A continuous broadcast also needs a plan for monitoring and restarting the feed. Devotional subject matter, instrumental-only music, attribution, or finding a track online does not by itself give you permission to stream it.
1. Clear the music and visuals before building the schedule
Check rights track by track, before you assemble a playlist or test the public broadcast. A recording can involve separate rights in the sound recording and in the musical work embodied in it. A traditional composition may still have a modern arrangement or recording with its own rights.

Make a rights log for every item
Record the composition and composer, arrangement, performers, sound-recording owner, and the person or organisation granting permission. Keep the written licence or permission and check that it covers each intended use:

- Live transmission on YouTube, including the territories and licence term.
- Commercial use, if you intend to monetise the channel or otherwise earn from it.
- Recording, archiving, and replaying the broadcast.
- Any visual elements, such as artwork, photographs, video, or an animated background.
- The relevant Content ID owner or distributor and how to contact them.
YouTube’s monetisation guidance says audio and visual material must be original or cleared for commercial use. A “royalty-free” or Creative Commons label is not enough unless the licence actually grants the rights your stream needs. Keep permission records accessible if you receive a claim or warning.

Ask rights owners about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube Help advises creators to ask the rights owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. Get that done before going live, and confirm which channel is being allowlisted. An archived stream can also receive a claim after the broadcast ends.
2. Understand the India-specific copyright issue
The Copyright Act, 1957 describes “communication to the public” broadly and addresses rights in both musical works and sound recordings, including communication to the public. The Act’s text includes an exception concerning communication of a work or sound recording in the course of a bona fide religious ceremony. That wording does not establish that an always-available devotional music channel is itself a religious ceremony or qualifies for the exception. Do not assume devotional music is free to stream.

India’s Copyright Office materials also describe a statutory licence route for broadcasting certain published literary and musical works and sound recordings, with notice and royalty provisions in related Rules. Whether and how that route applies to a particular YouTube stream, channel, or business model is a specific legal question; it is not an automatic YouTube music licence. Consult a qualified Indian copyright lawyer before relying on an exception or statutory route.
3. Check your channel’s live-streaming eligibility
- Verify the channel. YouTube requires a verified channel for live streaming.
- Check restrictions. YouTube says the channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Confirm the streamer meets the age requirement. YouTube currently lists 16 as the minimum age for live streaming.
- Enable live access ahead of launch. YouTube for Artists advises allowing at least 24 hours for first-time activation.
Eligibility rules and Studio labels can change. Check the current Live Control Room and your channel’s Studio notices rather than assuming an older account status still applies.

4. Prepare the continuous program and encoder
YouTube supports several ways to go live, including mobile, webcam, encoder, and console. An encoder is a practical choice for a prepared, radio-style program because it sends a composed feed to YouTube. You do not need to buy a dedicated hardware encoder based on the official guidance reviewed here; it does not establish a required computer model or minimum PC specification.
Build the audio-and-visual feed
- Assemble a playlist or scheduled program using only recordings and visuals cleared for the stream.
- Choose a visual that you have rights to use, even if the channel is primarily audio. A static image or repeated visual does not remove copyright or monetisation-policy requirements.
- Prepare a schedule that states what is playing and who owns or licensed it, so you can identify a track promptly if a rights issue occurs.
- Decide whether your encoder will run on a local computer or through a hosted workflow. With a local setup, that computer, its power, and its network connection must remain available while the encoder is sending the program.
Set up the YouTube event and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow (Live Control Room) and create or schedule the broadcast. Add an accurate title and description, select the intended privacy setting, and set a thumbnail you have permission to use.
- Choose the encoder option and copy the stream details provided by YouTube into the encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send a feed to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Configure the encoder for the source material and use the current settings guidance shown by YouTube for the selected ingest workflow. Keep the encoder’s output and the event’s intended format consistent; do not upscale a lower-resolution source expecting that to create genuine detail.
- Check YouTube’s current recommendations in the Live Control Room for resolution, bitrate, frame rate, audio, and keyframe interval. These values depend on the selected output and current platform guidance; the official material reviewed for this guide does not establish one universal bitrate or keyframe value for every 24/7 channel.
- Run an unlisted test. Confirm that audio is audible and clean, the image is correct, the event receives the feed, and the stream does not stop when the playlist moves between tracks. Check the encoder status and YouTube’s live preview before making the event public.
5. Choose a broadcast length and plan for archives
Google’s live-production guide says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. For broadcasts longer than 12 hours, it advises the creator’s team to record locally and upload the recording manually. Decide whether to run a long stream or shorter scheduled blocks based on who can monitor and restart it, and confirm your licence covers any recording or replay you plan to keep.

Neither a long single broadcast nor a series of shorter blocks removes the need to handle rights matches. Make a clear incident plan: who checks Studio and encoder alerts, who can restart the feed, and how you will respond if YouTube interrupts it or the local connection fails. The official guidance establishes archive behavior and the possibility of Content ID interruptions; it does not promise uninterrupted operation for a particular setup.

6. Troubleshoot common launch and continuity problems

7. Set realistic monetisation expectations
YouTube’s full Partner Programme eligibility requirements, as accessed in 2026, include 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Other account, policy, security, regional-availability, and AdSense conditions apply. Meeting the thresholds does not guarantee acceptance; YouTube reviews the channel. Check the Earn area in Studio for current requirements.
YouTube also expects monetised content to be original and non-repetitious, with commercial-use rights for the audio and visuals. Having music licences does not guarantee that a repetitive or mass-produced presentation will qualify for monetisation. Neither audience growth nor revenue is assured.
