There is no single switch that erases every voice-assistant recording. Delete each service’s history separately: use More > Alexa Privacy > Review Alexa History for Alexa, Google Account > Data & privacy > Web & App Activity > Manage activity for account-saved Google Assistant audio, and System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri (or Siri) > Delete Siri & Dictation History on a Mac.
Those controls have different scopes. Some remove audio and transcripts together; others also expose typed requests or broader activity. Turning off future voice-and-audio saving or changing an audio-sharing preference does not, by itself, remove recordings already stored. Follow the platform-specific procedure below and read the stated limits before assuming a complete erasure.

What each deletion control actually covers
Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri do not use one shared history. Each account or device has its own control, and deleting one service’s history has no effect on the other two. “Recording” can also mean several different records: an audio file, a transcript, a typed request, the action an assistant performed, or activity retained for personalization.

Delete Alexa voice recordings, transcripts, and typed requests
Open Alexa’s privacy history
- Open the Alexa mobile app.
- Tap More.
- Choose Alexa Privacy.
- Open Review Alexa History.
- Filter or browse the period and device you need, select individual entries or the available range, and use the delete command shown on screen.
Amazon also provides the account-level privacy page at amazon.com/alexaprivacysettings. Sign in to the account that owns the Alexa devices before reviewing history. If the account uses more than one Amazon marketplace, Amazon says history must be deleted separately for each marketplace; deleting a history view in one marketplace does not automatically process another.
What Alexa lets you review
Amazon says customers can review and delete three related categories from the Alexa history controls: voice recordings, the text transcripts generated from those recordings, and typed requests sent to Alexa. These are not interchangeable. Removing an audio item does not mean that every record of the resulting shopping order, reminder, or smart-home action disappears.
To reduce future storage, Alexa’s privacy controls offer automatic deletion after 3 months or 18 months, and a choice not to save voice recordings. These are ongoing account settings, not a substitute for clearing the history that is already listed. If you choose not to save voice recordings, Amazon says existing recordings are automatically deleted after processing. In that configuration, transcripts and typed requests are retained for 30 days after the last interaction in a chat before automatic deletion; you can delete those text items sooner from the history view.

Understand the deletion process and its boundaries
Deletion is not necessarily instantaneous. Amazon states: “When you request deletion, we begin the process of securely deleting your data from Amazon’s cloud storage systems.” During that processing period, the requested data may still be used for personalization. Wait for the request to finish before treating the item as removed, and avoid using a remaining history entry as proof that the request failed until the service has had time to process it.
Amazon’s Alexa and Alexa Device FAQs also identify records that may not be removed by deleting the listed Alexa history. Examples include records of actions Alexa took, shopping or reminder information, attachments, information shared with a skill developer, data stored outside Amazon’s cloud, and de-identified data. A deletion can affect features such as Voice ID. Those qualifications mean the history control is a way to remove the categories shown there, not a promise that every downstream copy or consequence is erased.
If Alexa history is missing or still appears
- Check that you are signed into the Amazon account and marketplace associated with the device.
- Review the date and device filters; an entry outside the selected range can make a deletion seem incomplete.
- Refresh the app or revisit the web privacy page after processing time has passed.
- If a transcript or typed request remains, select that text record separately; deleting an audio item does not always select related text automatically.
- Expect Voice ID or other personalized features to change after deletion and be prepared to configure them again.
Delete Google Assistant audio recordings and activity
Find recordings in Web & App Activity
- Sign in to the Google Account used by Assistant.
- Open Data & privacy.
- Under history settings, select Web & App Activity.
- Choose Manage activity.
- Review the timeline. An entry with an audio icon includes a saved recording; open its details to play it and use the delete control for that entry or the available date range.
Google’s instructions are in Manage audio recordings in your Web & App Activity. The account activity page can also be used to view or delete Assistant activity more broadly. If you use several Google Accounts, repeat the review in each account that has been active on the device.

