Report the misleading answer to the search or AI product that displayed it, then contact the owner of the cited webpage if that page contains the error. Neither step guarantees immediate removal or a personal reply. Do not use AI-generated health information to diagnose yourself, change medication, or delay care; check it with a qualified healthcare professional.
What to do first if an AI search result gives wrong medical advice
- Pause before acting on it. If the answer could affect a diagnosis, medication, or treatment, ask a qualified healthcare professional. For a possible emergency, contact local emergency services or a clinician immediately.
- Document the specific problem. Note the search question, product and feature, date, exact misleading sentence, and any cited pages. A screenshot can help preserve what appeared. This is a practical checklist, not a universal platform requirement.
- Report the answer where you saw it. Use the product’s feedback or report control; the available route depends on the product.
- Check the cited page and contact its owner if needed. A platform report does not correct a publisher’s webpage.
Medical guidance can change, and a claim may be false, misleading, incomplete, or simply missing context. The U.S. Surgeon General defines health misinformation as information that is false, inaccurate, or misleading according to the best available evidence at the time (HHS Office of the Surgeon General). Be specific about what the answer gets wrong and what reliable evidence supports that assessment.

How do I report incorrect health information on Google?
In Google Search, select Feedback below the health information, explain the issue using the on-screen steps, and submit. Google says it uses this feedback to improve results in the future; its help page does not promise a specific correction, removal, response, or timeline. See Google’s health information guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesGoogle Search health information and Gemini Apps are separate products. For Gemini, use the feedback or report-issue instructions linked from Gemini’s response information page. Gemini warns that responses can be inaccurate and should not be relied on as professional advice. Do not assume the reporting controls or process are identical to Google Search.

How do I report an inaccurate Copilot or Bing answer?
Microsoft’s Copilot guidance says you can choose Give feedback in Settings or use the flag icon beneath a response on Copilot web and mobile. In the Copilot app, long-press a response and select Report. For potentially harmful or misleading AI-generated material in Bing, Microsoft also directs users to feedback and Report a Concern. See Microsoft’s Copilot privacy FAQ and Bing’s concern-reporting page.
Microsoft says feedback and reports are reviewed by operations teams, but that is not a promise of a personal reply, a correction deadline, or removal. A cited link is a place to investigate, not proof that Copilot represented its contents accurately.
When should I use Bing’s content removal tool?
Use the Bing Content Removal Tool for a different problem: information has already been removed from the website, but it still appears in Bing, such as in an outdated cached result. It is not a substitute for reporting an AI answer that misstates information still present on its source page. Microsoft explains this distinction in its Bing content removal guidance.

How to check whether the cited health page is wrong
Compare the answer’s exact wording with the cited page in context, then check current guidance from a relevant public-health agency, recognized health institution, or peer-reviewed evidence. NIH’s guide recommends evaluating the site and the evidence, not just trusting a polished presentation. Ask:
- Who is responsible for the page? Check ownership, funding, and purpose, including whether a commercial interest could shape the content.
- What evidence supports the claim? Look for original medical or scientific sources and see whether they actually support the specific statement.
- Who prepared or reviewed it? Check authors’ or reviewers’ qualifications and whether the page identifies medical review.
- How current is it? Look for a review or update date. Health information needs regular review because evidence and recommendations can change.
NIH’s Office of Dietary Supplements provides these checks in How To Evaluate Health Information on the Internet. Discuss information that could affect your care with a healthcare provider.
What publishers can do to correct the underlying page
If you manage the site, correct the medical claim on the source page using reliable evidence; make the correction visible, identify qualified authors or reviewers, and show when the content was reviewed. Review related metadata too, since it may appear in Search. Google Search Central recommends manually checking AI-assisted content for accuracy and trustworthiness and says its guidance is not a formula for ranking first (Google Search’s guidance on generative AI content).
Clear presentation can also help readers and AI systems interpret the material. CDC guidance for public-health organizations recommends plain language, descriptive headings, explanations of medical terms, and links to authoritative guidance or peer-reviewed evidence. It describes these as aids to accurate representation, not a guarantee that an AI answer or search ranking will change. See CDC’s GEO considerations.

Feedback tells a platform about a problem; it does not itself repair the source webpage. Google says feedback helps improve future results, while Microsoft says it reviews feedback and reports. The cited help pages do not establish a guaranteed removal, individual response, or correction timeframe. If the source page itself is inaccurate, contact the publisher or responsible site owner as well as reporting the generated answer.

Google has acknowledged that, in a small number of cases, AI Overviews misinterpreted webpage language and presented inaccurate information. Its May 2024 post described broad technical improvements and refinements for health queries, not a guarantee about current answers or the outcome of an individual report (Google’s account of AI Overviews and next steps).
