You can keep recorded math lessons playing on YouTube Live by sending them through an encoder such as OBS Studio, with a media source set to loop or a playlist set to repeat. First verify the channel and livestream eligibility, choose the correct made-for-kids setting, and confirm you have rights to every element in the lessons. A local OBS setup requires the computer, power, network and encoder to keep working; YouTube does not promise that a 24/7 broadcast will run unattended without interruption.
Before you start
Gather the lesson files and decide whether you will play one video repeatedly or rotate through a playlist. Review each file from beginning to end where practical: check picture, sound, transitions and any opening or closing screens. Keep the original recordings independently of YouTube, especially if you need to retain the lessons for later use.

- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days, according to YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance.
- Use a computer that can stay powered on, an encoder such as OBS Studio, the source videos, and a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity.
- Decide whether the content is made for kids based on its actual intended audience and presentation. Educational content for young children is one consideration, but not every educational or family-friendly video automatically has the same designation.
- Make sure you have the necessary rights for the recordings and every included element, including music, illustrations, slides and third-party excerpts.
Set up the YouTube livestream
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create a livestream and set its title, description, visibility and audience designation. YouTube explains the audience setting and its made-for-kids considerations in its audience-setting guidance.
- Choose the encoder/streaming workflow and copy the stream key shown in Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Do not publish it or include it in a screen recording. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s live settings before using the encoder again. See YouTube’s stream-key instructions.
- Leave Live Control Room open so you can check its preview and stream health after OBS connects. You can configure the broadcast in advance and test it before making it public.
Configure OBS to loop the recorded lessons
Loop one lesson
- In OBS, add a scene for the broadcast. In the Sources panel select + and choose Media Source.
- Create a new source, select the lesson video file, and enable Loop. Confirm that the source is not set to stop when it becomes inactive if your scene may be switched away from and back.
- Check the video in the OBS preview and listen to the audio. Make sure the file’s dimensions and frame rate display as intended; avoid adding unnecessary filters or transformations that could crop or distort lesson content.
Loop a playlist
For multiple lessons, add a VLC video source and select the files in the sequence you want. Enable Loop Playlist in the source settings. OBS documents both the Media Source loop option and playlist looping through its VLC source in its media-source documentation. The feature determines playback order; it does not establish which order is pedagogically best.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesConnect OBS to YouTube
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and either connect the account or choose the stream-key option and paste the key from Live Control Room.
- Set the output to match the lesson files and your available upload capacity. YouTube’s encoder guidance includes recommended resolutions, frame rates and bitrate ranges; choose a supported configuration rather than raising bitrate beyond what your connection can sustain. For a mostly static lesson, a higher frame rate is not automatically better if the source itself was recorded at a lower rate. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
- Use a keyframe interval of 2 seconds where the encoder exposes that setting, as specified in YouTube’s encoder recommendations. Keep the stream format and audio settings within YouTube’s current recommendations.
- Click Start Streaming in OBS, then inspect the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Start the YouTube broadcast from the Live Control Room when the preview is ready.
Plan for upload capacity and test before going public
Measure the connection’s upload capacity, not only download speed. YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth 20% above the total bitrate of the stream; the extra capacity helps leave room for ordinary fluctuations, but it cannot guarantee an uninterrupted connection. If the connection is marginal, lower the stream bitrate or resolution until the feed is stable. YouTube’s guidance is at its live encoder settings page.

Before treating the stream as a dependable destination, create a private or unlisted test and follow YouTube’s live-streaming tips:
- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound and connection warnings.
- Open the watch page on the channel and check it on a mobile device as well as the computer running OBS.
- Play the recording back locally and inspect the saved file if you are recording an archive.
- Monitor audio and video after going live; a scene that looks correct in the OBS preview can still have a muted source or an issue visible only on the watch page.
A wired Ethernet connection is an optional way to connect the encoder computer. It may suit a fixed setup, but it is not a guarantee against internet or power outages.

Children’s audience settings and feature limits
YouTube requires creators to indicate whether their content is made for kids. Assess the actual intended audience and presentation rather than relying only on the fact that the lessons are educational or appropriate for families. YouTube says made-for-kids designation does not itself ensure that content will be included in the YouTube Kids app; details are in its audience-setting guidance.
When a livestream is designated made for kids, features including live chat, comments and notifications are restricted, along with other features listed by YouTube. Do not make chat interaction central to the viewing plan or assume personalized advertising will be available. Check YouTube’s current made-for-kids feature restrictions when configuring the broadcast.

Rights, copyright and lesson content
YouTube’s terms place responsibility for permissions on the person providing the live content. They state that the provider represents and warrants that they have the necessary rights to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. Review the applicable YouTube Terms of Service and confirm permissions for lesson recordings, music, images, worksheets, slides and any excerpts before streaming or archiving them. Also comply with applicable laws and YouTube’s Community Guidelines.
What a 24/7 setup does—and does not—guarantee
With local OBS, the video loops while the encoder computer, OBS, source files, power and network remain available. Any of those can fail, so this workflow is not an unattended uptime guarantee. YouTube recommends setting up in advance, checking the preview and monitoring stream quality; plan for someone to notice and respond if the broadcast stops.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
There is also an important replay limitation: YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A continuous 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a complete archive. Keep the original lesson files and make a separate recording or archive plan if replays matter. See YouTube’s livestream archiving guidance.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS connects, but YouTube does not show a preview | The stream key or selected service may be incorrect, or the encoder has not started sending. | Confirm the service and key in Settings > Stream, check that OBS says it is streaming, and inspect Live Control Room. Reset an exposed key before retrying. |
| The stream buffers, drops frames or disconnects | Available upload capacity may be too close to or below the stream bitrate, or the connection may be fluctuating. | Check upload bandwidth and OBS/Live Control Room status. Reduce bitrate or resolution to leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom; reconnect and verify the preview before going live again. |
| The lesson stops instead of repeating | The media source loop option may be off, or the playlist may not be set to loop. | For one file, open its Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a VLC playlist, enable Loop Playlist and confirm the correct files are selected. |
| The video plays but there is no sound | The source or OBS audio path may be muted or not reaching the stream. | Check the OBS audio mixer while the lesson plays, inspect the source’s audio settings, and verify sound on the Live Control Room preview or a private test watch page. |
| Chat, comments or notifications are unavailable | The stream may be designated made for kids, for which YouTube restricts these features. | Check the audience designation and YouTube’s current feature rules. Do not change the designation merely to enable a feature; use the accurate setting for the content. |
| A 24/7 broadcast is missing from archived videos | YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. | Keep lesson originals and record or preserve replays separately rather than relying on YouTube’s automatic archive for a continuous stream. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos, so you do not need to keep a home computer running. Upload the lesson video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It automatically attempts recovery if YouTube drops the stream. You are still responsible for selecting the correct children’s audience setting, confirming content rights and keeping a separate archive if you need one.
