How to Counter Agent Spider in Invincible VS: A Practical Matchup Plan for His DLC Release

There is no verified Agent Spider counter strategy yet. As of October 13, 2026, Agent Spider has only been announced as an upcoming Invincible VS DLC character with a winter release window. The available announcement material does not document his attacks, movement, frame data, defensive options, or tag interactions, so any article claiming a specific punish, spacing rule, or hard counter would be speculation.

The useful answer is a preparation and testing plan. When Agent Spider becomes playable, use Training Mode to catalog his approach tools, record his pressure sequences, test punish windows, and then verify the results in the current patch of the three-versus-three tag fighter. The procedure below is designed to produce matchup advice from observable behavior rather than guesses.

What is confirmed about Agent Spider

The character’s status determines what can responsibly be said about counterplay. Gematsu’s October 11, 2026 announcement identifies Agent Spider as downloadable content planned for a winter release window. It does not provide a complete move list, command inputs, frame data, hitboxes, damage values, or a playable demonstration that establishes weaknesses.

Question What is established What remains unknown
Is Agent Spider playable now? He has been announced as upcoming DLC. The material does not establish a live release date or current in-game availability.
When does he launch? The announcement says winter. No precise day, time, regional rollout, or patch number is confirmed here.
What does he do? No verified playable kit is documented in the available information. Normals, specials, movement, defensive mechanics, assists, supers, frame data, and resource costs.
What kind of game is Invincible VS? It is listed as a three-versus-three tag fighter with Training, Arcade, and multiplayer modes. The exact Agent Spider rules for assists, tags, and team-building cannot be inferred before testing.
Where is the game listed? Gematsu’s listing names PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. Current editions, regional availability, and whether a particular edition includes the DLC must be checked at release.

These limits are important. A character can look vulnerable in a trailer yet have safe versions, invincible reversals, an assist that covers the apparent gap, or a tag cancel that changes the risk completely. Until those properties are observable, “counter Agent Spider” has to mean “build a reliable answer once his tools are available,” not “memorize a known weakness.”

Why a specific counter list would be misleading today

Counterplay depends on relationships between moves, not on a character’s name or theme. To recommend a punish, you need to know at least the blocked move’s recovery, pushback, height, spacing, and whether Agent Spider can cancel into a special or tag. To recommend an anti-air, you need the jump arc, attack angle, hurtbox, and whether the move changes trajectory. To recommend a reversal, you need to know which defensive options are invulnerable, airborne, throwable, or resource-limited.

None of those properties is established for Agent Spider in the available announcement. Guessing that a web, leap, teleport, projectile, or overhead exists would create false instructions. Even if a later reveal uses one of those ideas, the animation alone would not tell you its startup, recovery, armor, invulnerability, or assist behavior. Treat every pre-release tier list, matchup chart, or “easy punish” claim as provisional unless it cites a reproducible test on a named patch.

How to test Agent Spider in Training Mode

Once the DLC is installed and Agent Spider can be selected, follow a fixed sequence. The goal is to turn a large unknown kit into a short list of repeatable decisions. Record the patch number and date at the top of your notes; a balance update can invalidate an otherwise correct answer.

  1. Choose a test team. Start with the character you normally play, then add the two teammates you use most often. If you are still deciding on a team, use one character with a fast grounded button, one with a dependable anti-air, and one with a long-range or defensive option. This is a testing setup, not a claim that these archetypes are optimal.
  2. Set neutral conditions. Reset both characters to full health and normal resources. Test Agent Spider alone first so that assists and tag extensions do not hide the properties of his personal moves.
  3. Catalog movement. Check walk speed, dash distance, air movement, jump timing, backdash behavior, and any movement that changes his hurtbox. Stand at point-blank, midscreen, and maximum normal range. Record which of your buttons reaches him during each approach and which whiff.
  4. Record every visible attack. Use the training dummy’s recording function if available. Make separate recordings for grounded normals, command normals, crouching attacks, jumping attacks, specials, supers, and movement specials. If the game offers move data, write down startup, active frames, recovery, advantage or disadvantage on block, and cancel options. If it does not, use repeatable punish tests instead of inventing frame numbers.
  5. Test block responses. Block each attack high and low where appropriate, then try a throw, your fastest normal, a longer-range normal, a jump, and a backdash. Repeat at several distances. A move that is punishable at point-blank may push you too far away for the same button to connect.
  6. Test interruption points. Record common-looking strings and specials in isolation. Try mashing your fastest attack, crouching under the next hit, jumping, backdashing, reflecting or parrying if your character has such a mechanic, and using an invulnerable option if available. Repeat the sequence with a delayed follow-up so you do not mistake a gap for a guaranteed interrupt.
  7. Check anti-air and air-to-air coverage. Record Agent Spider’s jump-in attacks from different heights and distances. Test your dedicated anti-air, a standing button, a crouching button, an air-to-air attack, and simply blocking. Note whether the attack crosses up, changes sides, or is safe because of spacing.
  8. Test tags and assists last. Add one Agent Spider assist at a time. Record a blocked normal into assist, a blocked special into assist, a jump-in into assist, and a reversal attempt covered by assist. Then test whether he can tag out, tag in, or extend pressure after the assist is blocked. The same personal move can become safe when a teammate covers its recovery.

