The encoder can run on your computer or in the cloud. A local setup needs a powered computer and stable internet connection; a cloud setup can keep broadcasting after your computer is off.
What a continuous cooking stream is
A continuous prerecorded stream is still a live broadcast: an encoder sends video and audio to YouTube, while the source material is a prepared set of cooking videos. It does not require a camera to be live. Viewers see the videos in the order you choose, so check that you have permission to broadcast every video and any music or other audio in it.

Before you set it up
- Confirm live-stream eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its minimum age for livestreaming is 16. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable access ahead of your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance and eligibility and policy information.
- Prepare authorized videos. Use cooking footage and music you own or have permission to broadcast. YouTube requires live-stream content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A continuous stream is not automatically eligible for monetization; monetization depends on YouTube Partner Program eligibility and applicable policies.
- Check your files. Keep resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate, and audio format consistent where practical. Watch for missing audio, black frames, long blank sections, or abrupt transitions. Play through the full playlist at least once before relying on it for a long broadcast. These are practical preparation steps, not a guarantee from YouTube.
- Choose where the encoder will run. Local software gives you direct control over scenes and live inputs, but your computer, power, network, and upload connection must stay available. A cloud service handles the ongoing stream remotely. Dedicated hardware is another option if you specifically need a standalone encoder with scheduled prerecorded-media support.
Choose a way to keep the stream running
For a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is the first cloud option to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports the quality you upload up to 4K at 60 fps for one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free.
| Option | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Creators who want uploaded videos to loop on YouTube without leaving a computer running. | It streams to YouTube only; the stream uses uploaded videos rather than a live camera feed. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots. |
| Local software encoder, such as OBS | Creators who want control over scenes, overlays, a camera, or microphone inputs. | The computer and its stable internet connection must remain on and available. |
| Other cloud services, such as Upstream or Gyre | Creators who want prerecorded video to keep streaming without a local encoding computer. | Check each provider’s current features, reliability, pricing, and partner-program status before choosing. YouTube lists these services in its verified encoder documentation. |
| Dedicated hardware, such as AJA HELO Plus | Creators who want a standalone encoder; YouTube’s documentation describes its PlayToStream function for scheduled prerecorded media. | It is specialized equipment, so compare its cost and workflow with software or a cloud service before buying. |
Create and start the YouTube live stream
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live. Create a stream in Live Control Room or schedule it for later. Enter an accurate title and description, choose the audience setting, and add a thumbnail.
- Copy the connection details. Get the stream URL and private stream key from YouTube’s stream setup. In your encoder, enter the URL and key where it asks for the server and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Load the cooking playlist. Add the files in the order you want viewers to see them. Check that the encoder is set to play the full list in sequence and, if desired, repeat it. Play representative sections with both speech and motion to check audio, picture, and transitions.
- Match stream settings to your connection. Select a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate your sustained upload speed can support. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance for format-specific recommendations; YouTube recommends a keyframe interval of 2 seconds. RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended secure extension of RTMP where supported. Do not assume a speed test’s brief peak is sustainable for a continuous broadcast.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube’s preview. Start sending the playlist. For a scheduled stream, wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room and select Go live when it is ready. Confirm YouTube receives both video and audio, then check stream health and watch for warnings or interruptions.
- Monitor and verify the playlist. Keep an eye on stream health after launch, and check each transition during the first complete playlist cycle. If you use a local encoder, make sure the computer will not sleep, restart, or lose power during the broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your cooking videos, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every quality up to 4K at 60 fps streams as uploaded at one price per slot, and StreamNeo can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; then the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. A slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists, and support from the StreamNeo team. The same features are included on every plan; only the duration changes. UPI and cards are accepted in India, and card checkout is available worldwide. Estimate upload time before sending a large video library. Check your video rights before broadcasting. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.

Plan for YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If having an automatic archive matters, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours and verify the archive after each one. Do not rely on a longer continuous broadcast to produce one complete automatic recording; check YouTube’s current behavior before depending on it.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no signal | The encoder is stopped, the stream URL or key is incorrect, or the upload connection is unavailable. | Confirm the encoder is running, recheck the URL and key in YouTube Studio, verify internet access, and look for an incoming preview. |
| Video arrives without audio | The file or encoder audio source may be silent, muted, or mapped incorrectly. | Play the source file locally, check encoder audio meters and mute settings, then verify audio in YouTube’s preview before going live. |
| Buffering, dropped frames, or unstable stream health | The selected bitrate may exceed sustainable upload capacity, or the local network may be inconsistent. | Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations, lower the bitrate or output resolution, and test over the connection you will use for the broadcast. |
| The playlist stops or has a bad transition | A file may be damaged, unsupported by the chosen workflow, or have an unexpected gap or format change. | Inspect the affected file, standardize formats where practical, and play the full sequence before restarting. |
| The broadcast ends when you leave | A local encoder depends on the computer, power, and network remaining active. | Prevent sleep and power interruptions, or use a cloud workflow that continues without the home computer. |
| A stream key may have been exposed | Someone else could use the key to send a broadcast to the channel. | Reset or replace the key in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key. |
Costs and expectations
A local software setup can avoid a cloud-service subscription, but it relies on your own computer, power, and connection staying available. Hardware adds an equipment purchase. Cloud providers set their own current plan terms and prices, so check them directly. Continuous streaming does not guarantee more discovery, viewers, revenue, or monetization approval.
