Steps to release one Pokémon on iPhone
The official Pokémon Support pages we reviewed don’t document this control sequence. The steps below come from community reports dating to 2020, so button names or placement may have changed. Read each screen before you confirm.

- Open Pokémon HOME on your iPhone and go to the Pokémon (Box) view.
- Select the Pokémon you want to remove. Community reports describe pressing and holding it to start selecting.
- Open the three-dot menu. Reports say it offers an option to release the selected Pokémon.
- Check that only the intended Pokémon is selected. Then read the confirmation prompt and confirm.
Source: community reports are unofficial, so treat them as a guide rather than a guarantee.

Don’t use account deletion for a single Pokémon
Pokémon Support says deleting your account permanently removes all account data, including every Pokémon in your Boxes, and it can’t be undone. It is not a way to clean up one Pokémon.

Trading instead of releasing
If you want the Pokémon to go to someone else, use one of the mobile trade features listed in Pokémon Support. Releasing only removes it.

If your iPhone app and Switch app use the same Nintendo Account, they access the same Boxes. Pokémon Support notes the account must be linked correctly at setup. Releasing a Pokémon on the iPhone will therefore likely affect what you see on Switch. We haven’t confirmed this in official documentation.
