How to Counter the Most Popular Jujutsu Shenanigans Characters (V1.83 Guide)

The reliable way to counter Jujutsu Shenanigans’ frequently top-ranked fighters is to manage space, wait out visible start-ups, preserve your Q dash, and treat domains and awakenings as resource events rather than panic buttons. In the V1.83-era roster, the matchups players ask about most often are Honored One (Gojo), Vessel (Yuji/Sukuna), Restless Gambler (Hakari), Perfection (Mahito), and Ten Shadows (Megumi). None has a universal, guaranteed hard counter: your plan depends on recognizing the opponent’s commitment and choosing when to disengage.

This guide reflects community matchup guidance dated October 2, 2026, and the V1.83 move index. Roblox balance changes can alter startup, hitboxes, damage, domains, or awakening behavior, so use the names and principles below as recognition tools rather than frame-perfect guarantees.

Start with the five questions that decide every matchup

Jujutsu Shenanigans is a Roblox PvP battleground built around M1 melee strings, four character skills, dash (Q), block (F), a special or counter (R), and awakening (G). Servers can hold 20 players, and the environment itself can be destroyed, so a plan that works in an empty training area may fail when another fight or a broken wall changes your escape route.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Range and space: Can the opponent force close combat, or can you keep a mid-range lane where their approach is visible?
  2. Startup and whiffs: Which attack has a readable windup? Block, sidestep, or dash only after the commitment is clear, then punish the recovery.
  3. Resource timing: Is the opponent building toward a domain, awakening, healing sequence, or limited meter? Make them spend it from a poor position whenever possible.
  4. Mobility and escape: Is your Q dash available? Spending it to chase a blocked target can leave you helpless when a stun or domain begins.
  5. Risk and recovery: Does the character have low health, healing, immortality, or a comeback transformation? Your trade policy should change accordingly.

These questions are more durable than a tier-list label. Tier order changes with updates, while spacing, resource awareness, and escape discipline remain useful across the roster.

Your universal controls and the mistakes they prevent

M1 strings and blocking

M1 pressure is the common close-range language of the game. F (block) is not a passive option to hold forever; use it to absorb a predictable approach, then move before the opponent can layer another angle. If you block while standing in a wall, corner, or hazard, the opponent may gain the position they wanted even without opening you immediately.

Q dash as an escape budget

Q is widely treated as the highest-value escape-from-stun button. Keep it available when you are in neutral against a character who can convert one hit into a long sequence. Dash through or away from a committed move rather than dashing on reaction to every feint. A wasted Q often matters more than a small amount of chip damage.

R special or counter

R varies by character, so identify what yours actually does before entering a public fight. Do not assume that every R beats a domain, awakening, or grab. Use it to interrupt a known commitment only when the matchup and your character’s version support that interaction.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

G awakening

G is a comeback resource, not an automatic opening move. The V1.83 guidance specifically warns that using awakening early can waste the tool that would have reversed a later deficit. Track the opponent’s health, domain availability, and your own escape route before activating.

Quick matchup map

Character Main threat Primary vulnerability Your first objective
Honored One (Gojo) Push, pull, teleportation, multi-range pressure, and an ultimate that scales during the match Position-dependent conversions and commitment to a predictable space Keep an escape lane and force a commitment before spending Q
Vessel (Yuji/Sukuna) Aggressive close-range damage based partly on health percentages, passive healing, and transformation Zoning and being denied the extended melee exchange Hold mid-range, punish approaches, and reset neutral instead of trading health
Restless Gambler (Hakari) Pressure plus a slot-machine domain that can grant temporary immortality Reliance on favorable timing and predictable approaches while fishing for luck Disengage safely around the domain transition and refuse bad trades
Perfection (Mahito) Close-range transfiguration, a punishing domain, and comeback potential Noticeable windups and a missed hug that wastes much of the threat Block or sidestep the approach, then punish the hug whiff
Ten Shadows (Megumi) Shikigami pressure, a domain that disables other domains, and Mahoraga during awakening Low health and precision requirements when summons are unavailable Pressure the player, track summons, and save a disengage for Mahoraga

How to counter Honored One (Gojo)

Gojo is versatile at several ranges. The community move index identifies Lapse Blue, Reversal Red, Rapid Punches, Twofold Kick, and Limitless; use those names to recognize the kit, not as proof of a particular startup or hitbox. His push, pull, teleportation, and scaling ultimate make standing in the wrong place more dangerous than simply being close to him.

