Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSafari makes it easy to copy the address of a single page, but collecting the URLs from every open tab is less straightforward. If you are saving research, moving a browsing session to another device, sharing sources with someone else, or cleaning up a crowded window, copying all tab links at once can save a lot of manual work.
There are several practical ways to do it on a Mac, depending on how much control you need. You can use Safari’s bookmark features as a workaround, automate the process with AppleScript or Shortcuts, work with Tab Groups, or rely on third-party tab managers and extensions for larger sessions.

The best method depends on whether you want a quick one-time export, a reusable workflow, or a safer way to organize and share dozens or hundreds of links without losing context.
Check Whether Safari Has a Built-In Copy-All-Tabs Option
Safari does not consistently offer a universal, one-click command named “Copy URLs of All Tabs” across macOS versions. Before using workarounds, it is worth checking what your installed version of Safari can do, because Apple has changed tab-related menus over time and some options appear only in certain contexts, such as when using Tab Groups, pinned tabs, or a specific Safari window.

Start by looking through the Safari menu bar while Safari is active. Open File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Window, and any tab-related contextual menus. You can also right-click, or Control-click, a tab in the tab bar to see whether Safari offers commands such as moving tabs, closing other tabs, bookmarking mulle tabs, or copying a link for the current page. In many Safari versions, you will find options for bookmarking open tabs, reopening recently closed tabs, or managing Tab Groups, but not a direct command that places every open tab URL on the clipboard.
The closest built-in feature is usually bookmark-based rather than clipboard-based. Depending on your Safari version, you may see an option such as Add Bookmarks for These Tabs under the Bookmarks menu. This saves the current set of tabs into a bookmark folder, which can then be used as a staging area for collecting links. It is not the same as copying all URLs instantly, but it is reliable and does not require scripts, extensions, or third-party apps.
Also check whether you are working in one Safari window or several. Safari’s built-in menu commands often apply only to the frontmost window, not every tab open across all windows. If you have research spread across mulle windows, a command that references “these tabs” may capture only the tabs in the active window. Similarly, if you use Tab Groups, Safari may treat the visible group separately from tabs in another group, so verify which group or window is active before assuming every URL has been included.

