Open Spotlight, enter an amount or measurement, and add a target currency or unit when you want to specify the result. Apple documents currency information in Spotlight on iPhone and iPad; unit conversions are also commonly entered as search queries, though Apple’s cited guides do not guarantee every query pattern on every device or locale. If Spotlight does not show the conversion you need, use the built-in Calculator app’s Convert mode.

Open Search by tapping the Search button on a Home Screen model that has one. Otherwise, swipe down from the middle of the Home Screen or Lock Screen.

Look at the suggested result in Search. For currencies, an unspecified target may be based on your device’s regional settings, according to the how-to guidance from MacRumors. To change the region, go to Settings > General > Language & Region. Results and query interpretation may differ by region or iOS version.

Apple’s iPhone guide confirms that Spotlight can provide currency information: “You can check stock and currency information, and find and open webpages, apps, and images in your photo library, across your system, and on the web.” See Search with Spotlight on iPhone.

Enter an amount and, if desired, a target. Examples include

Check the results for the conversion. Apple’s iPad guide documents currency information in Spotlight; it does not list specific unit-conversion commands. See Search with Spotlight on iPad.

Use Calculator if Spotlight does not return the conversion
Calculator provides a dedicated Convert mode on both iPhone and iPad. It is a useful fallback when Spotlight does not interpret a query as intended, or when you want to choose the conversion category and units directly.

Open the Calculator app.

Choose Change Mode > Convert.

Select the relevant unit or currency categories and the source and target values, then enter the amount.

Check Search settings. iPhone and iPad let you include or exclude apps from Search; iPad also provides controls for app content. If you are trying to find app content rather than a conversion, check whether the app supports Spotlight indexing.

Use Calculator Convert mode. It lets you select the conversion rather than relying on Spotlight to interpret the wording.
Apple’s Spotlight guides confirm currency lookup and describe Search settings, but do not specify live exchange-rate timing, precision, or support for every currency and unit. Do not assume identical results across locales or software versions.
