You can customize an LG TV running webOS in three useful ways: rearrange the Home screen and its app cards, put picture and sound controls within quick reach, and choose whether the television opens Home or the last-used input. The exact menu names depend on the TV’s model year and webOS release, so identify those details before following a path.
These changes affect different parts of the experience. Card editing organizes what you see after Home opens, Quick Settings changes how quickly you reach viewing controls, and the startup setting determines what appears immediately after power-on.

Identify your LG TV’s model year and webOS version first
LG uses different menu structures across releases. A path that is correct for a 2023 television may not exist on a 2020 set, even when both are described as “webOS.” LG’s own support pages separate instructions by webOS version for app management and by release year for startup behavior.

- The 2023 webOS interface documented in LG SimRoom uses a Home-screen card editor opened with the remote’s Wheel (OK) button.
- Quick Settings options can differ by model or country.
- Power-on menu names change substantially between 2019, 2020, 2021–2022, 2023–2025, and 2026-and-later televisions.
- The Basic Home layout switch is documented specifically for 2020 televisions running webOS 5.0.
If a menu label in the instructions is missing, do not assume the feature is broken. Check the TV’s model information and select the matching webOS version in LG Support before using version-specific app instructions.

Way 1: Rearrange the Home screen, cards, and apps
The Home screen is made from cards and app entries. On the 2023 webOS interface described by LG SimRoom, you can move cards, remove some cards, and add cards that are available in the editor. This is the best route when you want a cleaner launch screen rather than a change to picture quality or startup behavior.
Move a Home-screen card on 2023 webOS
- Press the Home button and move the pointer or navigation focus to the card you want to reposition.
- Press and hold the remote’s Wheel (OK) button. The screen enters Edit Card List mode.
- Use the navigation wheel to move the card to the desired position.
- Press the Wheel (OK) button again to set the card in that position.
The card editor is intended for the Home-screen cards shown by the television, not as a universal permission to remove every item. LG notes that some cards cannot be removed.
Remove or add cards
In Edit Card List mode, LG’s guide shows an arrow above a card for removing cards that support removal. The editor also presents available cards in a list at the top; select a card from that list to add it. If an item has no remove control, it is a fixed part of that model’s interface.
Recommended Free Tools
Card availability can vary by model. A card that appears in an LG example may not be offered on your television, and a removed card may return after a software or service change if LG treats it as a required element.
Reorder or delete apps
LG’s app-management support covers changing app order and deleting apps, but the detailed button sequence is version-specific. Open LG Support’s app instructions, choose your television’s webOS version, and then follow the matching on-screen labels. Do not apply a webOS 22 or webOS 23 path to an older set simply because the app names look the same.
Before deleting an app, check whether it is a system component or a service you still use. Removing an app changes the Home-screen list but does not change external HDMI inputs, antenna channels, or the TV’s picture settings.
When this method is the right choice
- Use card editing when the problem is clutter or an inconvenient order on Home.
- Use app editing when a frequently used app is buried or an unused app is taking up space.
- Use neither method to change what appears immediately after pressing Power; that is controlled by the startup-screen setting described below.
Way 2: Customize Quick Settings and picture controls
Quick Settings is the fastest way to reach common viewing controls without opening every section of All Settings. LG describes it as a lightweight panel that can include Picture Mode, Sound Mode, Aspect Ratio, Sleep Timer, Parental Lock, and Advanced Settings. The configurable items differ depending on model or country, as LG USA Support stated on August 14, 2025.
Open and use Quick Settings
- Press the Settings button on the remote to open the Quick Settings panel.
- Select the control you need, such as Picture Mode, Sound Mode, Aspect Ratio, or Sleep Timer.
- Change the value, then return to viewing. For deeper controls, choose Advanced Settings from the panel.
The exact button icon and panel layout can vary by Magic Remote generation and TV software. If a control is absent, open All Settings and look for the corresponding category; some models expose fewer quick controls.
Choose a picture mode for the room and content
LG’s webOS 22 picture guide recommends selecting a mode according to your viewing environment, personal preference, and the type of video being watched. Room lighting, reflections from the screen, the television’s capabilities, the selected settings, and the video itself all affect the result. That is why no single mode or numeric setting is automatically best for every room.
For example, a bright room may need a mode that remains easy to see in natural or artificial light, while a dark room can make a less intense mode more comfortable. A film, sports broadcast, game, and standard television program may each benefit from different processing choices. Treat LG’s suggested modes and values for natural light, artificial light, and a dark room as starting guidance, not as a measured calibration for your specific panel.
Adjust the main picture controls
In the picture settings, LG’s guide identifies controls for aspect ratio, brightness, color, clarity, and reset options. Change one group of settings at a time and watch representative content before making another adjustment. This makes it easier to tell whether a change improved the image or merely made it brighter or sharper.
- Aspect Ratio: Use it when the image is stretched, cropped, or surrounded by unwanted borders. The correct choice depends on the source signal.
- Brightness: Adjust perceived light level for the room rather than copying a number from another television.
- Color: Change saturation carefully; excessive color can make skin tones and graphics look unnatural.
- Clarity: Use modest changes when edges look soft. Too much enhancement can introduce halos or emphasize compression noise.
- Reset: Return the current picture adjustments to their default values if experimentation makes the image worse.
Keep separate settings for different situations
If your TV offers separate settings by input or content type, use that flexibility instead of forcing one compromise setting. A console connected by HDMI, a streaming app, and a broadcast channel may not produce the same brightness or motion behavior. If the picture looks wrong only in one source, check that source’s mode and aspect ratio before changing the entire television.
Way 3: Choose what appears when the TV turns on
LG supports two useful startup destinations on compatible models: the Home screen or the last-used input. Choosing the last-used input is convenient when the television is mainly a monitor for a set-top box, console, or other HDMI device. Choosing Home is better when you normally launch built-in apps or want the TV’s dashboard immediately.
Use the path for your TV’s release year
| TV release year | Menu path | Setting name |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 and later | System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Power On Screen | Power On Screen |
| 2023–2025 | General → System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Power On Screen | Power On Screen |
| 2021–2022 | General → System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Home Auto Launch | Home Auto Launch |
| 2020 | General → Home Settings → Home Auto Launch | Home Auto Launch |
| 2019 | General → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Home Auto Launch | Home Auto Launch |
- Open the path that matches your TV’s release year.
- Choose the option for Home or the last-used input, where your model provides that choice.
- Power the television on with the remote and check the result.
LG notes that menu availability varies by model. Older sets may use Quick Start+ or Q Start+ in connection with the startup behavior; if your guide presents that requirement, enable the feature before testing. Startup behavior can also differ when you use the physical power button on the television instead of the remote, so test with the remote when verifying the setting.
Why the last-used input may not appear
The option is not universal across every webOS release or model. An older television may expose only Home Auto Launch, or it may place the control under a different Home Settings section. An external device that is powered off, slow to wake, or not detected can also make the result look different from the selected destination. Confirm the HDMI device is on and connected before treating the startup setting as failed.

