You can run a continuous video game soundtrack channel on YouTube with an encoder such as OBS, but the first step is not choosing software: it is securing written permission for every recording, composition, and visual asset you plan to broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the relevant owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID.
1. Get permission for the music and visuals
Make a track-by-track inventory of the recordings and compositions you want to use. Identify the relevant owners or administrators, then obtain written permission that expressly covers continuous, music-only live streaming on YouTube. A game’s general fan-content policy or the fact that gameplay streams are common does not establish that you may rebroadcast its soundtrack as a 24/7 radio feed.

Ask the rights holders or distributors to confirm the permission’s scope:
- Which recordings and compositions are covered, and for how long?
- Which territories are allowed, and may the stream be available worldwide?
- Is monetization permitted?
- Does the permission cover your static artwork, visualizer, or other imagery?
- May you retain or publish an archived replay (VOD)?
- Will the owner add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before you test?
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If a match is detected, it may replace the broadcast with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. YouTube warns that a stream can still be interrupted even when the creator has licensed the content if the channel is not on the owner’s allowlist: Copyright issues with live streams. Keep the permissions and rights-holder contact details available in case a claim occurs.
#1 Best Overall
Check the exact game and tracks rather than assuming the publisher controls every component. A game may include music licensed from outside artists. YouTube’s policy on game-content references addresses when original game soundtracks can be used as Content ID references; it is not a license for a third-party radio channel: Content ID reference eligibility.
YouTube for Artists likewise recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream: YouTube for Artists.

2. Enable live streaming and prepare the broadcast
Enable and verify the channel
Enable live streaming and complete any required account verification before planning a launch. YouTube for Artists advises first-time streamers to verify at least 24 hours before going live. Follow the current instructions in YouTube Help for live streaming; eligibility and interface details can change.

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder broadcast. Set the title, description, visibility, category, thumbnail, and audience declaration. An unlisted broadcast is suitable for a private technical test, but it does not replace obtaining rights and Content ID allowlisting.

Connect OBS with the stream URL and key
Install OBS Studio, which is free, or use another encoder. In OBS, select YouTube or YouTube RTMPS, or connect your YouTube account, then enter the server/stream URL and stream key supplied by YouTube. Use only the assets cleared for the broadcast in your OBS scene. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it or include it in screenshots. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance is at Set up your encoder for live streaming.
3. Test the full stream before announcing it
Start an unlisted test and check the feed both in Live Control Room and on a viewer device. YouTube for Artists recommends testing an unlisted stream before a high-production or high-investment event. Verify:

- Japanese language (other languages may be included)

- The preview shows the intended cleared artwork or visualizer.
- Audio is audible, at a steady level, and continuous between tracks.
- The encoder reports healthy stream status in Live Control Room.
- No desktop, game, notification, or other unintended audio is being captured.
- The stream can be watched on the devices your audience is likely to use.
- You know how to reconnect or restart after an encoder or network failure.
Do not promote the channel as a continuous service until the test has confirmed both the technical setup and the rights arrangements.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches4. Choose continuous broadcasting or shorter sessions
A “24/7” schedule is an operational goal, not a guarantee that one encoder connection will never fail. Keep the computer and network stable, monitor the stream, and decide who or what will detect an outage and restart the broadcast. A recovery procedure should be tested rather than assumed.
Best Value
OBS’s community guide describes scheduled streams with auto-stop disabled as one way to permit reconnection after a disconnect, while noting that YouTube may eventually end a broadcast after no content is sent for multiple hours. Because this is community guidance and platform behavior can change, verify the current workflow in a test channel: OBS guide to streaming to YouTube.
Plan the replay separately from the live feed. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. For a complete replay or dependable rewind, save a local recording and consider splitting programming into shorter sessions. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance and YouTube’s DVR guidance.
5. Keep the setup proportionate
The core workflow requires rights clearance, YouTube Live Control Room, and an encoder; OBS is free. YouTube says creators do not need expensive equipment to get started. Use equipment you already have if it meets your production needs, but do not buy a soundtrack, computer, capture card, audio interface, or hardware encoder on the assumption that it provides broadcast permission or is essential to this format.
