You can keep a meditation podcast live on YouTube by sending a prepared audio-and-visual feed through an encoder such as OBS, using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. For a do-it-yourself setup, the computer and internet connection must stay available, and you must monitor the broadcast. YouTube may not capture a stream that runs longer than 12 hours, so plan for local recordings and shorter sessions if a complete replay matters.
Before you start: enable live streaming and choose your format
Check that your channel is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do this ahead of your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Decide whether you want one scheduled event or a succession of shorter broadcasts. A scheduled event lets you prepare a watch page and promote it, but scheduling alone does not play content continuously or restart a disconnected encoder. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how to create or schedule a stream.
Set up the podcast feed and encoder
Prepare audio and visuals
Use your finished meditation episode or podcast audio and pair it with a static image or a gentle visual scene. An encoder sends the combined audio-and-video feed to YouTube. A microphone is only needed if you are recording new spoken audio; it is not required to stream an already-produced recording.

OBS is a free, open-source software option for streaming and recording, with scenes and audio mixing. It is not the only choice: YouTube supports software and hardware encoders, and says expensive equipment is not necessary to begin. OBS performance depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity; its system requirements page cautions that meeting baseline requirements does not guarantee a particular computer can stream or record successfully.
Create the stream in YouTube Studio and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, create a live stream or scheduled event. Set its title, description, thumbnail or visual, and privacy setting. If scheduling, share the watch page ahead of time if you want viewers to find it before the broadcast.
- Open the stream’s encoder settings in YouTube Studio and copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: it associates your encoder feed with your YouTube stream. Do not share it publicly.
- In OBS, add the prepared visual and audio source to a scene, then select the encoder and output settings your computer and connection can sustain. There is no universally safe resolution or bitrate for every computer and network; test at the settings you intend to use.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview before treating the stream as ready for viewers. Confirm that the watch page works and that audio is audible and clean.
- Make a local recording during the test and verify that the recording file is growing. YouTube recommends checking the preview, watch page, local archive file and ongoing audio/video quality in its streaming checklist.
Choose settings and test your connection
Your total outgoing stream bitrate must fit within your available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom and notes that upload speed can be lower than download speed; disruptions can interrupt a live stream. Treat that headroom as YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee that a connection will never fail. Its streaming tips are a useful checklist for testing the actual setup.

- Test with the resolution, frame rate and bitrate you plan to use for the broadcast.
- Check upload performance at the location and time you will stream, especially if other people or devices share the connection.
- Watch the encoder and YouTube preview for dropped frames, interruptions, distorted audio or a black image.
- Keep an eye on local recording growth and available disk space during long sessions.
Run it reliably and plan for YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
A live feed and its replay are different things: viewers may be able to watch a broadcast live even when YouTube does not preserve the full event as a replay. YouTube Help states, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.

If a complete replay is important, use sessions shorter than 12 hours and retain local recordings. The shorter-session approach trades an uninterrupted event for a better chance of an automatic YouTube archive; YouTube does not prescribe an ideal segment schedule. For a continuous channel, plan how you will end one session and start the next, and tell viewers what to expect on the watch page.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
DVR is separate from the replay archive. It lets viewers pause and resume in supported circumstances, but YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including streams longer than 12 hours. Do not promise that a viewer can rewind to the beginning of a 24/7 event; see YouTube’s DVR guidance.
For a long-running computer-based broadcast, keep the computer and network connection running, monitor stream health and audio/video quality, and maintain enough disk space for local backups. YouTube’s operational checklist recommends arranging the encoder ahead of time, starting it before the event, checking the preview and watch page, verifying local recording-file growth, and monitoring the feed. Scheduling the event does not provide automatic playback or restart service.

Check music, recording and artwork rights
You are responsible for having the rights needed to use everything in the live feed on Google services worldwide, including music rights, and for complying with applicable laws and YouTube guidelines. Review permissions for meditation music, sound baths, backing tracks, spoken material, artwork and reused podcast recordings. A purchase or license for use on another platform does not automatically establish permission for a YouTube livestream and its replay. See YouTube’s Terms of Service.

- Live streaming is not available: Confirm channel verification and check for live-streaming restrictions. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for enablement.
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that the encoder is running and that the server URL and stream key match the stream shown in YouTube Studio. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in Studio and update the encoder.
- The stream is unstable or drops: Check upload bandwidth and other network use, then test again at the intended bitrate. YouTube recommends upload headroom; a network interruption can break the stream.
- The preview has no sound or image: Verify the audio source and visual scene in the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview before relying on the public watch page.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: A broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording and use shorter sessions when an automatic replay matters.
- Viewers cannot rewind far enough: DVR can be limited or unavailable on very long streams. Do not treat DVR as a substitute for a saved replay.
- The computer struggles during streaming: Reduce the workload by testing less demanding output settings or a simpler scene. CPU demand varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity; baseline system requirements alone do not establish that a particular setup will work.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not leave a computer and home connection running, StreamNeo can keep uploaded video looping as a YouTube live stream. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo runs in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start your free day.
