For one webpage, open it in Chrome, press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on macOS), choose “Save to PDF,” adjust the page settings, and save. This built-in method is free and usually takes less than a minute. If you need several linked pages, a complete site, repeatable automation, or cleaner handling of cookie banners and dynamic content, use Acrobat’s web-page tools or a screenshot/PDF API instead.
Convert one webpage to PDF with your browser
Browser printing is the simplest online answer because it requires no upload service or account. It captures the page as your browser has rendered it, so wait for important content and images to appear before saving.
- Open the exact URL you want to archive. Sign in first if the page is private and you are authorized to save it.
- Wait for the page to finish loading. Scroll through long pages if images or text load lazily. Expand accordions that must appear in the PDF.
- Open Print. In Chrome on Windows or Linux press
Ctrl+P; on macOS pressCmd+P. You can also use the three-dot menu and choose Print. - Choose the PDF destination. Select Save to PDF (or your operating system’s PDF printer).
- Set the layout. Choose portrait or landscape, paper size, margins, scale, page range, and whether to include background graphics. Use More settings for headers and footers, paper size, and background images.
- Save and inspect the file. Open the PDF and check the first, middle, and final pages, especially tables, code blocks, images, and columns.
Settings that prevent common layout problems
- Landscape: Use it for wide tables, dashboards, and two-column pages.
- Scale: Reduce it slightly when a right-hand column is clipped; increase it only if text remains readable.
- Margins: Default or minimum margins generally preserve more content than large margins.
- Background graphics: Enable this when color panels, charts, or dark sections are part of the information.
- Page range: Select specific pages when advertisements, navigation, or unrelated sections should not be included.
- Headers and footers: Disable them for a cleaner document unless the URL and date are useful for provenance.
Convert a page or selection with Acrobat’s browser extension
Adobe’s Acrobat extension adds a Convert to PDF command in supported browsers. After installing and signing in as required by your Acrobat edition, open the page, select the extension, choose Convert to PDF, name the file, and save it. Depending on the page and extension version, you can convert the full HTML page or a selected portion.
Use this route when you want a browser-integrated workflow rather than the operating system print dialog. It is still a rendered-page conversion: menus, animated content, login walls, and script-generated sections may not behave like static document text.
Turn multiple pages or an entire website into one PDF with Acrobat desktop
A whole-site PDF is different from saving one page. Acrobat desktop can crawl from a starting URL, follow links to a chosen depth, or retrieve the entire site. It also provides controls for same-path and same-server limits so a crawl does not unexpectedly leave the intended area.

- Open Acrobat desktop and choose Create > Web page.
- Enter the starting URL (or select an HTML file).
- Choose the crawl depth, or select Get entire site when that is appropriate.
- Optionally restrict retrieval to the same path or same server.
- Open the advanced settings and choose the options your document needs.
- Create the PDF, then review the page count, link destinations, images, and section order.
Controls worth checking
Acrobat documents options for bookmarks, PDF tags, headers and footers, encoding, colors, multimedia, images, links, scrollable blocks, page size, orientation, margins, and scaling. These controls matter when a site contains nested navigation, wide data tables, or content inside scrollable panels. A crawl can also encounter duplicate URLs, calendar parameters, infinite feeds, robots restrictions, authentication, or links to external domains; limit the path/server and depth to keep the result bounded.
Why a PDF may not match the webpage
- Responsive breakpoints: The print viewport can trigger a different layout from your monitor.
- Lazy loading: Images or text that load only after scrolling may be absent unless you trigger them first.
- Scrollable blocks: A fixed-height code or data panel may print only its visible portion. Look for a scrollable-block setting in Acrobat or expand the content on the page.
- Sticky navigation and popups: Fixed headers, cookie notices, newsletters, and chat widgets can cover content or repeat on every page.
- Canvas and video: A video usually becomes a still frame or blank area; interactive charts may not preserve their controls.
- Fonts and blocked resources: Privacy extensions, authentication, content-security rules, or a failed font request can change wrapping and pagination.
- Cross-origin or protected pages: A browser can save only what your session is permitted to view. Do not attempt to bypass access controls.
Automate HTML or URL-to-PDF conversion
For an application pipeline, use a document-conversion API rather than manually printing. Adobe PDF Services documents REST and language interfaces for static or dynamic HTML, ZIP packages, and URL inputs. An automated pipeline should define a wait condition, viewport, paper size, margins, authentication method, timeout, and a policy for failed or incomplete pages. Store the source URL and capture time with the resulting file so readers can distinguish an archive from a live page.
Design an automation job
- Normalize the input: remove tracking parameters when they are not needed, but retain parameters that select the actual article or language.
- Authenticate explicitly: send cookies, headers, or an authorization token through the supported API mechanism; never embed secrets in a public URL.
- Wait for readiness: use a selector, a delay, or network-idle condition for client-rendered pages.
- Choose document geometry: set paper, orientation, margins, scale, and page ranges before generating the PDF.
- Validate output: check HTTP status, file type, page count, text extractability, and a few rendered pages.
- Retry safely: use bounded retries with backoff for transient network failures, while treating authentication errors and bot challenges as terminal until corrected.

The PDF is blank or shows a bot-check page
Confirm the URL works in a normal browser, complete any legitimate sign-in, and disable extensions that block required scripts. For automated capture, treat bot checks as a failed render rather than a valid document; ScreenshotNeo identifies these outcomes and does not bill them.
Images or text are missing
Scroll through the page first, wait for network activity to settle, and retry with a selector or delay wait. Check that the source server is not returning different content to print or headless browsers.

Columns or tables are clipped
Retry in landscape, reduce scale, use smaller margins, or select a larger paper size. For a single element, capture the table separately with a CSS selector and combine the files afterward.

A long page breaks in the wrong places
Set explicit page ranges and margins, remove fixed-position overlays, and test a print stylesheet if you control the site. A PDF renderer cannot always infer ideal breaks from a complex responsive layout.
The whole-site job never finishes
Limit crawl depth and same-server/path scope, exclude query-string variants, and check for infinite calendars or feeds. Split a large site into bounded batches and record each URL’s result.

Can I convert a website to PDF without installing software?
Yes. Use your browser’s Print dialog and select Save to PDF. This is appropriate for a single page; whole-site crawling and automation need a desktop or API workflow.
Will links in the webpage remain clickable?
Often, browser and Acrobat conversions preserve ordinary hyperlinks, but script-generated controls and interactive widgets are not guaranteed to remain functional. Verify important links in the finished file.
How do I save only part of a webpage?
Use the browser print selection when available, select a page range, or use Acrobat’s browser extension to convert a selected portion. For repeatable element capture, target a CSS selector in an API.
Is a whole website really one PDF?
It can be, but the result is a crawl of reachable pages from a starting URL, not a guarantee that every page, private area, external domain, or dynamically generated route is included. Set depth and scope deliberately.