Repeat each test from both sides of the screen. Side-switching animations, corner pushback, and cross-up protection can make a response work on player one’s side but fail on player two’s. Save short recordings of any result that matters so you can reproduce it after a patch.

The six matchup questions that produce real counters

Organize your notes around decisions you can make during a match. A long move list is less useful than a small table telling you what to do when Agent Spider chooses a particular approach.

Axis What to measure What a usable answer looks like
Range and approach coverage Where his grounded buttons, jumps, dashes, and movement specials reach; which spaces your character controls. “Hold this distance, then use this button when he enters it,” with a stated side or spacing condition.
Startup and recovery How quickly an attack becomes active and how long Agent Spider is vulnerable afterward. A punish or interruption that works against the recorded version, not merely against the animation.
Block and punish risk Blockstun, pushback, cancel routes, plus or minus advantage, and whether a follow-up is delayed. A response tree: punish immediately, challenge, continue blocking, or retreat.
Air and grounded coverage Anti-air hitboxes, jump trajectory, cross-up angles, low attacks, overheads, and air mobility. A choice for each approach: anti-air, block direction, air-to-air, or reposition.
Tag-assist interaction Which assists cover gaps, protect recovery, force left-right or high-low ambiguity, or enable safe escapes. A team-specific answer that states whether to block, contest the assist, switch, or wait.
Patch consistency Whether the result survives the current balance version, corner position, and resource state. A dated note with the patch number and a repeatable recording.

A launch-day test plan you can finish in one session

You do not need to discover every interaction before playing online. Establish the high-value answers first, then expand the chart as opponents reveal new routes.

First 10 minutes: identify the threat

  • Find the fastest grounded attack and the longest grounded attack.
  • Find the most direct approach: dash, jump, special movement, or other tool shown by the command list.
  • Check whether his jump-in can cross up and whether his lowest attack reaches a standing opponent.
  • Test the apparent reversal or defensive special against a meaty attack, throw, and delayed button if the character has one.

At the end of this pass, you should know what to watch for in neutral and what to do when you are knocked down. Do not assign a move a strength or weakness from appearance alone; confirm it with a hit or block result.

Next 10 minutes: find punishable actions

  • Record every special at point-blank, midscreen, and the edge of its range.
  • After blocking, try your fastest normal, your longest fast normal, a low, a throw, and a jump.
  • Repeat while Agent Spider delays the follow-up or cancels into another move.
  • Mark only responses that work against the recording more than once from the same condition.

This creates a first punish list. Write the condition with it, such as “only punish at point-blank” or “works after the projectile is blocked but not when it is spaced.” A punish without its condition is an online trap.

Final 10 minutes: test the team layer

  • Choose the Agent Spider assist most often used by the opponents you face.
  • Record a blocked string into that assist and test whether you can challenge before the assist becomes active.
  • Test blocking, pushblocking or equivalent defensive mechanics, jumping, switching characters, and spending meter if those options exist for your team.
  • Repeat in the corner, where pushback and escape routes differ.

Finish by testing your own preferred assist behind a blocked Agent Spider approach. A matchup answer is more valuable when it also lets you take your turn, escape pressure, or force him to respect a reversal.

How to turn tests into in-match decisions

When Agent Spider is approaching from neutral

Use the range notes rather than reacting to the character’s animation as a whole. If his dash loses to a button at a known distance, stand just outside his longest normal and place that button when he enters range. If jumping beats your grounded check, reserve an anti-air instead of repeatedly pressing the same normal. If both choices lose to a movement special, stop contesting that range until you have tested the special’s recovery or found a way to make it whiff.

Do not assume that the answer is always to attack first. A safe block at the edge of an approach can deny a counter-hit and leave you close enough to punish recovery. Record both the aggressive and defensive result, then choose based on your character’s reward and the opponent’s resources.

When you are blocking pressure

Identify the first point at which Agent Spider must commit to continue. If a gap is real, your fastest button may interrupt; if the gap is only apparent because of pushback, pressing can lose. Check delayed attacks separately, because a player who expects your mash can bait it with a stagger or frame trap. If an assist covers the gap, test the assist’s timing rather than relying on the personal string’s result.

