To permanently close Grindr, delete your profile from inside the app—not by uninstalling the app. On Android, go to Profile → Settings → Deactivate → Delete Account; on iPhone, go to Profile → Settings → Delete Profile. Follow the prompts, verify your email if required, and confirm Delete Profile (you may need to type DELETE). Profile deletion cannot be undone, does not erase every record immediately, and does not cancel a paid subscription.
Before you delete: make the decision deliberate
Deleting a Grindr profile is permanent. Grindr says the old profile, chats and associated account data cannot be restored after deletion. You may create a new profile later with the same credentials, but the previous profile, conversations and other data will not return. If you might need a record of your account, export your data before starting the deletion process.

- Export first if necessary. A data report can include your profile information, preference choices, account settings, chats and images you uploaded or sent.
- Cancel any premium plan separately. Deleting the profile is not the same as cancelling billing through your app-store subscription settings.
- Keep access to your email. Accounts created with an email address and password may require email verification during deletion or data export.
- Understand the timing. Grindr’s current Privacy Policy says personal information is generally deleted within 28 days, with limited categories retained for specific purposes.
How do I delete my Grindr account on Android?
Use the installed Grindr app and complete every confirmation screen. Menu wording can change between app versions, so if a label differs slightly, look for the equivalent option in the account Settings screen.

- Tap the Settings gear in the upper-left corner.
- Tap Deactivate.
- Choose Delete Account, rather than an option that merely hides or pauses the profile.
- Select a reason for deletion. Grindr may also offer a field for optional feedback.
- If the account was created with an email address and password, complete the requested email verification.
- Tap Delete Profile and complete any final confirmation. The app may ask you to type DELETE before it accepts the request.
Wait for the confirmation to finish before closing the app. After the request is accepted, the profile should no longer be visible to other Grindr users, but backend deletion follows the timetable and exceptions in the Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my Grindr profile on iPhone?
- Open Grindr and tap your Profile picture or profile control in the upper-left corner.
- Tap the Settings gear at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of Settings and tap Delete Profile.
- Choose a deletion reason if prompted. Feedback is optional.
- Verify your email if the account uses email and password and Grindr requests verification.
- Tap Delete Profile again. If the app displays a typed confirmation, enter DELETE exactly as requested.
Do not rely on removing the iPhone app as a substitute for these steps. The profile remains an account on Grindr’s systems until you submit the in-app deletion request or use an available privacy-request route.
What exactly happens when the profile is deleted?
Grindr’s account-deletion guidance says that, when you decide to delete your account, your personal information will be removed from Grindr’s systems in accordance with its Privacy Policy. That wording does not mean that every copy disappears at the instant you tap the button.

The Privacy Policy used for these timeframes was last updated July 6, 2026. Grindr can change its retention language, so review the current policy when your request is especially sensitive or time-critical.

No. Uninstalling only removes the application from your phone. It does not submit an account-deletion request or remove server-held information. Messages, media, profile settings, favorites and blocks can remain associated with the account while it still exists.

If your goal is a complete exit, perform both separate actions: cancel the subscription through the provider that bills you, then delete the profile in Grindr. If you only want a break, uninstalling or hiding the app is less destructive than deleting the account.
Will deleting my Grindr account cancel a premium subscription?
No. Grindr explicitly treats account deletion and subscription cancellation as separate actions. A subscription purchased through an app store must be managed in that store’s subscription settings; a subscription purchased through another billing route must be cancelled through that route. Deleting the profile does not guarantee that a renewal will stop.
Check the subscription’s billing account for a cancellation confirmation and retain it. The exact menu and refund rules depend on the provider and purchase channel, so use the subscription-management screen associated with your payment rather than assuming profile deletion changed the billing status.

Should I download my data before deleting the account?
If you need a copy for personal records, a dispute, safety documentation or another legitimate purpose, request the export before deleting the profile. The export process has a separate timetable and may be harder to complete after the account is gone.

