Counter Sombra by tracking her limited Stealth and Translocator windows, communicating sightings, avoiding her Cyberspace zone, and helping the teammate she pressures. Overwatch’s October 6, 2026 patch moved Sombra to Support and removed Hack and Virus. She can now heal allies and weaken enemies, so advice based on her former ability-lockout kit is out of date. The practical response is coordinated attention—not a supposedly definitive counter-pick.
What changed in Sombra’s current kit?
Blizzard’s October 6, 2026 retail patch notes are the current reference for her abilities. Sombra is now a Support. Hack and Virus were removed; she no longer uses the old Hack ability to lock opponents out of their abilities. Instead, she can sustain an ally with Hotfix and use Cyberspace to affect a bounded area.

The official Season 5: A Grim Doctrine announcement also summarizes the Support rework. Blizzard’s patch notes explain that Weaken was introduced to affect damage and healing without completely preventing ability use.
How should you respond to Cyberspace?
Cyberspace is a projectile that explodes on impact and creates a zone. Its initial burst deals 40 damage to enemies and heals allies for 40. The zone lasts 3 seconds with a 5-meter radius; while it persists, it deals 25 damage per second to enemies and heals allies for 30 per second. Enemies caught in it receive Weaken, which reduces their damage and healing output by 50%.

- Notice the landing point. Move out of the harmful zone when you can rather than staying in it through its duration.
- Help a weakened teammate. If an ally is caught in the zone, coordinate pressure or support so they are not left to face the enemy team alone.
- Keep the effect in perspective. Weaken reduces damage and healing output; it does not prevent the affected player from using abilities.
How do you track Stealth and Translocator?
The October 6 patch sets specific limits for Sombra’s escape and repositioning tools. Translocator grants 6.5 seconds of Stealth, takes 0.75 seconds to enter Stealth, travels up to 12.25 meters, and has a 7.5-second cooldown. Its movement-speed bonus activates immediately after teleporting or after she fully enters Stealth.
Use these timings to think about when she may be vulnerable and where she could go next. Watch likely approach and escape directions, call out a sighting promptly, and focus attention together when she appears or commits to an action. The current source does not specify a detection radius, current sound cues, or a particular hero that detects her best, so avoid relying on unverified detection tricks.

How can you disrupt Hotfix?
Hotfix has two uses that matter to opponents. When Sombra targets an ally, it provides 65 instant health followed by 25 health per second, up to 175 total healing or 12 seconds. When she targets a health pack or most enemy deployables, the action does not use her ally-healing charges; that hacking action has a separate 6-second cooldown.
Damage can interrupt Hotfix when she is hacking a health pack or deployable, and interruption triggers that separate cooldown. If you see her begin one of those actions, coordinated damage can stop it. Do not assume the same interruption rule applies to ally-directed Hotfix: the patch only specifies interruption for health-pack and deployable hacking.

Using Hotfix while stealthed temporarily reveals Sombra without ending Stealth. Treat that as a brief opportunity to call her position and respond together, rather than assuming the reveal cancels her escape.
What should the team do when Sombra appears?
- Share the sighting. Give teammates a clear callout so they can watch her approach or likely repositioning route.
- Assist the pressured ally. Coordinate attention and protection instead of leaving one teammate to handle the engagement alone.
- React to the ability, not the old reputation. Watch for Cyberspace’s area and Weaken, and interrupt Hotfix only when it is targeting a health pack or deployable.
- Commit attention together. When Sombra appears or commits to an action, a coordinated response is more useful than scattered attempts to chase her.
Is there a definitive Sombra counter-pick?
No official source cited here ranks heroes as counters under the October 2026 rework, and the available evidence does not establish a strongest pick or matchup win rate. Rather than naming a guaranteed answer, choose a team response that addresses the situation: spotting an approach, surviving pressure, interrupting a health-pack or deployable hack, or assisting the teammate Sombra is affecting.
