Before announcing an always-on stream, test what happens when the connection drops and decide how you will handle recordings: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived.
1. Make sure your channel can stream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. For a designed radio-style broadcast with a prepared visual and continuous audio/video feed, use encoder streaming rather than treating the channel as a playlist of ordinary uploads. YouTube lists concerts among common encoder use cases and supports encoder-based broadcasts. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and setup options.

Choose a format you can sustain: for example, original piano performances arranged into a playlist with a simple visual identity. Plan the music, artwork, stream description, and operating method before going live. A 24/7 promise is an operational commitment, not a YouTube feature or guarantee.
2. Clear the music and visuals
Use recordings and visual assets that you own or have permission to use for the specific ways you plan to broadcast and distribute them. YouTube’s livestream terms make the content provider responsible for all necessary rights worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Check the license for the actual uses
Before adding a track, confirm that its license covers livestreaming, the territories you intend to reach, archived videos or other recordings, looping, and monetization if you plan to seek it. A “royalty-free” label by itself does not establish that all of those uses are permitted. Keep copies of licenses and permissions so you can respond to a claim or question.
Account for Content ID
YouTube scans live streams for third-party material. If it detects material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. Even if you have a license, YouTube says you may need to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; without that step, a licensed stream can still be interrupted. Review YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright.
Do not assume that a track is safe merely because it is available online, credited in your description, or permitted for personal listening. Confirm permission for the channel and intended broadcast uses before putting it in a continuous stream.

3. Choose how to keep the broadcast running
The key choice is whether the stream depends on equipment you operate or runs through a hosted service. You control more of a local setup, but you also take responsibility for the computer, power, network, encoder, and recovery. A hosted service can keep uploaded video running from the cloud, but check that it supports your YouTube workflow and understand its price and recovery behavior.

4. Set up a continuous stream with OBS
OBS Studio is one computer-based route to YouTube. Its guide documents connecting an account and starting a broadcast through YouTube integration. The guide is dated 2015, so use current OBS and YouTube instructions for the exact interface and settings; do not treat any particular preset or computer specification as universal. - Prepare the media. Assemble the cleared piano recordings and visuals you plan to use. Test the playlist from beginning to end, including what happens at the end of the last item. Confirm that the full sequence is permitted for continuous looping.
- Prepare the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and choose encoder streaming. Follow the current YouTube prompts to connect OBS or obtain the stream credentials for your encoder workflow.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Use OBS’s current YouTube integration or the connection method shown in YouTube Studio. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel. Do not publish it in a description, screenshot, or shared document.
- Build the scene. Add the cleared visual and audio sources needed for the radio presentation. Check that the piano audio is audible and balanced, the image displays as intended, and the stream does not expose private desktop content or notifications.
- Run a private or unlisted test if available. Check the audio, video, stream status, and the YouTube viewing page from another device. Confirm that the playlist continues and that you know how to stop and restart the broadcast safely.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Start streaming in OBS and verify that YouTube reports the incoming feed. Keep a way to monitor the stream and respond to warnings, encoder failures, or copyright interruptions.
These sources do not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or hardware specification for every 24/7 piano channel. Select encoder settings appropriate to your actual media, output resolution, and connection, then validate them with a test broadcast rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all preset.

Plan for failure and recovery
A computer, encoder, power supply, internet connection, or media playlist can fail. Test recovery before promoting the channel as continuous: check that the source resumes as intended, know how to restart the broadcast, and monitor whether YouTube has accepted the feed after a reconnect. Keep media and account credentials secure. These are practical operating precautions, not a YouTube uptime guarantee.

YouTube says live streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed complete replay. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording backup if you need a copy. Review YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
If reliable replays matter, consider dividing the broadcast into planned sessions shorter than 12 hours and explaining the reset or transition to viewers. Keep a local recording backup for content you cannot afford to lose; verify that your recording setup has enough storage and that the files are usable before relying on it.

6. Set realistic monetization expectations
Monetization is not automatic for a live radio channel. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams. Its July 15, 2025 clarification renamed the repetitious-content policy as “inauthentic content” and says highly repetitive, mass-produced, or interchangeable material may not be eligible. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
A static image with a long loop is not, on the available policy information, an automatic rejection. But approval cannot be promised: make the channel’s creative contribution clear through original music, visual work, programming, or other meaningful variation, and avoid relying on interchangeable mass-produced uploads. Rights clearance and monetization eligibility are separate questions; having permission to use music does not by itself guarantee monetization.
