To copy photos from a Samsung Galaxy phone to a Windows PC, connect it with a data-capable USB cable, allow access on the phone, choose Transferring files/Android Auto if prompted, then copy images from Internal storage > DCIM > Camera in File Explorer. The exact prompts can vary by model, region, and software version.
Copy photos with a USB cable
Samsung’s Australia support guide, updated October 7, 2026, documents these steps for Australian-variant devices. Use a USB-C to USB-C or USB-A to USB-C cable that supports data transfer; some cables charge a phone but cannot transfer files. Samsung’s USB file-transfer guide

- Connect the phone directly to a USB port on the PC.
- If the phone displays a prompt asking to allow access to phone data, tap Allow.
- If there is no prompt, open the phone’s notification panel, tap the USB notification, and select Transferring files/Android Auto.
- On the PC, open File Explorer and select the phone.
- Open Internal storage > DCIM > Camera. Select the photos you want, then copy or drag them into a folder on the PC.
- Wait for the copy to finish before disconnecting the phone.
Find photos saved outside the Camera folder
Images shown in Gallery may be downloads or files shared by an app rather than camera shots, so they may not be in DCIM > Camera. In Gallery, open the image’s details to check its storage path, then follow that path in the phone’s internal storage. Samsung gives Download/Quick Share as one example of a different location. Choose a different transfer method if USB is not a fit

Fix common connection problems
The phone charges but does not appear in File Explorer
- Try a different cable that supports data transfer; charging alone does not confirm that a cable can transfer files.
- Connect directly to a PC USB port rather than through a hub.

No access prompt appears
Open the phone’s notification panel, tap the USB notification, and choose Transferring files/Android Auto. The notification and available labels can differ across Galaxy models and software versions.
You need only recent images
Link to Windows and Phone Link may be more convenient for viewing recent photos and videos, while USB and File Explorer let you choose files from phone storage. Samsung says Phone Link can display up to 2,000 recent items; its availability and menus depend on device, region, software version, and work-device policies.
