HTML to PNG

How to Convert HTML to PNG with Power Automate

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a page already open in a browser, Power Automate for desktop can capture the entire web page or a selected element and save it as PNG. For HTML data or a hosted URL in a cloud flow, use a connector that renders HTML or takes a website screenshot: Encodian documents HTML-to-image conversion, while CloudConvert documents URL-based screenshots in PNG. The right route depends on whether your input is raw HTML, a URL, or an already-rendered page.

Choose a route for your input

Your starting point Route What to check
A page currently displayed in a browser Power Automate for desktop: Take screenshot of web page Choose the entire page or a specific element, then select PNG and a file or clipboard destination. The page must be displayed in the browser instance used by the action.
HTML data, an HTML file, or a URL in a cloud flow Encodian: Convert – HTML to Image The connector documents these input types and rendering controls. Confirm that PNG is currently selectable in the action schema, and check subscription, limits, and data handling.
A hosted website URL in a cloud flow CloudConvert: Create Website Screenshot The action documents PNG, PDF, or JPG output. It is URL-based; the documentation does not establish support for arbitrary raw HTML input.
HTML or a URL, with JPEG acceptable Power2Apps: Convert HTML or URL to JPG Image The documented output is JPG/JPEG, not PNG.

OneDrive’s Convert file actions do not establish HTML-to-PNG support in the reviewed documentation. Check Microsoft’s supported-conversions list for the exact input and output types rather than assuming an HTML file can be converted by uploading it to OneDrive.

These capabilities and licensing references were accessed on September 29, 2026. Connector operations, formats, regional availability, limits, and plan terms can change, so verify the current action schema and terms in your own tenant before building a production flow.

Capture a rendered page with Power Automate for desktop

This is the clearest built-in route when a page is already rendered in a browser. The screenshot action captures what is currently displayed; it does not take an HTML string and render it by itself. If your input is raw HTML, first make it available to the browser—for example, as a local HTML file—or navigate to a hosted page, then capture the displayed result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
#1 Best Overall
  1. Open the page in the flow’s browser instance. Add the browser launch or navigation steps needed to load the website or HTML file you want to capture. Make sure the screenshot action will operate on that same browser instance.
  2. Wait for the content you need. Add an appropriate wait before capturing. A fixed delay may be enough for a simple page; dynamic pages may need an application-specific check that the important content is visible. The screenshot reference does not prescribe a wait duration or guarantee that scripts, fonts, and remote images have finished loading.
  3. Add the screenshot action. In Power Automate for desktop, use Take screenshot of web page. Select Entire web page to capture the page or Specific element when only one page element is needed. Configure the browser instance and the file destination if you want an output file.
  4. Select PNG and run the flow. The action lists PNG among its file formats. It can also save the image to the clipboard instead of a file.
  5. Inspect a representative output. Check that the dimensions and visible content suit the next step in your workflow. Test pages with the same kind of dynamic content and layout as the pages you will process regularly.

When this route fits

  • You can run a desktop flow in an environment with access to the page and browser.
  • The target is a rendered page or element, not an unrendered HTML string that must be submitted directly to a cloud action.
  • You need the built-in screenshot action’s PNG output without relying on a third-party cloud connector.

What can affect the result

  • Page readiness: if capture begins before content appears, the image may omit it. Choose and validate a wait suitable for the site.
  • Browser state: the action takes a screenshot of the page displayed in its browser instance; opening a page in a different browser instance does not satisfy that requirement.
  • Remote content: images, fonts, and scripts can load later than the initial page. Confirm their appearance in the output rather than assuming a page-load event means every asset is ready.

Convert HTML or a URL in a cloud flow with Encodian

Encodian’s Convert – HTML to Image action is the most directly documented cloud-connector option here for supplied HTML as well as URLs. Its reference describes HTML file content, HTML data, or a URL as inputs and lists controls for image width and height, CSS type, decoding HTML data, JavaScript, and a delay in milliseconds to allow JavaScript to load.

  1. Add the Encodian action to the cloud flow and provide the relevant input: HTML file content, HTML data, or a URL, as appropriate to the action schema in your tenant.
  2. Set the rendering options deliberately. Set width and height to suit the intended image, choose a CSS type if the action offers one relevant to your HTML, and enable JavaScript if the page depends on it. Use the decode-HTML-data option when the supplied data needs decoding.
  3. Set a render delay where needed. The action documents a delay in milliseconds to allow JavaScript to load. Treat it as a rendering control, not a guarantee that every external resource has finished loading; validate output with representative pages.
  4. Confirm the output format and downstream handling. The reference describes conversion to an image of a specified format, but verify that PNG is available in the current connector action and that the returned output is handled as an image by the next step.

An Encodian subscription is required according to its general connector reference. That reference describes a 30-day trial followed by transition to the Free subscription tier unless a paid plan has been purchased. This does not establish current free-tier volume, feature availability, or pricing; review the service’s current plan terms before relying on a tier for ongoing use.

