For a simple morning routine, set and verify each person’s alarm separately. Use a shared-alarm app only after checking recipient approval, repeat schedules, connectivity requirements, permissions and privacy terms. If a parent needs to edit a child’s alarm from another phone, evaluate a family remote-alarm app and test it on the actual devices before depending on it.

What “family alarm across phones” can mean
Families usually mean one of three things when they search for a “shared alarm clock app”:
- Independent alarms: everyone wakes at a planned time, but each person owns and maintains the alarm on their own phone.
- Shared group alarm: one sender distributes an alarm to friends or a group, with each recipient receiving it on their phone.
- Parent-managed alarm: a parent sets or edits a child’s alarm from another phone and may receive a wake-up status.
These are different products and workflows. A normal Clock alarm is local to the phone where it was created. A family app adds an account, invitation or permission layer that must work on every participating device.

An anecdotal Reddit discussion uses the exact phrase “Shared alarm clock app?” and asks about sharing an alarm between an iPhone and an Android phone. That wording reflects one person’s need, not a usage statistic or proof that any particular app works reliably. See the discussion on Reddit for the original context.
Option 1: set an alarm separately on every phone
This is the least complicated and easiest arrangement to audit. It does not synchronize changes: if the schedule changes, someone must update every device.
iPhone: create and repeat a Clock alarm
Apple’s instructions for setting an alarm in Clock on iPhone describe creating an alarm for a specific time and selecting repeat days. On each family member’s iPhone:
Recommended Free Tools
- Open the Clock app and select Alarms.
- Tap the add button, choose the time, and select the days under Repeat if it is a weekday or recurring alarm.
- Choose the sound, enable or disable snooze as appropriate, then save the alarm.
- Return to the alarm list and confirm that the switch is on, the time uses the intended AM or PM, and the repeat days are correct.
Apple also documents a wake-up alarm as part of a sleep schedule in Health. That is a separate feature: Apple explicitly says, “Any alarm you set up in Clock is unrelated to a sleep schedule.” Do not assume changing a Health sleep schedule will change a regular Clock alarm, or vice versa.

Android: create and repeat a Clock alarm
Google Clock Help says users can make and change alarms in the Clock app on an Android device, Pixel phone or Pixel Tablet. The documented controls include setting, repeating, switching off and deleting alarms on that device. For each Android phone:
- Open Clock and go to Alarm.
- Add an alarm, select the time and choose the days for a repeating schedule.
- Set the alarm sound and vibration, then save it.
- Check the alarm list to ensure it is enabled and that the phone’s alarm volume is audible.
Google’s help page does not describe synchronizing a built-in alarm to other family phones. Treat every phone as a separate alarm unless a separate service explicitly provides cross-device sharing.
Make the local setup auditable
Use one short checklist after every schedule change:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Time and AM/PM designation are correct.
- Repeat days match the family timetable.
- The alarm is switched on.
- Sound, vibration and alarm volume are suitable for that sleeper.
- The phone has enough charge and will be in a place where the alarm can be heard.
Ask each person to read their own alarm back to the person coordinating the schedule. This catches a missed repeat day without requiring a shared account.

Option 2: use a shared group-alarm app
A shared group-alarm app is intended for one person to distribute an alarm to several recipients. The Google Play listing for SynClock: Shared Alarm Clock says users can send an alarm to friends or a group, supports one-time and recurring schedules, and requires a recipient to accept a shared alarm before it rings for that recipient. The listing also uses the wording, “Nobody gets woken up by surprise: shared alarms only ring after you accept them.” That is promotional listing language, not an independent reliability test.
Before inviting the family
Confirm these points in the current store listing and in the app’s own screens:
- Every family member’s operating system is supported.
- Recipients can see who sent the alarm and the exact time and repeat days.
- An invitee must accept before the alarm becomes active, and there is a clear way to decline or leave.
- Recurring schedules can be edited without accidentally creating a second alarm.
- The app explains what happens when a phone is offline, notifications are restricted or the account is signed out.
- Permissions, privacy disclosures and any subscription or paid features fit the family’s requirements.
A cautious setup sequence
- Install the same app from the official store on the sender’s phone and each recipient’s phone.
- Create accounts or profiles using identifiers the family can recognize, avoiding a shared password where individual accounts are available.
- Send a test one-time alarm several minutes in the future rather than beginning with the important morning schedule.
- Have every recipient accept the test and verify that it appears as an active alarm on their own phone.
- Confirm the local sound, vibration and notification permissions on each device.
- After the test succeeds, create the recurring schedule and read the days and time aloud to the group.
- Change or cancel the schedule from the sender’s device, then verify that every recipient sees the same update.
The listing establishes the acceptance model and recurring-alarm claim; it does not establish how the service behaves during every connectivity, battery or notification failure. Keep a local backup alarm for important mornings until the family has observed the app over its own devices and routine.
Option 3: manage a child’s alarm from a parent’s phone
A parent-managed alarm is narrower than a group alarm. The Google Play listing for WeWake: Family Alarm Clock says a parent can set and edit a child’s alarm remotely and receive wake-up status. Those are developer claims in a store listing. The listing does not establish every child-side control, supported phone combination or failure behavior, so confirm the current version before adoption.

