“Delete a Google Family Link account” can mean deleting a child’s Google Account, removing it from one device, stopping supervision, or deleting the family group. These actions are not interchangeable. If you want to permanently delete the child’s account, first check that you’re eligible and remove it from any Android device or Chromebook where it’s signed in; deleting it first can lock the device and may require a factory reset. Google’s deletion instructions explain the requirements and consequences.
Choose what you want to remove
| Goal | What changes | Who can do it |
|---|---|---|
| Delete the child’s Google Account | Deletes the account and its data, and removes access to Google services and account-linked purchases. | A parent can use Family Link if they created the account and the child is below the applicable age threshold. An older child can delete their own account. |
| Remove the account from one device | Removes account-related information from that device only. The Google Account and supervision on other devices remain. | Use the device-removal process for the Android device or Chromebook. |
| Stop supervision | Keeps the Google Account but ends parental supervision when age and approval requirements are met. | Available once the child reaches the age to manage their account in their country; a child under 18 needs parent approval, according to Google’s age-transition guidance. |
| Delete the family group | Ends the family group and can affect shared services and content. It does not, by itself, delete every member’s Google Account. | The family manager must meet Google’s requirements for supervised members. |
Google’s rules and available steps vary with the child’s age and country. Review its guidance for managing supervision before choosing an option.

Delete a child’s Google Account through Family Link
A parent can delete the child’s account through Family Link only if the parent created it and the child is under 13 or the applicable age in their country. If the child is older than that threshold, Google says the parent cannot delete the account through this route; the child can delete their own account.

- Download any data the child wants to keep. Deletion removes account content such as email, files, calendars, and photos.
- Understand that the child will no longer be able to sign in to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Play, or other Google services with that account.
- Google Play content bought on the account and access to family subscriptions are also affected.
- Remove the account from any Android device or Chromebook where it is signed in before deleting it. Google warns that deleting first can lock the device and require a factory reset.
Google’s pages on deleting a child’s account and continuing to use an account under supervision describe account deletion and data consequences.

Deletion steps
- On each Android device or Chromebook where the child is signed in, remove the child’s account using the device’s account-removal controls. If the child is not signed in on an Android device or Chromebook, continue to the next step.
- Open the Family Link app on the parent’s device and select the child.
- Go to Controls → Account settings → Delete account.
- Follow the prompts to complete deletion. Google also provides these Family Link controls on a computer.
Remove the child’s account from one Android device or Chromebook
Use device removal if the goal is to let someone else use a device without the supervised account. This clears account-related information from that device, including email, contacts, device settings, and parent supervision settings. It does not delete the Google Account, and supervision remains for the account on other devices.
Follow Google’s instructions to remove a child’s account from a device. Google recommends factory-resetting the device after account removal to ensure app data is cleared. A factory reset is separate from deleting the Google Account.

Stop supervision while keeping the Google Account
Stopping supervision does not delete the account. Google says supervision can end once the child reaches the applicable age to manage their own Google Account; the threshold depends on the country. Google’s age-transition guidance says a child under 18 needs parent approval to stop supervision, and both parent and child receive notice when supervision ends. See Google’s guidance on adding or managing supervision.

Deleting a family group is a family-management action, not a shortcut for deleting a child’s Google Account. Google says a family manager may need to transfer supervision or delete an under-age supervised child’s account first, and stop supervision for an older supervised user. Ending the group can remove access to shared family services or content. Check Google’s requirements in Manage your family on Google before proceeding.