Take a URL screenshot in a cloud flow with CloudConvert

Microsoft’s CloudConvert connector reference documents Create Website Screenshot for a URL, with PDF, PNG, or JPG output. This suits a hosted web page when the flow should run in the cloud. It does not establish raw HTML markup as an accepted screenshot input, so use an HTML-to-image route instead when you need to submit arbitrary HTML directly.

  1. Add the CloudConvert Create Website Screenshot action to your flow and supply the hosted page URL.
  2. Choose PNG as the output format and configure the remaining options exposed by the connector for the capture you need.
  3. Connect using a CloudConvert account, then pass the resulting image data or file to the next flow action.

The Microsoft connector listing classifies CloudConvert as Premium and says a free or paid CloudConvert account is required to connect. It lists a throttle of 100 calls per connection per 60 seconds. Its 10 MB maximum input-file size is specified for file conversion; do not treat that figure as a documented limit for website screenshot size or URL length. Check current service limits and privacy terms before sending sensitive page URLs or content to an external service.

When a JPG connector or OneDrive is not a PNG solution

Power2Apps

The current Microsoft-listed operation is Convert HTML or URL to JPG Image. It accepts HTML content or a URL and lists width and height parameters with defaults of 500 pixels, returning an image response. Because the documented format is JPG/JPEG, it does not meet a requirement for PNG. Microsoft’s listing also marks earlier operations as deprecated; use the currently listed operation rather than copying an old action name from a tutorial.

OneDrive

OneDrive provides Convert file (Preview) and Convert file using path (Preview), alongside Microsoft’s supported-conversions list. The connector reference does not identify HTML-to-PNG as a supported conversion. Confirm the exact supported type pair before designing a flow around either action.

Check licensing before choosing a cloud route

Microsoft’s licensing guidance distinguishes standard and premium connector entitlements. Its Free license can create cloud flows with standard connectors, while Power Automate Premium includes premium connectors and desktop-flow capabilities. Exact entitlement can depend on the flow and connector context, so your organization’s current licensing guide and tenant configuration determine what you can run.

CloudConvert is explicitly classified as Premium in Microsoft’s connector listing. Microsoft’s desktop cloud-connector guidance says premium connectors in desktop flows require an Attended RPA license; a free work or school account can access standard connectors. The desktop browser screenshot action described above is separate from using CloudConvert’s premium connector.

Or skip the browser setup

If the input is a hosted page URL and you want a direct screenshot request instead of configuring a browser flow, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. This is for capturing a URL; it is not a claim that the endpoint accepts arbitrary raw HTML markup. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

Troubleshooting the flow

  • The PNG is blank or missing page content: the capture may have happened before the content was visible, or the screenshot action may be attached to the wrong browser instance. Confirm the displayed page and adjust the flow’s wait or readiness check.
  • An HTML string does not work with the desktop screenshot action: that action captures a page displayed in a browser; it is not itself an HTML renderer. Open or navigate the HTML in the flow’s browser before capturing.
  • Encodian returns an unexpected format or image size: check the current action schema for the available output format and inspect the configured width and height. The connector reference does not establish that PNG is available in every current configuration.
  • JavaScript-generated content is absent: check whether JavaScript is enabled in the Encodian action and whether its delay is appropriate. For a desktop capture, wait until the required content is actually visible.
  • CloudConvert cannot connect or run: verify the connected CloudConvert account and the flow’s Premium connector entitlement. If calls are throttled, reduce request rate or schedule work to remain within the listed 100 calls per connection per 60 seconds.
  • A JPG appears where PNG is required: Power2Apps’ documented operation outputs JPG/JPEG. Use a PNG-capable route rather than relying on an extension change to convert the image.
  • A OneDrive conversion fails for HTML: check Microsoft’s supported-conversions list for HTML-to-PNG specifically; the reviewed connector description does not establish that conversion pair.

Performance, reliability, and cost considerations

For a desktop flow, rendering is tied to the browser and page state in the machine running the flow. Waiting for content improves the chance of capturing the intended state, but excessive fixed delays slow each run; validate a page-specific readiness check where practical. No measured run time or reliability rate is established for these routes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cloud rendering avoids requiring the page to be open in a local browser, but introduces connector entitlements, external-service accounts, and service-specific data handling and limits. For Encodian, confirm current subscription and output-format terms. For CloudConvert, account for its Premium connector status and published connection throttle. Do not send sensitive URLs or HTML to a third-party service without checking the applicable privacy and organizational requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Power Automate for desktop save a page screenshot directly to the clipboard?

Yes. The documented screenshot action can save to the clipboard as well as to a file.

Does CloudConvert’s 10 MB limit apply to website screenshots?

The connector reference states the 10 MB maximum for file conversion, not website screenshots, so it should not be applied to URL captures without a separate documented limit.