Request an export in the app
- Open your profile image or profile control.
- Choose Settings.
- Scroll to Download My Data under Security and Privacy.
- Authenticate when Grindr asks you to do so.
- Choose the email address where you want the report delivered.
- Verify that email address and submit the request.
What the report contains
Grindr says the report can include chats, images uploaded to your profile or sent in chat, profile information, preference choices and other account settings. It separates information stored on your device from information stored on Grindr’s servers.
- The export includes messages and media you sent, not material you received from other users.
- Grindr says the previous year of full chat history is accessible in the app.
- The server-side portion arrives through an expiring secure email link with a unique access code. Download it promptly and store it securely.
- Some device-only information—such as certain profile notes, filters and settings—may not be available to support if you cannot submit the in-app request.
How long does a data export take?
The first part of the report downloads to the device when submitted. The server-side portion typically takes a few days and, according to Grindr’s Help Center, should not take longer than 15–30 days. If it has not arrived after one week, Grindr advises resubmitting the request or contacting support. An export can therefore delay your deletion plan if you need to inspect the report first.
How do I request deletion of personal data outside the app?
Grindr’s Privacy Policy identifies deletion as a right that may be available under the law in your jurisdiction. The policy describes two practical routes: delete the profile while logged in, or submit a privacy request. Logging in is the easiest way for Grindr to validate that you own the account. A request made while you are signed out may require additional identity information.
Use Grindr’s privacy-request route
Follow the privacy-request instructions in Grindr’s current Privacy Policy and provide enough information for the company to locate and verify the account. The policy lists [email protected] as a contact route. Do not send unnecessary sensitive documents by ordinary email; provide only what the verification process requests and confirm that you are using the correct account email.

If you are in the EU or EEA
Users in the European Union and European Economic Area can exercise GDPR rights through Grindr’s designated request route. State that you are requesting erasure under the GDPR, identify the account, and complete any identity verification required. Local law can affect the scope, exceptions and response process, so an erasure request is not a promise that every record will be removed immediately or without lawful retention.
If you are banned or cannot access the request screen
Grindr says to contact support when a ban or technical problem prevents an in-app request. After verifying your identity, support can send a report of information held on its servers. It cannot include information stored only on your device, including some profile notes, filters and settings. Explain whether you are asking for a data copy, account deletion, or both; those are different requests.

Grindr also says accounts with no login activity for two years are automatically deleted. That inactivity rule is not a substitute for an immediate deletion request: if you want the account closed now, use the in-app or privacy-request process.
Can I recover a deleted Grindr account?
No. Grindr says a deleted profile cannot be reinstated. You can create a new profile with the same credentials, but the old data and chats will not be available. Treat the final confirmation as irreversible: save any export you need, record subscription-cancellation details, and resolve any account-security issue before tapping the deletion control.
Troubleshooting when deletion does not work
The menu label is different
App labels can vary as Grindr releases updates. On Android, look under your profile’s Settings for Deactivate and then an account-deletion choice. On iPhone, scroll to the bottom of Settings for Delete Profile. Use Grindr’s live Help Center if the installed version no longer matches these paths.
The app asks for email verification
Check the inbox for the account email, including spam and filtered folders. Complete verification from the same account session. If you no longer control that address, use the privacy-request or support route and expect additional identity checks.
The confirmation button is unavailable
Complete the required reason, authentication and typed confirmation exactly as shown. A connection interruption can leave the request incomplete; reopen the app, sign in again and check whether the profile is still active before resubmitting. Avoid repeatedly submitting requests if you cannot tell which one succeeded.
You cannot sign in or have been banned
Contact Grindr support and explain that you need either account deletion, a data copy, or both. Provide the account identifier requested for verification. Support may be able to provide server-held data, but it cannot reconstruct device-only notes, filters or settings.
You deleted the app but still receive billing or account activity
Uninstallation does not close the account. Reinstall or use an available account-access route to submit profile deletion, and separately cancel the subscription with the billing provider. Keep confirmation emails or screenshots for your records.
A safe order for closing your account
- Decide whether you need a data copy, and request Download My Data if you do.
- Wait for the server-side report or contact support if it has not arrived after a week; allow up to 15–30 days for the stated maximum processing window.
- Cancel any premium subscription through the provider that bills you.
- Delete the profile using the Android or iPhone steps above.
- Save the deletion confirmation and note the date so you can measure the 28-day general-deletion period.
- If information remains after the stated period, or you cannot use the app, submit a privacy request through Grindr’s policy route or [email protected].
This sequence preserves information before it becomes inaccessible, prevents an unwanted renewal, and leaves a clear record of the account-deletion request.