What to check in Safari first
- Safari version: Newer macOS releases may include different tab and Tab Group controls than older versions.
- Bookmarks menu: Look for an option to bookmark all open tabs in the current window.
- Tab context menu: Control-click a tab to review available tab actions.
- Active window: Confirm whether the command affects only the current window or more than one window.
- Tab Groups: Make sure the intended Tab Group is selected before saving or exporting links.
If you do not find a direct copy-all-tabs command, that is normal. Safari is more conservative than some browsers when it comes to bulk tab export. The practical paths are to save tabs as bookmarks, use AppleScript or Shortcuts to gather URLs automatically, or rely on a reputable tab manager if you need repeatable exporting, formatting, or cross-browser support.
Copy All Open Tab URLs Using Bookmarks
If you do not want to use scripts or extensions, Safari’s bookmark features provide a reliable workaround for collecting the URLs from all currently open tabs. The idea is simple: save every open tab into a temporary bookmarks folder, then export or copy those saved links from Safari’s bookmark manager. This is not as fast as a one-click “copy all tabs” command, but it uses only built-in Safari tools and works well when you need to preserve a browsing session.
To start, open the Safari window that contains the tabs you want to capture. In the menu bar, choose Bookmarks, then select Add Bookmarks for These Tabs. Safari will ask where to save the bookmarks and what to call the folder. Create a clearly named temporary folder, such as Open Tabs May 19 or Research Links Export, so you can find it easily later. Safari saves each open tab in that window as a separate bookmark inside the folder.
- Open the Safari window with the tabs you want to save.
- Go to Bookmarks > Add Bookmarks for These Tabs.
- Choose a destination, such as Favorites or Bookmarks Menu.
- Name the new folder so it is easy to identify.
- Click Add to save all tabs as bookmarks.
After the folder is created, open Safari’s bookmarks view by choosing Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks, or by using the sidebar if your bookmarks are visible there. Find the folder you just created. From here, you can open each bookmark and copy its address, but that is inefficient for large sets. A more practical option is to export your bookmarks and extract the links from the exported file.
To export, choose File > Export > Bookmarks. Safari saves an HTML file containing your bookmarks. Open that file in a text editor, or open it in a browser and inspect the saved folder. The URLs are stored as links, so you can copy them into a document, spreadsheet, s app, or link manager. If you only need the temporary folder, you may want to export shortly after creating it, then delete the folder from Safari afterward to avoid cluttering your bookmarks library.
When this method works best
- Saving a research session: Bookmark folders preserve page titles along with URLs, which makes the links easier to understand later.
- Creating a backup before closing tabs: You can safely close the tabs after confirming the bookmark folder was created.
- Moving links to another browser: The exported bookmarks HTML file can often be imported into Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or another Safari profile.
- Sharing a curated set of pages: You can clean up the exported list before sending it to someone else.
This workaround has a few limitations. Safari’s Add Bookmarks for These Tabs applies to the tabs in the current window, not necessarily every Safari window you have open. If your tabs are spread across mulle windows, repeat the process for each window or consolidate the tabs first. Also, exported bookmarks include more than just the temporary folder unless you clean up your bookmarks before exporting or manually extract only the links you need from the HTML file.
For smaller tab sets, the bookmark method is straightforward and safe. For dozens or hundreds of tabs, it is still useful, but you may need an extra cleanup step to remove duplicates, private pages, expired session URLs, or links that include tracking parameters. Before sharing the final list, scan it for personal account pages, internal work URLs, and anything that should not be distributed.
Use AppleScript to Copy URLs from Every Safari Tab
AppleScript is one of the most direct ways to collect the URLs from every open Safari tab on a Mac. Unlike the bookmark workaround, it can read the current Safari windows and place a plain-text list of links on the clipboard in one action. This is useful when you frequently need to paste research links into s, Mail, a task manager, a spreadsheet, or a document.

The first time you run an AppleScript that controls Safari, macOS may ask for automation permission. If the script does not work, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation and make sure Script Editor, Shortcuts, or whichever app is running the script is allowed to control Safari. Safari must also be open, and pages that have not fully loaded may return blank or incomplete URLs until they finish loading.
Save the script for repeated use
- Run from Script Editor: Save the script as a regular script file and open it whenever needed.
- Export as an app: In Script Editor, choose File > Export, set the file format to Application, and save it somewhere convenient.
- Add a keyboard workflow: Use Automator, Shortcuts, or a launcher such as Raycast, Alfred, or LaunchBar to trigger the script faster.
AppleScript generally reads tabs from normal Safari windows, but there are a few limitations. Private Browsing windows may behave differently depending on macOS and Safari privacy restrictions. Empty start pages may return empty values. Pinned tabs are usually included if they are part of a window, but tabs inside inactive Tab Groups can be less predictable unless Safari has those groups loaded in open windows. For a large session, paste the copied output into a plain-text file first, then review it before sending or importing it elsewhere.
Create a Shortcut to Collect Safari Tab Links
Shortcuts on macOS can be a cleaner alternative to AppleScript if you want a reusable button for collecting Safari tab URLs. The exact actions available depend on your macOS version, but the general workflow is to get Safari tabs, extract their web addresses, combine them into text, and copy or save the result. Once built, the shortcut can be run from the Shortcuts app, the menu bar, Spotlight, Siri, or a keyboard shortcut.
Open the Shortcuts app on your Mac and create a new shortcut named something like Copy Safari Tab URLs. In the action search field, look for Safari-related actions such as Get Current Web Page from Safari, Get Details of Safari Web Page, or actions that refer to Safari tabs. If your version supports retrieving mulle tabs, choose the action that returns open tabs or web pages, then add an action to get the URL from each item. After that, use Combine Text with New Lines as the separator, followed by Copy to Clipboard.
- Create a new shortcut in the Shortcuts app.
- Add an action that gets Safari web pages or tabs.
- Add Get Details of Safari Web Page and choose URL.
- Add Combine Text and set the separator to New Lines.
- Add Copy to Clipboard, or use Save File if you want a text file instead.
If Shortcuts only sees the frontmost Safari page on your Mac, you can still use it as a wrapper around a script. Add the Run AppleScript action and paste in a script that loops through Safari windows and tabs, returning one URL per line. Then pass that result to Copy to Clipboard, Show Result, or Save File. This gives you the convenience of Shortcuts while keeping the broader tab access that AppleScript provides.
For large tab collections, consider formatting the output before copying it. A plain list of URLs is best for spreadsheets, import tools, and archival text files. A Markdown list is better for sharing in GitHub, Notion, Obsidian, or documentation. You can build that in Shortcuts by combining each page title with its URL, producing entries such as – Page Title. If you plan to share the list with others, review it first because Safari tabs may include private documents, account pages, internal dashboards, or URLs containing tracking parameters and access tokens.

