The setting repeats playback; it will not fix a visible jump, silence, or audio click already in the video.
1. Make the end meet the beginning
A loop has one critical transition: the last frame and sound must lead naturally into the first. Choose an endpoint that suits the content, then check both picture and audio at the boundary. For continuous music or ambience, listen for changes in level, timing, or tone that make the restart obvious; for moving images, look for a jump in position, lighting, or motion.
Make those adjustments in your video editor. OBS repeats the file but does not crossfade, blend frames, or otherwise repair a poor edit.
2. Export and inspect the actual file
Export the finished video, then play the exported file through its ending and restart—not just the editor timeline. Frame timing or encoding can make a transition behave differently after export. Review the boundary more than once, with sound, before setting up the live stream.

3. Set up looping in OBS Studio
Loop one video file
- Open the OBS scene you want to stream.
- In the Sources dock, select + and add Media Source.
- Choose the local video file.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the source settings.
- Start playback in OBS and watch and listen across the repeat point.
OBS documents support for formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM. Its Media Sources documentation describes Loop as the setting that determines whether a file plays again after playback completes.
Loop a sequence of files
If you need several videos to play in sequence, use OBS’s VLC Video source and its playlist loop option. VLC must be installed for that source. Check the transitions between files as well as the final-to-first transition in the playlist: looping the playlist does not smooth any of them.

4. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key provided for the event into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password; do not share or publish it.
- Use RTMPS ingest when available. YouTube recommends RTMPS for a secure connection.
- Before going live, confirm that the selected OBS scene contains the looped source and that its audio meters respond as expected.
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to stream. If you cannot start a broadcast, check channel eligibility and restrictions in YouTube Studio.
5. Choose encoder settings for your connection
Use settings appropriate to the resolution and frame rate you intend to send, and make sure your upload connection can sustain the total stream bitrate. YouTube’s live encoder settings recommend H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of 2 seconds, not exceeding 4 seconds. Its example H.264 bitrate recommendations include:

These are encoder recommendations, not guarantees of picture quality. YouTube’s guidance recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Choose a lower output profile if your connection cannot sustain the chosen settings reliably, and check YouTube’s official settings for other codecs or resolutions.
6. Preview and monitor the broadcast
Before starting the public stream, test with audio and motion similar to what you plan to broadcast. Check the Live Control Room preview, then monitor both stream health and audio/video quality while live. Verify that the event is reachable from your channel’s watch page and on mobile if those viewers matter to your audience. YouTube’s streaming tips also recommend testing before the event and monitoring the stream.

If you are recording a local backup, confirm the recording has started and that its file is growing. A healthy local loop does not prove that the internet connection or YouTube ingest is healthy.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams over 12 hours. Do not rely on a YouTube archive or unlimited rewind as the only record of a long broadcast; see YouTube’s live stream archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Common problems and fixes
- The picture jumps at the restart: The seam is in the edit, not the OBS loop setting. Adjust the ending or opening in your editor, export again, and review the boundary in the new file.
- There is a click, gap, or sudden volume change: Inspect the audio boundary in the editor and make the end and beginning connect more naturally. Check the exported file before streaming.
- The file plays once and stops: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a multi-file playlist, check the playlist loop option and confirm VLC is installed.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check the stream URL and key, OBS connection status, and channel eligibility. If you regenerated the key in YouTube, update the value in OBS.
- The stream buffers or loses health: Confirm the total bitrate fits your upload capacity with headroom. Reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if necessary, and test again.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: A stream over 12 hours may not be captured automatically. Keep and verify a local recording for important broadcasts.
