The most dependable way to convert a webpage (HTML) to a PDF on an iPad is Safari’s built-in Share and Markup workflow: open the page, tap Share, choose More > Markup, tap Done, select Save File To, choose a folder in Files, and tap Save. No converter app or subscription is required.
Convert a webpage to PDF in Safari
Safari can turn the page currently open in the browser into a PDF and save it directly to the Files app. Let the page finish loading first, particularly if it contains images, charts, or content that appears after a short delay.
- Open the HTML page in Safari. Enter its web address or open the link from another app.
- Tap Share. The icon is the square with an upward arrow.
- Tap More, then Markup. If Markup is not visible in the first row, swipe through the actions and select it from More.
- Review or annotate the PDF. Markup is optional. You can highlight, draw, or write notes before saving.
- Tap Done. Safari prepares the marked-up webpage as a PDF.
- Choose Save File To. Select a location in Files, such as On My iPad or iCloud Drive.
- Enter a filename and tap Save. Open Files and verify that the new document has a .pdf extension.
Apple Support describes this capability by saying: “You can mark up a webpage, highlight your favorite parts, draw and write notes, and share your document as a PDF with others.” Markup does not have to be used; it is the route Safari uses to create the shareable PDF.
Use the alternate PDF option when it appears
Some iPad interfaces show another route in the Share sheet. Tap Options, select PDF, tap Done, then choose Save to Files and select a destination. This menu is not presented identically in every context, so use the Safari Markup sequence when the PDF option is missing.

Find, rename, and share the saved file
Open Files and browse to the folder selected during saving. Touch and hold the document to rename it, move it, duplicate it, or share it. Renaming before you save is usually faster because Safari asks for the filename in the Save File To dialog.
What Safari’s PDF contains—and what to check
The result is a static document, not a second copy of the live website. Links may remain clickable, but interactive controls, video players, log-in sessions, animations, and content that depends on later network requests may not behave inside the PDF.
- Scroll through every page in Files or a PDF reader.
- Check that images, tables, code blocks, and headings are present.
- Look for missing sections caused by lazy loading or an unfinished page load.
- Confirm that the page break did not split a table or heading awkwardly.
- Open the file’s details to confirm its size and .pdf format.
Apple’s documented procedure explains how to save the document, but it does not promise identical rendering for every website. Checking the saved file is especially important for dynamic or interactive pages.
Chrome on iPad: print instead of directly saving
Chrome’s official iPad instructions document an AirPrint workflow rather than a direct “save as PDF” command:
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Tap Share.
- Tap View more.
- Choose Print.
- Select a printer and print settings, then tap Print.
If your goal is a PDF stored in Files, open the same address in Safari and use Share > More > Markup > Done > Save File To. Chrome’s documented flow is appropriate when you intend to send the page to an AirPrint printer, but it does not itself document a direct local PDF save.

Practical tips for cleaner PDFs
Wait for the page to finish loading
Do not start the Share workflow while a page is still filling in images or text. Scroll through the page once, wait for visible placeholders to resolve, and then create the PDF. This reduces the chance of capturing an incomplete layout, although it cannot guarantee that every script-generated element will be included.
Prepare long pages
Long articles can produce many PDF pages. Close overlays, expand only the sections you need, and remove irrelevant query strings from the address when possible. After saving, inspect the first, middle, and final pages instead of assuming a long document rendered correctly.
Keep storage and naming predictable
Use a descriptive filename such as project-specification-2026-09-30.pdf. Saving to a dedicated Files folder makes later sharing and backup easier. If iCloud Drive is unavailable temporarily, choose On My iPad and move the file later.

Safari is ideal for a one-off public webpage. Markup is missing from the Share sheet
Tap More and look through the available actions. If the action still does not appear, use the Share sheet’s Options > PDF route when available, or reopen the page in Safari rather than an in-app browser.
The PDF is blank or missing images
Return to the webpage, wait for loading to finish, and scroll through the content before repeating the capture. A script, blocked resource, login requirement, or network interruption can prevent content from appearing. Always inspect the saved file before sending it.

The page looks different from Safari
Browser engines, responsive breakpoints, cookie choices, and dynamic scripts can change the layout. Capture from the browser in which the page displays correctly, and treat the PDF as a snapshot rather than a guaranteed reproduction of every live interaction.
The PDF is too large to share

Chrome opens a printer dialog but no PDF save option
That is consistent with Chrome’s documented iPad flow. Cancel the print job, open the URL in Safari, and use the Markup PDF workflow for a local file.