Use a three-part rule in your notes: the move or sequence, the condition, and the response. For example, record “blocked special at point-blank: fastest normal punish,” not simply “special is unsafe.” That wording prevents you from carrying a point-blank result into midscreen or an assist-backed version.

When Agent Spider is on defense

Test his wake-up options before committing to a universal meaty. Check whether he can invulnerably attack, move through you, jump, backdash, or call an assist while waking. Then test your pressure against each response. If one option is costly or resource-dependent, track the resource state in your match notes; a counter that works only without meter is not a universal answer.

When the corner changes the matchup

Repeat your key punish and escape tests with Agent Spider in the corner. A move that is safe because of pushback may become punishable when the wall stops him from moving away. Conversely, a side-switch or cross-up may disappear in the corner. Record corner-specific options instead of assuming midscreen data transfers unchanged.

Tag-fighter considerations

Invincible VS is presented as a three-versus-three tag fighter, so Agent Spider cannot be evaluated as a single-character matchup forever. His assist may be more important than his point-game neutral, and a teammate can change the risk of every blocked special. Build separate notes for three situations:

Agent Spider as the active character

Focus on his personal neutral, pressure, defense, and meter use. Identify which actions let him safely call an assist and which leave him exposed if the assist is unavailable.

Agent Spider as an assist

Measure the assist’s startup, duration, hit level, screen coverage, and recovery. Test whether you can block it, jump it, hit Agent Spider’s point character before it becomes active, or punish the assist after it disappears. Do not assume an assist has the same properties as the corresponding special used by the active character.

Agent Spider entering through a tag

Record raw tag-ins and tag-ins covered by an assist. Test your fastest check, anti-air, throw, and retreat. If the game allows a character to tag out of pressure, determine whether your answer hits the incoming character, the outgoing character, or neither. A response that is strong against a solo string may fail when the opponent spends a tag resource.

How to verify a claimed counter

Before sharing a matchup answer, require four details:

  • FUN & EASY HOOP PLAY: Players of any age and level can learn the basics and play in style as they shoot, dunk, and block.
  • CO-OP ON THE COURTS: Shoot hoops with family and friends and amp up the challenge with up to 4 players.
  • PRACTICE YOUR MOVES: Choose your game mode and work on your lay-ups in Training, compete in a Full Season or Party playing Ball Pop and more.
  • MASCOT MAYHEM: Jump into the shenanigans with your favorite team mascot in Party Mode.
  • BUILD YOUR PERFECT LINEUP: Choose an Eastern or Western Conference team and design your players from the hair to the sneakers and funky trails.
  • Patch and date: name the balance version used for the test.
  • Exact situation: identify the move, spacing, side, corner state, and resource state.
  • Repeatable input: state the button or sequence that produces the answer.
  • Failure case: test at least one spacing change, delayed follow-up, assist cover, or alternate version.

When you cite another player’s finding, attribute it to that named player and preserve the conditions they tested. When you perform the test yourself, describe the Training Mode recording and date rather than presenting an unverified universal rule. No Agent Spider frame data or patch-specific matchup result is established in the available material, so those details should be added only after someone can reproduce them.

Common mistakes that create bad Agent Spider advice

Guessing from the character concept

A spider-themed character may suggest webs, traps, or mobility, but a theme is not evidence of a move or weakness. Wait for the command list and in-game behavior.

Calling every blocked move unsafe

Pushback, spacing, special cancels, and assists can make the same animation punishable in one situation and safe in another. Test the exact distance and follow-up.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Testing only one side or one position

Cross-ups, corner behavior, and screen edges can change the result. Repeat important checks from both sides and in the corner.

Ignoring delayed options

A gap that loses to a mash may become a frame trap when Agent Spider delays the next attack. Record both immediate and delayed versions before recommending an interruption.

Using old clips after a patch

Balance updates can alter startup, recovery, pushback, hitboxes, damage, or assist duration. Date every note and retest the punish after a patch that changes either character.

What to check before buying or installing the DLC

The available listing establishes the game’s relevance and names PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, but it does not verify a current price, physical edition, regional availability, or whether a particular base-game edition includes Agent Spider. Check the store page for your platform and region at release. Confirm that the listing is for the edition you own and that the DLC entitlement is included or purchased separately; do not infer inclusion from a trailer or from the base game’s title.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When this guide can become a real matchup guide

A definitive counter article needs official gameplay information or reproducible post-release testing. The minimum useful evidence is a complete command list, observed recordings of each special and assist, punish tests at multiple distances, and results tied to a named patch. Once those exist, the matchup can be updated with concrete anti-airs, punish buttons, blockstrings to challenge, assist-specific answers, and team recommendations. Until then, the responsible conclusion is limited but actionable: prepare a testing routine, avoid invented frame data, and treat every early claim as provisional.
