1. Plan the scene and clear every asset
Decide whether you want to film a real tent in rain or create a designed scene. A real recording can feel distinctive; a designed scene gives you control over lighting, framing and weather. Either way, plan the image and sound together: a close view of rain on tent fabric, for example, pairs naturally with gentle patter rather than a loud storm track.

Record your own footage and sound
When practical, capture your own video and rain ambience. Keep the original files and notes about who recorded them and when. Original capture makes ownership easier to explain, but it cannot guarantee protection from an erroneous copyright claim.

If you use third-party footage, sound effects or music, read the license rather than relying on labels such as “royalty-free.” Confirm that it covers YouTube live transmission, the relevant territory, commercial use if you intend to monetize, and an archived replay. Save a copy of the license and any permission correspondence.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube says a stream can be interrupted if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights owner about allowlisting before you go live, and do not assume that permission alone will override an automated match. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
2. Build a loop that can run continuously
Assemble the video and audio into a composition designed to repeat. The exact editing steps depend on your editor and source files, so check how that application handles loop points and audio fades. The important result is a transition that does not call attention to the restart.
Check the visual join
- Choose footage whose movement can plausibly continue across the loop point, such as steady rain on fabric or a fixed tent view.
- Review the ending followed by the beginning. Watch for a sudden camera jump, lighting change, exposure shift or visible reset in rain movement.
- If the footage does not join cleanly, use a gradual transition or choose a section with less noticeable movement rather than forcing an abrupt cut.
Check the audio join
- Listen through the end-to-start transition on headphones or speakers. The rain should not click, drop to silence or jump noticeably in volume.
- Use a short crossfade or select a more compatible loop point if the sound breaks at the seam.
- Keep the ambience comfortable for long listening. Avoid sudden thunder, sharp level changes or other sounds that conflict with the soft-rain premise.
Keep a high-quality master, the source media and the rights records together. A 24/7 broadcast depends on the finished media remaining available to the encoder or hosted service.

3. Choose how to keep the stream running
A local encoder gives you direct control over the media, scene and any overlays, but the computer, encoder and network connection must remain available throughout the broadcast. A hosted option can remove the need to leave your own computer running; check its loop controls, recovery behavior, storage, cost and monitoring features before relying on it.
Local encoder: control at your desk
Use this route if you want to manage the stream from your own computer and are comfortable keeping the machine and connection on. It is sensitive to power loss, a computer restart, encoder failure and internet interruption, so test your setup and have a way to notice when it stops.

4. Make your channel eligible and create the broadcast
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Check eligibility before planning a launch; first-time live access may not be immediate. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming for a prepared video-and-audio scene. See Get started with live streaming.
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create and then Go live to enter the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. Add a clear title and description that accurately describe the rain-on-tent ambience. Choose the audience setting and visibility you intend. Use a thumbnail that represents the actual scene.
- Choose encoder streaming. In the Live Control Room, create or select the stream for encoder software. YouTube provides the stream connection details there; keep the stream key private and enter it only in the encoder or authorized cloud service.
- Set the broadcast running. Confirm that the broadcast and incoming encoder feed are associated correctly in the Live Control Room. A broadcast is the viewer-facing event; a stream is the incoming audio/video feed. YouTube’s API documentation describes these as distinct resources and documents a 24/7 use case where a broadcast continues while another broadcast shares that stream: YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.
5. Configure the encoder and test before launch
YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS for encoder ingest. Its published encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and frame rates up to 60 fps. A two-second keyframe interval is recommended; do not exceed four seconds. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for current recommendations and any setting-specific details.

Choose stable output settings
Set the encoder to a resolution, frame rate and bitrate that your sustained upload connection can support reliably. The right bitrate depends on the selected output and actual connection; do not choose based only on a peak speed test. YouTube transcodes live streams for viewers, so your outgoing feed does not need to match every viewer’s device or connection.

Use the encoder’s supported video and audio settings, set the keyframe interval to two seconds where available, and verify the output resolution and frame rate before starting. A stable lower-bitrate feed is preferable to a higher setting that repeatedly drops frames or disconnects.
Test like the real broadcast
- Start a private or unlisted test broadcast if that fits your launch plan.
- Use the actual loop, representative rain sound, intended resolution and chosen bitrate. YouTube specifically recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
- Listen for clipping, silence, sudden level shifts and the loop seam. Watch for frozen frames, black frames, visible jumps and unexpected overlays.
- Check the Live Control Room’s stream health and read any warnings or review messages. Correct issues before making the stream public.
6. Keep the broadcast operational
With a local encoder, the computer, encoder process, source media and network connection all need to stay available. Keep the Live Control Room accessible so you can spot warnings or interruptions. If the feed stops, check whether the encoder is still running, whether the connection is stable, whether the correct stream key is in use and whether the source file is still accessible; then review YouTube’s stream-health message before restarting.
For a long-running broadcast, distinguish the YouTube broadcast from the incoming stream feed when diagnosing a problem. The YouTube Live Streaming API documentation describes them as separate resources and includes a use case for a 24/7 broadcast. That distinction can help when the video event exists but the encoder feed is not arriving.

7. Copyright and monetization are separate questions
Permission does not guarantee an uninterrupted live stream
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party-content matches. Even licensed audio or video can trigger an interruption unless the rights owner has allowlisted your channel in Content ID. Keep written permission, make sure it covers both live use and the archive, and seek allowlisting where needed. If a stream is interrupted or an archived replay receives a claim, follow the notice and the rights owner’s process; do not assume a “royalty-free” label resolves it. A repetitive loop does not guarantee Partner Program monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. The platform says monetized content should be original and authentic, not mass-produced, generic or repetitive. Reviewers may assess the channel overall, including its theme, recent and most-viewed videos, watch-time distribution, metadata and About section. A simple ambient loop therefore carries monetization risk, but the policy does not say every ambient stream is automatically ineligible. Treat approval as a channel-level review outcome, not an expected result. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
To make a channel more distinctive, consider original footage, layered or self-recorded sound, meaningful scene changes, or useful viewer features. Do not add superficial variations solely to imply originality; make choices that genuinely improve the experience.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not accept the stream key: Check that you copied the current key from the correct Live Control Room stream and pasted it into the intended encoder or service. Keep keys private; if exposed, replace or reset them in YouTube Studio.
- The feed disconnects or stream health shows warnings: Reduce the output bitrate or resolution, check sustained upload stability, and look for local network interruptions or encoder overload. Retest at the settings you will use live.
- The image freezes, drops frames or appears black: Confirm the source file is available and the encoder is still outputting. Check the encoder’s selected media, video output and resource use, then run a representative test.
- The audio clicks, cuts out or jumps in loudness: Revisit the audio loop point, use a crossfade, and check encoder audio input and levels. Listen to the full transition before relaunching.
- A licensed asset triggers a copyright interruption: Review YouTube’s notice, verify that the license covers live and archived use, and contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting. Permission by itself may not prevent automated interruption.
- The stream is live but viewers see the wrong event or no feed: Confirm that the incoming stream is connected to the intended broadcast in Live Control Room. Remember that the broadcast and stream feed are separate YouTube resources.