Questions to answer before setup
- Which parent and child operating systems and versions are supported?
- Does the child have to accept each alarm, or can the parent apply it directly?
- Can the child change or disable an alarm locally?
- What status is reported: an acknowledgement, an in-app check-in or something else?
- What information is collected, how is it shared, and how can an account be deleted?
- What happens if the child’s phone is offline, powered down or has notifications limited?
- Are any features or status reports paid?
Test parent control without relying on it
- Install the parent and child components on the actual phones that will be used.
- Pair the accounts using the app’s documented invitation flow and review every permission request.
- Set a test alarm for a near-term time, then edit it from the parent phone.
- Check the child phone for the updated time and verify the child can identify the alarm.
- Run the wake-up-status flow once and confirm what the parent receives.
- Repeat the test after temporarily disabling connectivity only if the app explains an offline mode; otherwise do not infer that it will work offline.
Remote control should support a child’s routine, not replace a conversation about the schedule. Give the child a clear way to see tomorrow’s alarm and to report a problem.

How to choose the right arrangement
Choose separate built-in alarms when
- Everyone can maintain their own phone.
- The schedule changes infrequently.
- You want the fewest accounts, permissions and network dependencies.
- Different family members need different sounds, snooze settings or wake times.
Choose a shared group alarm when
- One person regularly announces the same wake-up time to several people.
- Recipients need to approve an alarm before it becomes active.
- You accept that the service’s behavior must be verified on every phone.
Consider a parent-managed app when
- A parent needs to edit a child’s alarm without handling the child’s phone.
- A wake-up status is useful to the family.
- The household is comfortable reviewing permissions, privacy terms and account controls.
Do not buy a standalone alarm clock expecting it to synchronize phone alarms. The documented solutions for this use case are phone settings and software apps; the cited material does not establish that a separate hardware clock will coordinate the phones.
A reliable rollout for a family schedule
- Write the schedule first. List each person, wake time, repeat days, time zone and any different weekend setting.
- Pick the simplest model. Use local alarms unless central control solves a real problem.
- Configure one phone at a time. Read the time, repeat days, sound and volume from the device rather than relying on memory.
- Run a short test. For an app, send a one-time alarm; for local alarms, set a near-term alarm and confirm it sounds.
- Verify every recipient. Shared schedules are not complete until each phone shows an active alarm or the app reports a successful setup.
- Keep a backup for high-stakes mornings. A second local alarm on the sleeper’s own phone is a sensible safeguard while an app’s behavior is still unfamiliar.
- Review after changes. When school, work or travel schedules change, update the source schedule and inspect each device for stale alarms.
Troubleshooting common failures
The alarm appears on one phone but not another
Check whether the recipient accepted the shared alarm, whether the invitation went to the correct account and whether the app shows the alarm as active on that recipient’s device. If the service does not show a clear state, create a test alarm and use separate local alarms until the discrepancy is resolved.

On the affected phone, inspect the alarm sound, vibration setting and alarm-volume control. Confirm that the phone is not placed where the sound will be blocked. Test with a near-term alarm instead of waiting for the next morning.
Best Value
A recurring alarm has the wrong days
Open the alarm itself and check every selected day. Do not assume a one-time alarm became recurring, or that editing one occurrence changed the entire series. For shared apps, verify the edited schedule on both sender and recipient screens.
A parent changed a child’s alarm, but the child still sees the old time
Check the child account pairing and the app’s displayed last-update state. Have the child open the app while connected, then send a short test alarm. Until the new time is visible on the child’s phone, maintain a local alarm there.
The family is crossing time zones
Before travel, agree whether the wake-up time is local to each phone or tied to the family’s home time zone. Recheck the displayed time after the phone changes location or time-zone settings; do not rely on a remembered clock time.

Built-in alarms require no family account because each device owner manages their own Clock app. Shared and parent-managed services may involve accounts, contact or invitation data, notifications and status information. Read the current privacy policy and store disclosures before enrolling children.
- Use individual accounts where possible instead of sharing one password.
- Grant only permissions that the app explains.
- Review who can send, edit, accept or cancel alarms.
- Understand how wake-up status is displayed and who can see it.
- Know how to revoke an invitation and delete an account.
Store listings change. Recheck compatibility, pricing, permissions and feature descriptions immediately before deployment, especially after an operating-system update.
Bottom line for a “shared alarm clock app”
For most families, separate iPhone or Android alarms are the most transparent solution: each sleeper can see and test their own alarm. A shared group app can centralize a schedule, but recipient acceptance and delivery conditions must be verified on the actual phones. A parent-managed app may fit a parent–child routine when remote editing and wake-up status are worth the additional account and privacy considerations. Whichever model you choose, test it before an important morning and keep a local fallback until you trust the setup.
