Create a plain-text FFconcat manifest that lists the music files in playback order, then pass it to FFmpeg’s concat demuxer. The manifest defines a finite sequence; it does not, by itself, make a stream repeat forever or provide monitoring and recovery. Those are separate parts of a 24/7 setup.
Create the FFconcat manifest
Make a text file with the header ffconcat version 1.0 as its exact first line. It must have no leading whitespace or byte-order mark (BOM). Put one file directive on each following line, with the path to a track:

file '/srv/music/track-003.flac'Save it as, for example, playlist.ffconcat. The order of the file lines is the playback order. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation describes the manifest syntax and supported directives.

For a manifest in the same directory as its media, simple relative paths with portable filenames let you keep FFmpeg’s default safe-path behavior. By default, the concat demuxer uses safe=1 and rejects paths it considers unsafe. Its documented safe-path form is relative, has no protocol syntax, and uses a limited portable character set.

The following command uses -safe 0 to allow paths that default safe mode may reject:
ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.ffconcat -map 0:a:0 -vn -c:a aac -b:a 128k output.aacThis is an illustrative command that writes a finite audio file, not a tested command or a complete live-stream configuration. Use -safe 0 only for a manifest you control; do not feed it a list containing uncontrolled filenames. If your manifest uses safe relative paths, omit -safe 0. Paths containing whitespace or special characters require correct quoting or escaping.

Add optional timing or trim directives only when needed
The manifest format also supports directives such as duration, inpoint, and outpoint. A duration directive can override duration information when a file’s reported duration is inaccurate. Trimming and timing changes affect transitions and timestamps, so validate them against the actual files and your local FFmpeg build rather than assuming the listed order alone guarantees gapless playback.

Check that the tracks can be concatenated
The concat demuxer virtually joins packet streams and adjusts timestamps so each input follows the previous one. The input files need matching streams, codecs, and time bases. Because timestamp adjustment depends on each file’s duration, incorrect duration metadata, truncated files, or streams with unequal lengths can introduce artifacts or gaps.

Before using a generated manifest on air, scan and sort only a controlled music directory, then validate the paths, ordering, durations, and playback transitions on the target system. The FFmpeg documentation explains the format and its constraints; it does not establish that a particular collection of tracks will play seamlessly.

An FFconcat file describes a finite ordered list. It does not loop that list indefinitely, keep an FFmpeg process alive, monitor stream health, or recover from failures. A continuous deployment needs a separately tested process manager or scheduler to restart or regenerate inputs, health monitoring, storage checks, logging, and a recovery plan. FFmpeg’s cited documentation does not prescribe one universal supervisor or 24/7 architecture.

Choose the right concatenation method
FFmpeg offers three distinct approaches. The best fit depends on source compatibility, whether you can accept re-encoding, and whether the media container supports file-level concatenation. The FFmpeg FAQ distinguishes them as follows:

Do not confuse an input manifest with HLS output
Your FFconcat manifest is an input instruction: it tells FFmpeg which source files to read. HLS is a separate output-packaging step. FFmpeg’s HLS documentation describes generating a client-facing playlist and media segments, with options for segment duration, playlist type, segment naming, and playlist window. Generating HLS assets does not itself provide an origin or hosting service to distribute them.
Clear music rights before launching an Indian music stream
FFmpeg’s ability to play or transmit a recording does not grant permission to use it. Licensing obligations depend on the actual sound recordings and underlying compositions, the territory, the platform, and the mode of communication. The sources cited here do not establish a definitive Indian licensing checklist, so do not assume that owning a file or having a consumer music subscription permits rebroadcast. Confirm the permissions for your specific use with rights holders or qualified counsel before going live.