Control the space he needs

Start with an escape route behind or beside you. Avoid parking yourself where a push or pull can send you into a wall, another player, or the next hit of a combo. Open ground gives you more options than a narrow corner, so rotate early rather than waiting until the environment has already trapped you.

Make teleportation a commitment

Do not spend Q on every visual cue. Watch whether Gojo has actually committed to an approach or is trying to make you dash first. Once he has chosen a direction, use your movement to leave the conversion point, then turn back after the attack has missed or ended. Your goal is not to outrun every move; it is to deny the position from which several moves become safe.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Respect the scaling ultimate and awakening window

Because the guide describes Gojo’s ultimate as scaling during the match, avoid giving him repeated free attempts while you are low on health. If he has awakening or ultimate available, keep your Q and avoid beginning a long, stationary string that cannot be canceled. Force him to spend the resource from neutral, then resume pressure only after the danger has passed.

Common Gojo mistakes

  • Chasing a teleport without an escape plan and arriving inside the next push or pull.
  • Using Q to approach, then having no dash when a displacement move starts.
  • Fighting with your back to a wall or destroyed terrain that removes your retreat lane.
  • Assuming a named move has a fixed frame advantage after a patch.

How to counter Vessel (Yuji/Sukuna)

Vessel is an aggressive fighter whose damage is partly based on percentages of health. The kit also has passive healing and a transformation that changes the fight. The indexed base moves are Cursed Strikes, Crushing Blow, Divergent Fist, and Manji Kick, with Combat Instincts listed as the special.

Turn the matchup into neutral exchanges

Vessel wants you to remain in a close-range string where health-based damage and healing can accumulate. Keep a mid-range gap instead. Poke only when you have a retreat line, then leave before the exchange becomes a trade. Zoning is the documented vulnerability, but zoning does not mean running in a circle forever: use movement to make the approach expensive and re-enter after a whiff.

Preserve Q for the first real conversion

Vessel’s pressure is most dangerous after the initial connection. Hold Q through feints and minor contact; spend it when you see the attack that would otherwise lock you into the next part of the sequence. If your dash is gone, block while moving toward open space rather than trying to win a raw M1 race.

Do not race the transformation

The transformation changes the risk profile. When Vessel is close to that resource, stop taking even trades and make the opponent approach through your preferred range. After the transformation begins, reassess the available space and your health before committing to a long combo. A reset is often better than a final hit attempt that gives healing or another conversion.

Common Vessel mistakes

  • Accepting a close-range trade because your health bars look similar.
  • Using Q offensively and then being unable to escape the next stun.
  • Continuing a combo after the opponent has reset to a range where your follow-up is unsafe.

How to counter Restless Gambler (Hakari)

Hakari applies straightforward pressure, but his domain behaves like a slot machine and can grant temporary immortality. Luck is part of the outcome, so no honest strategy can promise that every domain will fail. The indexed moves are Reserve Balls, Shutter Doors, Rough Energy, Fever Breaker, and Door Guard.

Recognize the domain transition

When Hakari begins setting up the domain, your priority changes from damage to survival and position. Move toward an exit lane, avoid being pinned by another player, and do not feed a predictable approach while he is fishing for a favorable sequence. The available guidance does not establish a guaranteed anti-domain move, so treat this as risk management rather than a hard counter.

Disengage during favorable luck

If the domain grants temporary immortality, stop trying to win a conventional health trade. Create distance, break line of approach with terrain when possible, and wait for the temporary state to end. Keep enough stamina and Q availability to avoid being cornered when Hakari returns to pressure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Punish the approach, not the gamble

Outside the domain, Hakari’s pressure is easier to read than the outcome of the slot sequence. Block or sidestep a committed entry, then take a short punish and leave. Long, greedy strings give him exactly the repeated contact he needs to rebuild momentum.

How to counter Perfection (Mahito)

Mahito is a close-range transfiguration fighter with a punishing domain and comeback potential. The dated matchup guidance notes noticeable attack windups and identifies the hug as the key risk: missing it wastes much of his potential. The indexed moves are Stockpile, Soul Fire, Focus Strike, Body Repel, and Self-Transfiguration.

Read the hug attempt

Do not stand still and block the entire approach if you can sidestep into open space. Let the windup become clear, move out of the grab line, and punish the recovery. A short, reliable punish is preferable to a long combo that leaves you beside Mahito when his next close-range option is ready.