Shortcuts can also be attached to a keyboard shortcut for quick use. Open the shortcut’s settings, enable it in the menu bar if desired, and assign a key combination from the macOS keyboard settings if available on your version. Test it with a small Safari window first, then with mulle windows, pinned tabs, and private browsing windows. Some Safari states may not be exposed consistently to Shortcuts, so a quick test helps confirm whether the automation captures the same set of tabs you expect.
Copy URLs from Safari Tab Groups
Safari Tab Groups are useful when you keep separate sets of pages for work, research, shopping, travel planning, or personal browsing. However, copying every URL from a Tab Group is less direct than copying links from the currently visible Safari window. Safari does not provide a dedicated “copy all links in this Tab Group” command, so the usual approach is to first open or activate the Tab Group, then use one of the same methods you would use for normal tabs: bookmarks, AppleScript, Shortcuts, or a tab-management utility.
To work with a Tab Group manually, open Safari on your Mac, show the sidebar, and select the Tab Group you want. Once the group is active, its tabs appear in the current Safari window. From there, you can select all tabs in the group and save them as bookmarks, or run a script that reads the URLs from the front Safari window. This works well when the Tab Group is fully loaded in one window, but it is worth checking the tab count before you copy. If some tabs are suspended, private, pinned, or still loading, a script or automation may skip them or return incomplete page data.
Manual bookmark method for a Tab Group
- Open Safari and click the sidebar button.
- Select the Tab Group whose URLs you want to collect.
- Make sure the expected tabs are visible in the current window.
- Choose Bookmarks > Add Bookmarks for These Tabs.
- Create a temporary folder with a clear name, such as Research Links Export.
- Open the bookmarks sidebar or bookmarks manager, then copy or export the saved links as needed.
This bookmark-based approach is slower than a script, but it is dependable because it creates a visible saved set before you share or edit anything. It is also safer for large Tab Groups because you can review the folder, remove duplicate or irrelevant pages, and rename bookmarks before sending the links to someone else. If you only need a plain-text list, you can use the bookmark folder as a staging area, then copy the links into s, TextEdit, Numbers, or a project document.
Using automation with Tab Groups
If you prefer AppleScript or Shortcuts, activate the Tab Group first and then run your automation against the tabs in the current Safari window. This is usually enough for everyday use, especially when each Tab Group opens in a single window. If you have mulle Safari windows or the same Tab Group open in more than one place, confirm which window your automation targets. Many simple scripts collect URLs from the front window only, not from every Tab Group stored in Safari.

