To convert a webpage to JPEG, capture the page as a rendered screenshot and choose JPEG/JPG as the output format. Use a visible-area capture for what is currently on screen, or a full-page capture for content below the fold. Firefox’s built-in Screenshot feature can save visible or complete pages as image files, while a Chrome extension such as Page to Image explicitly advertises PNG and JPEG export.
What “convert a webpage to JPEG” actually means
A JPEG webpage image is a raster capture of the page after the browser renders its HTML, CSS, fonts, images and scripts. It is not the same as saving the page source or downloading one image from it.
- Screenshot or capture: produces an image of the rendered layout. This is the correct workflow for a webpage JPEG.
- Save webpage: stores HTML and supporting files for offline use. Firefox distinguishes “Web page, complete” from “Web page, HTML only”; neither is a JPEG. See Mozilla’s save-page instructions.
- Print to PDF: creates a document from print preview. Firefox documents “Save to PDF,” but that is not direct JPEG export; converting the PDF to JPEG is a separate operation. See Firefox printing help and Microsoft Edge printing help.
- Save one embedded image: if you only need a photograph or graphic, open or right-click that image and save it instead of capturing the whole layout.
Choose the capture scope before you start
Visible-area JPEG
Choose a viewport capture when you need exactly what the browser window currently shows: a bug report, a social post, a chart, or a design review. Browser zoom, window size, and device-pixel density affect the result.
Full-page JPEG
Choose full-page capture when the image must include content below the fold, such as a landing page, article, documentation page or receipt. Full-page tools may stitch several viewport renders, and dynamic pages can change while they are being captured. Let lazy-loaded images and animations finish first, then inspect the output.

Method 1: Firefox’s built-in Screenshot
Mozilla’s Screenshot feature captures either visible content or a full web page and saves an image file. The support article was last updated June 15, 2026. It does not promise that the native flow offers JPEG specifically, so verify the file type offered by your installed Firefox version.
- Open the target page in Firefox and wait for the text, images and interactive content you need to render.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot. Alternatively press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose the visible page or full-page option, depending on your goal.
- Use the capture tool’s download or save control.
- Check the filename extension and open the result. If Firefox offers only another image format, use a tool with explicit JPEG export or convert the resulting image with an image editor.
Firefox’s native capture is convenient and keeps the page in the browser, but the cited help does not establish a JPEG selector, quality control, or identical behavior across versions. Treat the labels in your current release as authoritative.
Method 2: A Chrome extension with explicit JPEG export
The Chrome Web Store listing for Page to Image says it captures a visible area or full page, lets you choose PNG or JPEG, and saves directly to Downloads. The listing also claims local processing and no upload; those are publisher statements rather than independent testing.
- Install the extension from its Chrome Web Store listing and review the permissions shown by Chrome.
- Open the webpage and allow required content to finish loading.
- Open the extension and select visible-area or full-page capture.
- Select JPEG (sometimes shown as JPG) and choose a quality setting if the extension provides one.
- Save the file, then open it and confirm that the complete intended area is present.
Do not assume every screenshot extension supports JPEG, full-page stitching, or local-only processing. Check the current listing and the extension’s controls before capturing confidential pages.
JPEG quality, dimensions and page behavior
Text sharpness
JPEG uses lossy compression. High quality usually preserves text better but creates a larger file; aggressive compression can produce halos around letters and icons. If the destination accepts PNG, PNG is often better for interface screenshots, but JPEG is useful when a smaller photographic image is required.

Browser scale and viewport
Set the browser window and zoom before capture. A narrow viewport can trigger a mobile layout, while a wider one may expose desktop navigation. Browser zoom changes the apparent size of text and controls. Retina or high-density displays can produce more pixels than the CSS dimensions suggest.
Dynamic and lazy content
Scroll through long pages once if images load on demand. Pause carousels, video backgrounds and animated banners when possible. A full-page capture taken while content is still loading can contain blank image regions or inconsistent sections.
Privacy and access
Captures can include account names, tokens, customer data, private messages or address-bar-adjacent information. Redact sensitive material before sharing. If a page requires login, confirm that the chosen tool processes it in a way acceptable to your organization.

Use print-to-PDF when the goal is an archival or printable document rather than a pixel-faithful screenshot. Firefox print settings include orientation, page range, color, scaling, margins and print backgrounds, but print styles can deliberately change the on-screen design. Edge also supports printing from a webpage or web-app document. Neither cited help page establishes direct JPEG output.
A PDF-to-JPEG workflow therefore has two stages: print the page to PDF, then open that PDF in a suitable image-conversion application and export one or more pages as JPEG. Expect pagination, changed fonts, omitted backgrounds or different spacing compared with a browser screenshot.
How to verify that the result is really a JPEG
- Check the filename extension: .jpg and .jpeg are equivalent filename conventions.
- Open the file in an image viewer and inspect the dimensions and visible boundaries.
- On systems that hide extensions, inspect file properties or use an image editor’s “Save As” or export dialog.
- Confirm that the bottom of the page is present if you requested full-page capture.
- Look for missing fonts, blank lazy-loaded images, cookie banners or overlays that should have been excluded.
Renaming a PNG to “.jpg” does not convert its internal encoding. Use an actual export or conversion command in an image application.

Common problems and fixes
The capture is only the visible screen
You selected viewport capture, or the tool does not support full-page stitching. Reopen the capture controls and choose full page. If that option is absent, use a tool that explicitly lists full-page support.
JPEG is not offered
Firefox’s cited support text promises an image file but does not specify JPEG. Choose an extension that explicitly lists JPEG export, or export the captured image through an image editor that supports JPEG.
The bottom of the page is blank
Lazy-loaded content may not have loaded before capture. Scroll through the page, wait for network activity to settle, and try again. Some infinite-scroll pages have no stable endpoint and cannot be represented reliably in one full-page image.
Cookie notices, chat bubbles or popups cover content
Dismiss overlays before capturing. If a dialog reappears on reload, use the page’s close or consent control, or capture after the page has stored your choice. Do not bypass an access control or consent mechanism you are not authorized to bypass.
The result looks different from the browser
Check responsive breakpoints, browser zoom, print styles and animations. PDF printing intentionally uses print CSS; screenshot tools use screen rendering but may stitch at different viewport widths.

The file is too large
Reduce the capture width or JPEG quality, remove unnecessary full-page whitespace, or resize the image after capture. Keep an original high-quality copy if the image may be edited later.
Only one photo is needed
Open the image in a new tab or use the browser’s image-save action. Capturing the complete page adds layout, text and compression that are unnecessary for a single asset.

Why does a full-page image have different proportions than my monitor?
A full-page capture includes the page’s entire document height, not just the viewport. Its dimensions are therefore determined by page length and capture width.