Deny stationary targets

Transfiguration pressure is strongest when you remain in one place. Keep changing angle and distance, especially after a blocked hit. If the arena is crowded, rotate around the edge of the fight rather than backing into another player who can remove your escape lane.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Plan around domain and comeback resources

Mahito’s domain and comeback potential make low-health desperation dangerous. Save Q for the moment an approach would trap you, and avoid activating G merely to finish a small health lead if Mahito still has a domain or transformation threat. Make him miss first, then choose whether to continue or reset.

How to counter Ten Shadows (Megumi)

Megumi summons shikigami and has high potential but low health and a demanding precision requirement. His domain disables other domains, and his awakening can summon Mahoraga mid-match. The indexed moves are Rabbit Escape, Nue, Toad, Divine Dog: Totality, and Lurking Shadow.

Separate the summoner from the summons

Track both threats. A shikigami can occupy your attention while Megumi’s body takes a safer position, so do not tunnel-vision the creature. When a summon is unavailable or has just been spent, pressure Megumi’s low-health body before he can rebuild the screen of threats.

Use your domain timing carefully

Because Megumi’s domain disables other domains, do not assume your own domain will answer his. If you have a domain resource, use positioning and timing to avoid activating into a state that he can invalidate. Keep a non-domain plan ready: block, move, punish a summon commitment, and preserve Q.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Save an exit for Mahoraga

When Megumi awakens and Mahoraga appears, your immediate objective is survival and information. Disengage from the summon’s threat area, avoid standing still, and do not spend every escape tool on the first movement cue. Once the awakening pressure ends or creates a clear opening, return to the low-health summoner rather than chasing Mahoraga through the entire arena.

Useful adjustments against other frequently discussed characters

Choso

Choso combines zoning and combo pressure. His melee counter requires resource management, so force him to spend resources on movement or failed approaches instead of offering repeated close-range trades. Break line of sight when projectiles control the lane, then re-enter after the resource has been committed.

Naoya

Naoya is very fast but has low health. Do not chase his speed with constant panic dashes. Block or reposition through the approach, wait for a miss, and take a measured punish that uses his low-health weakness without giving him another free angle.

Yuki

Yuki’s attacks have long windups that can be punished. Stay just outside the threat line, identify the commitment, and use the recovery for your opening. Avoid wasting Q before the windup becomes an actual attack.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Higuruma

Higuruma’s trial sequence can produce a short-lived one-hit sword state. When that sequence is active, stop treating the exchange like ordinary neutral: create distance, avoid a predictable approach, and wait for the temporary threat to expire before re-engaging.

Yuta and Rika

Yuta/Rika has sustained pressure and the longest domain, but lower base damage. Preserve mobility through the extended domain threat, avoid getting trapped in a prolonged block sequence, and look for the moment pressure ends rather than forcing a damage race that favors endurance.

Handling domains and awakenings in a crowded server

Domains and awakenings are easiest to counter before activation. Watch the opponent’s meter and behavior, keep an open route, and avoid starting a move that roots you when the resource is ready. In a 20-player server, a second fighter can convert a safe retreat into a trap, so check nearby players before dashing through an apparent opening.

  • Before activation: Move away from corners, preserve Q, and stop taking unnecessary trades.
  • During the threat: Survive first. Block, rotate, and use terrain without assuming terrain will remain intact.
  • After it ends: Reassess health, cooldowns, and position. Punish only if the opponent is actually recovering; do not autopilot into the next resource.
  • For your own awakening: Activate when it changes a losing resource exchange or secures a meaningful reversal, not simply because G is available.

A practice routine that builds matchup awareness

  1. Learn recognition labels: In a private or low-pressure match, identify the visible starts of the opponent’s listed moves. Do not rely on a frame number unless a current patch source verifies it.
  2. Practice one-dash discipline: Play several exchanges without using Q offensively. Note which attacks genuinely require the escape and which can be blocked or walked around.
  3. Rehearse the resource event: Have a partner activate the relevant domain or awakening while you practice moving to open space instead of attacking.
  4. Review the first mistake: After a loss, ask whether you lost to range, a missed punish, a spent dash, a resource transition, or a bad trade. Change one behavior at a time.
  5. Recheck after patches: A balance update can change startup, hitboxes, damage, domains, or awakening behavior. Treat an old matchup clip as a hypothesis, not a guarantee.

What “best counter” really means

For these matchups, a counter is a repeatable decision pattern, not a character that wins automatically. Gojo is denied clean positioning; Vessel is denied extended close combat; Hakari is managed around domain luck; Mahito is punished for a missed hug; and Megumi is pressured when summons are unavailable while Mahoraga is treated as an escape event. Apply the same five questions—space, startup, resources, mobility, and recovery—to any new character added in a later update.