- For multiple Tab Groups: process one group at a time and label each exported list with the Tab Group name.
- For shared Tab Groups: review links before sending them onward, since other participants may have added or changed tabs.
- For iCloud-synced Tab Groups: allow Safari time to sync before copying, especially after switching devices.
Tab Groups can also include pages that require a signed-in session, local network access, or temporary search results. The copied URL may not open the same way for another person, even if the link itself is valid. Before sharing a large Tab Group export, remove account pages, checkout pages, internal dashboards, and documents that depend on your permissions. For long-term storage, save the links with a date and project name so you can tell whether the list came from a current Tab Group or an older research session.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use Third-Party Extensions or Tab Managers
If you regularly need to export dozens or hundreds of Safari tabs, a dedicated extension or tab manager can be more convenient than bookmarks, AppleScript, or Shortcuts. These tools are designed to capture open tabs, save sessions, restore windows later, and often export links in a clean text format. They are especially useful if you research in batches, keep separate workspaces for projects, or need to send a complete set of references to someone else.
Safari extensions are installed from the Mac App Store and then enabled in Safari > Settings > Extensions. Look for tools that specifically mention session saving, tab export, tab backup, or workspace management. Depending on the extension, you may be able to copy all current tab URLs to the clipboard, save them as a named session, export them as Markdown, or generate a shareable list. Some tools also preserve window structure, which is helpful when your tabs are grouped by task rather than opened in one long row.
What to look for in a tab manager
- Plain-text export: The most flexible option is a simple list with one URL per line, because it works in Notes, email, spreadsheets, task managers, and documentation tools.
- Title plus URL export: For research, a format that includes the page title and link is easier to scan than bare URLs.
- Window and Tab Group support: If you use multiple Safari windows or Tab Groups, check whether the tool captures only the front window or every open tab.
- Session restore: A tab manager should not only export links but also let you reopen saved sets reliably.
- Search and tagging: These features matter if you plan to save tab sets over time instead of doing a one-time export.
Before relying on any extension, test it with a small set of tabs. Open three or four pages across one or two Safari windows, run the export command, and check whether the output includes the expected pages in a useful order. Then test edge cases such as pinned tabs, private windows, iCloud tabs, and Tab Groups. Many extensions cannot access private browsing tabs, and some only work with the active Safari window unless they clearly state otherwise.
Privacy is also worth considering. A tab exporter may need permission to read webpages or access browsing data so it can collect tab titles and URLs. Install tools only from developers you trust, review the permission prompt carefully, and avoid granting broad access unless the feature genuinely requires it. For sensitive work, such as legal, medical, financial, or internal company research, a local AppleScript or manual bookmark export may be safer than sending tab data through a third-party service.
Third-party tab managers are best when you need repeatable workflows: saving research sessions at the end of each day, archiving client-specific tab sets, or moving a large browsing session into another app. If you only need a quick one-time list, Safari bookmarks or a small automation may be enough. But if copying tab URLs is part of how you organize work, a well-chosen extension can turn a messy browser session into a searchable, restorable, and shareable collection of links.

Tips for Organizing, Saving, and Sharing Copied Tab URLs
After you copy a large set of Safari tab URLs, spend a minute cleaning up the list before you store or send it. Raw tab exports often include duplicates, login pages, search results, temporary checkout pages, and pages with long tracking parameters. Paste the links into a plain-text editor first, such as TextEdit in plain-text mode, BBEdit, VS Code, s, or a Markdown document, so you can review them without accidentally opening everything again.
A simple structure makes the list much easier to use later. Add a short title, the date, and the context for the tab set, especially if the URLs came from a research session, a client project, travel planning, or troubleshooting. If you copied tabs from mulle Safari windows or Tab Groups, separate them under clear labels instead of keeping one long uninterrupted list.

- Markdown: Useful if you want clickable named links, headings, checklists, or project notes.

