If you already have a tall full-page screenshot and need to preserve its exact appearance, convert that image to PDF; it may remain one very tall page unless you enable page splitting. Firefox for iOS can save a full-page capture directly as a PDF, while Firefox desktop’s documented full-page tool downloads an image.
Screenshot PDF or webpage PDF?
These two workflows produce different files. A screenshot PDF is an image wrapped in a PDF container. It keeps the captured colors, spacing, overlays and visual layout, but text usually is not selectable and a very tall image can become one unusually long page. A print-to-PDF file is generated from the webpage’s print layout. It can paginate and preserve selectable text, but elements may reflow, disappear, or move compared with the screen.

Decide before capturing whether visual fidelity or ordinary document pagination matters. That choice prevents the common mistake of printing a tall screenshot and expecting it to behave like a professionally paginated document.
Convert an existing full-page screenshot image
Keep it as one continuous page
Open the image in an application that can create a PDF from an image, choose its export or print-to-PDF command, and save a new PDF. Select an option such as “fit image” or “actual size” according to your goal. “Actual size” keeps pixels from being rescaled but can create a page larger than standard paper; “fit” places the complete image on the selected page and can make text very small.

After exporting, open the PDF and inspect the bottom edge. Confirm that the page is not clipped, that the image is not rotated unexpectedly, and that text remains legible at the intended zoom.
Split the image across several pages
If the screenshot must print as a multi-page document, use a converter with a page-splitting, tiling, or fit-to-pages control. Choose the paper size and orientation, then set a readable scale rather than automatically shrinking the entire image to one sheet. Exact labels differ by operating system and application, so preview every page before saving.
- Use portrait pages for narrow mobile captures and landscape pages for wide desktop captures.
- Leave enough margin for printers or binding; edge-to-edge output is not available in every PDF workflow.
- Check page boundaries around headings, tables, and images. A split through a line of text can be harder to read than one tall page.
A PDF made from a screenshot is still fundamentally an image. If you need searchable text, clickable links, selectable paragraphs, or clean pagination, return to the live webpage and use Print instead.
Firefox desktop: capture the whole page, then make a PDF
Mozilla’s desktop instructions document full-page capture as an image download or clipboard copy, not as a direct PDF export. Follow this sequence:
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot.
- Select Save full page, not the visible-area selection.
- Download the resulting image.
- Convert that image with your local image-to-PDF workflow, using the single-page or page-splitting choice that matches your goal.

Firefox for iOS: save a full-page screenshot directly as PDF
Firefox for iOS documents a direct route that does not require exporting an image first:
- Open the webpage in Firefox for iOS and take a screenshot.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail when it appears.
- Choose Full Page.
- Tap Done, then choose Save as PDF.
- Select a destination in the iOS share or Files interface.
The available controls can vary with the installed iOS and Firefox versions. Mozilla’s procedure is documented at Save web pages as PDFs in Firefox for iOS.
iPhone Safari: keep the screenshot and PDF paths separate
Safari supports capturing webpage content beyond the visible screen, and Apple separately documents annotating and saving a webpage as a PDF. They are related but not the same conversion.
When you need a full-page capture
- Open the page in Safari and take an iPhone screenshot.
- Tap the thumbnail, then select the full-page view when it is offered.
- Use the available save or share controls for your iOS version.
When you need a normal webpage PDF
Use Safari’s webpage-to-PDF command from the share or markup interface, then save the resulting document. This route follows print/document layout rather than preserving a screenshot bitmap. Apple’s instructions are in Take a screenshot on iPhone and Annotate and save a webpage as a PDF in Safari on iPhone.
Chrome: print a webpage to PDF
Chrome on Windows, Linux, or macOS
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on Mac.
- In the print dialog, select the available PDF destination, such as Save to PDF.
- Review page range, paper size, orientation, margins, scale, headers, and background-graphics settings.
- Click Save and choose the destination.
Chrome’s destination names depend on the operating system and installed printers. Google’s computer instructions are at Print from Chrome – Computer.

Chrome on Android
- Open the webpage.
- Tap More > Share > Print.
- Select Save as PDF.
- Choose a storage location and tap the save control.
Follow Google’s Android-specific path at Print from Chrome – Android. This creates a print-layout PDF, not a PDF wrapper around a full-page screenshot.
Make the result readable and complete
Before saving
- Wait for lazy-loaded images, charts, and embedded content to finish loading.
- Dismiss cookie dialogs, newsletter forms, and chat bubbles if they obscure the content you need.
- For print output, open print preview and inspect several pages, not just the first.
- For screenshot output, verify that the capture used a full-page option rather than the visible viewport.
After saving
- Open the PDF and check the final page or bottom edge for clipping.
- Zoom into small type and high-density screenshots.
- Confirm that page breaks do not cut through important content.
- Check the file size before emailing or uploading it; a large, high-resolution image can create a much larger PDF than a print-layout document.
Common problems and fixes
Only the visible screen appears
You used an ordinary screenshot instead of a full-page capture. Repeat the capture and choose Save full page in Firefox, the full-page option on iPhone, or an equivalent whole-page control. Apple and Mozilla distinguish visible-area and full-page captures in their instructions.
The PDF is one extremely tall page
The source is probably one tall image. Use a converter with page splitting or fit-to-pages, select a paper size and orientation, and preview the scale. Do not assume that a print dialog will automatically create sensible breaks for an image.
Content is missing or shifted
Screenshot capture and print rendering use different layouts. Compare the screenshot-based PDF with print preview. Choose the screenshot route when exact appearance matters; choose Print when readable pagination and document text matter.
Images or lower sections are blank
Scroll through the page once, wait for lazy content, and capture again. A page can also change after a cookie or consent prompt is dismissed, so make the page state stable before capturing.

The menu labels do not match
Browser, operating-system, language, and policy updates can change labels and destinations. Use the official support page for your browser and check whether you are in the desktop, iOS, or Android edition.

This usually happens when a very tall screenshot is forced onto one standard sheet. Split it across pages, increase the paper size, or use print-to-PDF from the live page. Inspect the result at 100% zoom before distributing it.
