You can use MusicBee to organize your local music, OBS Studio to play a media playlist and encode the stream, and YouTube Live to broadcast it. The chain is MusicBee playlist → media files loaded into OBS → YouTube stream key. One important limitation: the official documentation confirms OBS can loop a media playlist, but does not establish that a MusicBee playlist file can be loaded directly. Check the playlist export format and test it in OBS before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
What you need
- A Windows computer with the music files in your MusicBee playlist available locally. MusicBee is the library and player; OBS, not MusicBee, sends the encoded live stream to YouTube.
- OBS Studio and VLC installed. OBS’s VLC Video source uses VLC to play media files and playlists; on 64-bit OBS, the OBS documentation says to install 64-bit VLC.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, plus the YouTube server URL and stream key for the broadcast.
- Permission to broadcast every track in the playlist. Owning a file or having a consumer music subscription does not by itself establish live-streaming rights.
MusicBee’s official site lists playlist syncing, but the reviewed documentation does not confirm a specific playlist export path or direct compatibility with OBS’s VLC Video source. Treat the playlist handoff as a step to verify, not a guaranteed one-click integration.

Build and verify the playlist handoff
- In MusicBee, assemble the tracks and check that each referenced file is available on the computer that will run the stream. Missing or moved files can leave gaps in playback.
- Find the current MusicBee option for saving or exporting the playlist, and note its format and how it references media files. Do not assume a particular menu label or that the saved playlist will work unchanged in OBS.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and try loading the exported playlist. Confirm that the tracks appear and play in the intended order. If OBS cannot read it, use a playlist format accepted by the VLC-based source or another supported method of selecting the media files; verify playback before going live.
- Test the playlist through a complete track transition and confirm that the source continues at the end. OBS documents a Loop Playlist option, on by default, and Shuffle, off by default. Change those settings only if they match the listening experience you want.
Keep the media files and playlist accessible to the streaming computer. A playlist that points to files on a disconnected drive or another computer will not provide continuous playback.

Set up OBS for a YouTube radio stream
Create a scene and playlist source
- Open OBS and create a scene for the broadcast.
- Add a VLC Video source, select the verified playlist, and confirm that VLC is installed. Check the source’s looping behavior and whether shuffle is disabled or enabled as intended.
- Add a visual that you have permission to use, such as a suitable still image or animation. Check that the picture remains present while tracks change, and that the audio meter responds during playback.
- Listen to playback and check the start, transitions, and end-of-playlist loop. These are preflight checks, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming if you have not already done so. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so do this before the planned start.
- Create or select the live stream in YouTube Studio. Copy the stream server URL and stream key shown for that broadcast.
- In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it in a recording or screenshot. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the YouTube Studio preview and complete YouTube’s go-live flow. Confirm that the audio and visual are present before announcing the stream.
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists OBS as an encoder. The sources used here do not establish recommended bitrate, resolution, or keyframe values for this particular MusicBee workflow, so use the current YouTube and OBS settings guidance for your intended output rather than relying on a guessed preset.

Protect the stream from rights interruptions
YouTube states that all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. A detected match can trigger a placeholder warning, interrupt the stream, or terminate it; a copyright strike can also terminate a stream.
If you have licensed third-party music, YouTube says the rights owner must add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption on that basis. This applies even if the stream is restricted to territories where you hold rights. Confirm that your permission covers public live broadcasting on YouTube and arrange any required allowlisting with the rights owner before streaming. A personal music collection or paid consumer subscription is not proof of those rights.

Plan for 24/7 continuity and archives
What the local setup depends on
With OBS running locally, playback and encoding depend on the computer, its power, MusicBee/OBS media access, and its internet connection remaining available. Test how the stream behaves after a temporary network interruption or application restart before treating it as unattended. The workflow described here does not establish automatic recovery behavior.

Do not rely on a 24-hour stream as a complete archive
YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local recording backup, and warns that a stream over 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single continuous 24/7 broadcast is therefore not a dependable way to create a complete YouTube VOD. If an archive matters, record locally and/or plan separate shorter broadcasts, then verify the current archive options in YouTube Studio.

Troubleshoot common failures