- Bookmarks folder: Best when you plan to reopen the same set of pages in Safari later.
- Read-it-later app: Better for articles you want to read, tag, and archive without keeping them as active tabs.
For long lists, remove obvious duplicates before sharing. Many copied URLs differ only because of tracking parameters such as utm_source, utm_campaign, referral IDs, or session tokens. If the clean version of the link still opens the same page, use the shorter version. This makes the list easier to scan and reduces the chance of sharing personal or analytics-related data. Be especially careful with links from webmail, cloud storage, banking sites, admin dashboards, private documents, or shopping carts, because the URL itself may reveal account names, document titles, search terms, or temporary access tokens.
When sending many links to someone else, do not paste an unformatted wall of URLs into a chat message. Group links by topic and add short descriptions where needed. For example, use sections such as Reference articles, Product pages, Competitors, Docs, and To review later. If the recipient only needs a subset, trim the list before sending it. For teams, a shared document in iCloud s, Google Docs, Notion, Obsidian Sync, or a project management tool is usually cleaner than a giant message thread.
Safer ways to share large link collections
- Use a shared note or document when people may need to comment, edit, or mark links as reviewed.
- Export as a text or Markdown file when you want a portable record that will not change after sending.
- Create a temporary bookmarks folder if the recipient also uses Safari and wants to open the set in batches.
- Check private or signed-in URLs before sharing links copied from work tools, cloud drives, or account pages.
- Open links in smaller batches when restoring them later, since reopening dozens of tabs at once can slow Safari or reload outdated sessions.
If the tab list is part of an ongoing workflow, use consistent naming. A folder or file named Research links becomes vague after a week, while 2026-05-19 Safari extension research links is easy to find later. For recurring projects, keep one master link document and add dated sections beneath it. That approach is safer than relying on open tabs as storage, since Safari windows can be closed, synced tabs can change, and Tab Groups may not preserve every page exactly as you expect across devices.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Safari have a built-in button to copy the URLs of all open tabs?
Safari does not usually include a simple “Copy URLs of All Tabs” command like some other browsers or extensions do. The closest built-in workaround is to bookmark all open tabs into a folder, then copy or export those links from the bookmarks. For faster repeated use, AppleScript or Shortcuts is usually more convenient.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Can I copy URLs from all Safari windows, or only the current window?
It depends on the method you use. Bookmarking tabs from Safari typically focuses on the current window, while an AppleScript can be written to loop through every open Safari window and collect every tab URL. If you often work across mulle windows, automation is the most reliable option.
Will these methods work with Safari Tab Groups?
Safari Tab Groups can complicate things because the visible tabs depend on which group is active. You may need to switch to each Tab Group and run your bookmark, Shortcut, or AppleScript method separately. Some third-party tab managers handle Tab Groups better, but support varies by app and Safari version.
Can I copy both the page titles and URLs instead of just the links?
Yes, AppleScript and Shortcuts can usually collect both the tab title and the URL, then format them as plain text, Markdown, or a spreadsheet-friendly list. For example, you can output each tab as “Page Title — https://example.com” or as Markdown links. This is useful when sharing research, creating reading lists, or documenting sources.
What is the safest way to save a large set of Safari tabs before closing them?
For a large tab session, save the URLs in more than one place before closing anything. Bookmark all tabs into a dated folder, then also copy the links into a plain-text , document, or cloud-synced app. If the tabs include private, work, or account-specific pages, review the list before sharing because copied URLs may contain sensitive tokens, search terms, or document names.

Safari doesn’t always make copying every open tab into a single clean list obvious, but you have several reliable options: use bookmarks as a temporary holding place, run an AppleScript or Shortcut, or choose a trusted third-party extension if you do this often. The best method depends on whether you need a one-time export, regular archiving, or a shareable list from a busy browsing session.
Before closing windows or reorganizing tab groups, save the links somewhere durable, such as s, a text file, a bookmarks folder, or your preferred read-it-later app. For large sets of tabs, review the list first so you do not accidentally share private, duplicate, or expired links.
