Samsung Gallery no longer syncs new photos to OneDrive through Gallery Sync: Samsung US says the service ended on September 30, 2026. Photos and videos synced before then remain in the linked OneDrive account. To clean up, first decide whether you want to remove a cloud copy from OneDrive, a local item from Samsung Gallery, or both—those are separate actions with separate Recycle bins.
What “Samsung Cloud” means for Gallery photos now
Older instructions may refer to Samsung Cloud or Gallery Sync, but Samsung US’s current guidance concerns photos previously synced with Microsoft OneDrive. Samsung states, “The Gallery Sync with OneDrive service ended on September 30, 2026.” Previously synced media remains in OneDrive; new Gallery photos will not sync through that feature. Samsung’s current service-status guidance explains the change.

Before deleting anything, identify which copy you are looking at. A photo can be stored in OneDrive, on your phone and visible in Gallery, or in both places. Removing one copy should not be treated as a command to remove the other.
Choose the copy you want to remove

The retention periods above come from different Samsung regional support pages and apply to different bins. They are not one universal Samsung cleanup window. App labels and menu locations can also vary by Galaxy model and software version.

Keep a copy before deleting from OneDrive
If you may want the photo later, download it from OneDrive before removing it. Samsung’s US instructions describe selecting the media in OneDrive and choosing Download; the exact control or location may differ by app version and where the file is stored. See Samsung’s download instructions for previously synced media.
Make sure you are signed in to the Microsoft account historically linked to Gallery. Samsung’s general OneDrive and Gallery guidance describes the former arrangement with a personal OneDrive account and access from other devices signed into that account. Use the current service-status information for what works now.

Delete previously synced Gallery photos from OneDrive
- Open OneDrive and sign in to the Microsoft account that contains the legacy Gallery media.
- Find the Gallery photos or videos you want to remove, then select the item or items.
- Tap Delete and confirm the deletion.
This deletes the selected cloud files from OneDrive; it does not restart Gallery Sync or stop future syncing, because that service has ended. Samsung US documents these steps in its instructions for deleting previously synced photos.

Samsung US says deleted Gallery photos and videos remain in the OneDrive Recycle bin for 93 days. To restore an item, open OneDrive, go to the profile and open Recycle bin, select the file, then choose Restore. Recovery depends on the item still being in the bin and access to the account. The 93-day period is the figure in Samsung US’s guidance, not a guarantee for every region or account type. Samsung’s OneDrive deletion and recovery instructions include the steps.

Delete a local photo from Samsung Gallery
- Open Gallery and select the image or video stored on your device.
- Choose Delete and confirm moving it to the Recycle bin.
- To recover it before permanent deletion, open Gallery > Menu > Recycle bin, select the item and restore it.
Samsung Canada says local Gallery deletions remain in the Gallery Recycle bin for 30 days, after which they are permanently deleted; its guidance also describes deleting items permanently from that bin. Samsung’s Japan guidance, updated October 1, 2026, discusses linking Gallery with Google Photos after OneDrive Gallery Sync ended and describes deletion propagation and trash behavior for that regional setup. Those replacement-service steps and deletion effects should not be assumed to apply in the United States or elsewhere. Check the Samsung support page for your country and the menus on your specific device before linking a different cloud service or deleting synced media.
