The PDF’s appearance depends on print CSS, loaded fonts and images, page settings, and whether dynamic content has finished rendering.
Convert pasted HTML to PDF with a browser
This is the quickest no-install route for a one-off document. A browser prints the rendered page, not the source code, so raw markup must be opened in an HTML preview or saved as an HTML file first.
- Paste the HTML into an online editor or a local text editor and render it as a page. If using a local file, save it with an
.htmlextension and open it in Chrome. - Open the rendered page and choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. Chrome’s desktop help documents this workflow: print from Chrome on desktop.
- In the print dialog, set the destination to Save as PDF. Choose paper size, portrait or landscape layout, margins, and scale. Turn on background graphics if the page’s colors or backgrounds matter.
- Save the PDF, open it, and check page breaks, text clipping, images, fonts, and tables before sharing it.
On Android Chrome, use More > Share > Print, select Save as PDF, choose where to save it, then tap Print. See Google’s Android Chrome print instructions.
When to use a converter that accepts raw HTML
If you want to submit markup itself rather than first render it in a browser, choose a hosted service whose API explicitly accepts raw HTML. For example, HTML2PDF.app’s documentation describes an authenticated POST request with an html field for raw markup or a publicly reachable URL; a successful conversion returns PDF data. HTML2PDF.co.uk’s API documentation describes URL-encoded raw HTML and options including paper size, orientation, margins, print or screen CSS media, and waiting for lazy-loaded content.

A request body may have this general shape, but it is not a complete request for either provider: each service has its own endpoint, authentication method, limits, and parameters.

}Check the provider’s current documentation for the actual endpoint and required fields. The PDF is usually returned as binary data, so an API client or backend must save or stream the response as a PDF rather than treat it as ordinary text. Before sending sensitive content, review the service’s data-retention terms. HTML2PDF.app specifically warns against exposing API keys in browser JavaScript, public repositories, or client-side templates: keep credentials in a server-side environment or trusted job.
Make the PDF match the page you intended
Choose the right CSS media
Web pages may define separate rules for screens and print. Print CSS can hide navigation, change colors, and prevent headings or cards from splitting across pages. If a hosted converter offers a choice between print and screen media, select the one that matches the intended result. For your own markup, a rule such as break-inside: avoid can help keep a short card or table row together, though it cannot guarantee that a large element will fit on a page.

Set page geometry before saving
Choose A4 or Letter, orientation, margins, and scale in the print dialog or converter. Wide tables and code samples may need landscape orientation or smaller margins. Scaling everything down can prevent clipping but make text hard to read, so inspect the output rather than assuming the preview is acceptable.
Load assets and dynamic content
Fonts, images, and stylesheets must be available to the renderer. A remote converter may be unable to access a local file, a blocked cross-origin resource, or an asset that requires your browser’s logged-in session. JavaScript-rendered charts and lazy-loaded images may also need time to appear; use a converter’s wait or delay option where available, or ensure the content is present before printing.
Check page breaks
Long tables, code blocks, and multi-part cards can split awkwardly. Preview the pages and look for clipped content, blank pages, broken links or missing images. Adjust the CSS or page geometry, then export again. Test representative long pages when converting a batch or building an automated workflow.

Do not send untrusted or confidential markup blindly
Pasted HTML can contain scripts, external resource references, or information you did not intend to disclose. Treat unknown markup as untrusted: inspect it before opening or submitting it, and do not include secrets in source code. When using an online converter, consider what HTML and linked assets its servers must receive, and check the provider’s retention and data-handling terms before sending confidential material.
Other ways to automate HTML-to-PDF conversion
Browser-side JavaScript
html2pdf.js documents a browser-only workflow that accepts an HTML string or element and calls .from(...).to(...).save(). It can avoid uploading the document to a conversion service, but the output still depends on browser rendering and the assets available to that page.

This can suit an application that needs conversion in its own Python workflow; check the library’s documentation for supported HTML and CSS behavior before relying on complex page layouts.

Hosted API
A hosted API is useful when a backend needs repeatable conversions, authenticated requests, or a managed workflow. Compare services on raw-HTML input, CSS and JavaScript rendering, print-media support, page controls, external assets, privacy and retention, limits, authentication, and the handling of returned PDF bytes.

Troubleshoot common PDF problems
