus 64-bit registry redirection, an unexpected DisplayVersion format, and a minimum version that is newer than the installed release. Confirm that the detection script is running under the expected architecture.
Uninstall fails after an update
Inspect the current version directory for Installersetup.exe, confirm that browser processes are closed, run the wrapper in the intended system context, and verify that it returns the setup program’s actual exit code. Do not substitute profile deletion for application removal.
Plan updates, supersedence, and rollback
Allow Brave to self-update
This reduces repackaging effort and can deliver security fixes sooner, but versions become less deterministic and updates may occur outside maintenance windows. Use minimum-version detection and maintain a validation process for new Brave releases.
Repackage each approved release
Create a versioned source folder and application revision for each tested release, validate its signature and behavior, redistribute content, and deploy through pilot before production. This provides stronger change control but requires recurring operational work.

Use supersedence carefully
ConfigMgr application supersedence can model replacement of an older approved package. Ensure the detection rule accepts a newer installed version, or an older deployment may attempt to reinstall over it. Test downgrade and rollback behavior separately; browser self-updaters can affect the result.
Installer and support references
Brave’s Windows download and installation instructions are at https://support.brave.app/hc/en-us/articles/360025390311-How-do-I-download-and-install-Brave. The official source repository is https://github.com/brave/brave-browser. The historical SCCM procedure that popularized the switches and registry example is https://www.prajwaldesai.com/deploy-brave-browser-using-sccm-configmgr/; treat its version and paths as historical, not current defaults.
The Bottom Line
For most organizations, the durable design is a stable, validated Brave installer packaged as a system-level ConfigMgr application, minimum-version detection, dynamic uninstall discovery, pilot deployment, and an explicit decision about whether Brave or ConfigMgr owns updates.