Turn off “Include voice and audio activity” without confusing it with deletion
The setting named Include voice and audio activity is off unless you enable it. When enabled, eligible Assistant voice inputs can be saved to the Google Account and used under the account’s activity controls. Turning it off stops future voice inputs from being saved to that account under this setting, but it does not erase recordings already in the history. Google’s wording is explicit: “If you turn this voice and audio activity setting off, previously saved audio is not deleted.” Delete existing entries first, then change the setting if you do not want new account-saved recordings.
Use auto-delete or Guest Mode for future activity
Google Assistant’s data controls describe automatic deletion choices after 3 months or 18 months. Auto-delete is a recurring retention rule, so it does not instantly clear every existing item unless the item has reached the selected age. Review the confirmation screen carefully when changing the period.
Guest Mode is a different approach for supported Assistant experiences. Google says activity used in Guest Mode is not saved to the account or used to personalize the experience. It is intended for future interactions; it is not a command to erase the account’s existing Web & App Activity.

Why Google history may not represent every copy
Google’s audio help page warns that recordings can be saved in other places depending on your settings. It specifically names other Google services and on-device Voice Match or audio-personalization data as outside the effect of the Web & App Activity voice-and-audio setting. Therefore, deleting an audio-icon entry removes that account-history item, but you should not describe it as wiping every audio copy from every Google product or device.
- If no audio icon appears, the entry may contain a transcript or activity record without a playable recording.
- If an old recording remains after you turned off voice-and-audio activity, that is expected; use Manage activity to delete it.
- If activity from another device is present, check which account was active on that device before deleting a range.
- Google notes that some Web & App Activity settings are being updated, so the exact labels or placement may differ from the current help-page screenshots.
Delete Siri and Dictation history on a Mac
Use the Mac deletion command
- Connect the Mac to the internet.
- Open System Settings.
- Select Apple Intelligence & Siri. On some Mac versions the panel is labeled simply Siri.
- Click Delete Siri & Dictation History.
- Confirm with Delete.
Apple documents this route in Delete Siri and Dictation history on Mac. The guide says the command deletes request history—audio recordings and transcripts—associated with a random identifier and less than six months old. That eligibility description belongs to the cited Mac procedure. Do not silently apply the same six-month scope or identical menu path to an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or other device.
Do not confuse deletion with “Improve Siri & Dictation”
Apple describes Improve Siri & Dictation as optional. When it is enabled, Apple may store and review samples of Siri, Dictation, and Translate interactions, including audio, transcripts, and related request data. The preference is changed through device-specific Analytics & Improvements or privacy settings, and the exact route varies by device.
Deleting the Mac history does not change that preference. Apple states: “Deleting Siri and Dictation history doesn’t change the choice you made about sharing audio recordings.” If you no longer want to share future samples, change the improvement or audio-sharing choice separately after using the deletion command. Changing that preference alone should not be presented as deletion of earlier history.
Mac-specific troubleshooting
- Install available macOS updates if the Siri panel or command is absent; Apple’s labels can differ by release.
- Make sure the Mac is online, because Apple’s procedure requires an internet connection.
- If the command reports no eligible history, the account may have no request history within the stated less-than-six-month window.
- Check other Apple devices individually rather than assuming the Mac command is a universal device-wide wipe.
- Review the separate Analytics & Improvements or privacy setting if your goal is to stop future sample sharing.
Audio, transcripts, typed requests, and actions are different records
Deleting an assistant’s visible history does not make every related event disappear. An audio recording is the captured sound. A transcript is text derived from it. A typed request may never have had audio at all. The assistant can also retain an event showing that it set a timer, placed an order, sent a message, or received an attachment. These categories can have different retention rules and owners.

A practical deletion order for shared or multi-device households
- Inventory accounts and devices. List every Amazon marketplace, Google Account, Mac, phone, tablet, and shared speaker that may have handled the request.
- Delete the existing history first. Use Alexa Privacy, Google Web & App Activity, and the Mac Siri deletion command rather than relying on a future-saving switch.
- Set future retention. Choose Alexa’s no-save option or 3/18-month automatic deletion, Google’s 3/18-month auto-delete or Guest Mode, and Apple’s separate improvement or audio-sharing preference as appropriate.
- Check adjacent records. Look for typed requests, transcripts, orders, reminders, attachments, skill interactions, or device-personalization data that the primary history view does not cover.
- Allow processing time and verify. Reopen each history view after the platform has processed the request; an immediate refresh is not proof that all deletion work is complete.
Limits you should state accurately
None of these procedures supports an absolute claim that every copy everywhere has been erased. Amazon describes a secure-deletion process that can take time and lists several related records outside the Alexa history control. Google warns that other services and on-device personalization may hold audio outside Web & App Activity. Apple’s cited command is a Mac procedure limited to request history associated with a random identifier and less than six months old, while the audio-sharing choice is separate.
