You can do this in the mobile app or on a computer. Google says you cannot edit an animation after creating it or change its playback speed, so check your selections first.
Create an animation on a phone or tablet
Google Photos groups Animation with its other creation tools. The result is a quick-moving GIF made from selected photos and videos.

Android
- Open the Google Photos app.
- At the bottom, tap Create.
- Choose Animation.
- Select the photos or videos to include.
- Tap Create at the top.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Google Photos.
- At the bottom, tap Create/Edit.
- Choose Animation.
- Select the photos or videos to include.
- Tap Create at the top.

Create an animation on a computer
- Go to photos.google.com.
- Hover over a photo and click its check mark.
- Select the other photos you want to include. Google’s described workflow allows up to 49 more, for 50 photos total.
- Click Create new at the top.
- Choose Animation.
Can you edit an animation after creating it?
No. Google’s help pages say animations cannot be edited on Android or iPhone and iPad. Google also says you cannot speed up or slow down an animation. The documented workflow does not provide an editor for changing the source selection in an existing animation.

If you chose the wrong photos or videos, create another animation with the intended selection. Review the source items before tapping or clicking Create; Google’s instructions do not describe a way to repair the saved animation.

Find animations you have created
In the mobile app
- Open Google Photos and tap Search.
- Tap the search bar and enter Animations.
- Select the Animations result.
On a computer
- Open Google Photos.
- Type Animations into the search box and search.
Animation is different from Photo to video
Animation combines selected photos or videos into a quick-moving GIF or slideshow. Photo to video is a separate tool that turns one still photo into a short video clip, with effects or prompts where available. It is not another name for an Animation. Google’s Photo to video help says that output is saved under the date it was created, rather than the source photo’s original date.