Some 2020 LG televisions running webOS 5.0 include a Basic Home style that presents a narrower layout. The documented path is:
All Settings → General → Home Settings → Home Style → Basic Home
This is a model- and version-specific option, not a universal switch for every LG television. If Home Style or Basic Home is missing, your set may use another interface or may not support that layout.
Which customization should you use?
| Your goal | Use | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Put favorite cards or apps first | Home-screen card and app editing | Some cards cannot be removed; app steps vary by webOS version. |
| Reach picture, sound, timer, or lock controls quickly | Quick Settings | Available controls differ by model or country. |
| Improve the image for a room or type of video | Picture Mode and Advanced Settings | No single mode or number suits every screen and room. |
| Open an app dashboard or HDMI source at power-on | Power On Screen or Home Auto Launch | Menu names and support vary by release year and model. |
| Reduce the Home layout on a supported older set | Basic Home on 2020 webOS 5.0 | Not a universal layout option. |
Troubleshooting common customization problems
The editor does not open
Make sure focus is on a Home-screen card and that you are holding the Wheel (OK) button rather than tapping it. The documented card editor applies to the 2023 interface; other releases may use different controls or may not expose the same card system.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A card cannot be deleted
That is expected for cards LG marks as fixed. Remove only items that display the editor’s remove arrow, then use the available-card list to add supported cards.
The startup choice appears ignored
Recheck the release-year path, enable Quick Start+ or Q Start+ if the older guide requires it, and power on with the remote. Verify that the external input is active when testing a last-used-input setting. Physical-button power-on can produce a different screen.
The picture looks worse after adjustment
Use the picture menu’s reset option, then make smaller changes while viewing the content and lighting conditions that matter to you. LG’s guidance treats its example values as general recommendations, not a calibration measurement for an individual television.
The remote is missing or damaged
LG’s customization instructions rely on the Magic Remote pointer and Wheel (OK) control. If you need a replacement, check Magic Remote compatibility against the exact TV model and webOS release before buying; the instructions do not establish one replacement model that works with every LG television.
