The fastest free method is Firefox’s built-in print preview. Open the HTML file or web page, choose Menu > Print…, set Destination to Save to PDF, adjust the layout options, and select Print. The PDF is created on your device, so you do not need to upload the document to an online converter.

Convert an HTML file to PDF in Firefox
- Open the source. Launch Firefox and open either the local
.htmlfile or the web page you want to save. - Open print preview. Select the application menu (the three-line button) and choose Print…. Firefox opens its print-preview screen.
- Choose PDF output. In Destination, select Save to PDF. This is Firefox’s built-in PDF printer.
- Set the page options. Choose the page range, orientation, paper size, scale, margins, color mode, and whether headers, footers, and background graphics should be included.
- Save the file. Click Print, choose a filename and folder, and confirm. Firefox writes the PDF locally.
Mozilla’s support instructions describe the same essential action: select Save to PDF from the destination drop-down to save the preview as a PDF. The labels can vary slightly by operating system and Firefox release, but the print-preview path is the same.
Pick the right Firefox print format
Original
Use Original when the HTML’s visual design matters. It preserves the page’s normal structure, including tables, branding, and (when enabled) background graphics. Web pages are laid out for screens, however, so columns can reflow and elements can move across page breaks when printed.

Simplified
Where Firefox offers Simplified, it presents an article-like version with less clutter. It can remove navigation, advertisements, buttons, and some background imagery. This is usually the better choice for a readable article, but it may omit design elements or interactive content that you need in the PDF.
If Simplified is unavailable, switch to Reader View first when Firefox offers it, then print that view. Always inspect the preview rather than assuming the screen layout will fit paper.
Settings that prevent ugly page breaks
Paper size and orientation
Choose the paper size your recipient will use, normally Letter or A4. Set Landscape for wide tables, dashboards, or code listings; use Portrait for ordinary documents.
Scale and margins
Reduce scale when a table is clipped at the right edge. Increasing margins can improve readability but creates more pages. For a long document, preview several page transitions after changing either setting.

Backgrounds, headers, and footers
Enable background graphics when color blocks, diagrams, or branded panels are part of the information. Disable them for a smaller, ink-friendly file. Headers and footers can add the URL, title, date, or page numbers; turn them off when the source already contains those details.
Page range
Enter a range such as 1-3 when you need only a section. Confirm the preview’s page numbering before saving, because a web page’s printed page count may differ from its on-screen length.
Clean an HTML page before printing
Remove overlays and banners
Cookie notices, newsletter forms, floating chat buttons, and sticky navigation can cover the content. Try Simplified or Reader View first. If an overlay still appears, close it in the page, reload, and reopen print preview.
Edit the printable page
Firefox Add-ons such as Print Edit WE can remove unwanted elements or change text before printing. Add-ons have their own permissions and maintenance status, so review the current listing and permissions before installing one.

For a private document or a one-off conversion, Firefox is generally the safer first choice because no upload is required. Consider an online converter only when you need advanced layout handling, automation, or batch processing that the browser print pipeline does not provide.
After saving: edit the PDF in Firefox
Open the saved PDF in Firefox. The built-in PDF Editor can add text, drawings, images with alt text, signatures, highlights, and comments. Select the Text or Draw buttons in the upper-right toolbar, make your changes, then choose Download to save the edited copy. Keep the original PDF if you may need to compare or undo the edits.
Troubleshooting common conversion problems
“Save to PDF” is missing
Make sure you opened Firefox’s print preview through Menu > Print…, not the operating system’s generic print dialog. On some systems, select the system dialog’s PDF option or install a PDF printer supplied by the operating system.
The PDF is blank
Wait for the page to finish loading, then print again. A script-rendered page may need a reload, a disabled content blocker, or a switch to Reader View. If the source is a local file, confirm that the HTML references use accessible relative paths and that images are stored where the document expects them.

Images or colors are absent
Enable background graphics, check that images have loaded before opening preview, and use Original rather than Simplified when design elements are required. Some sites intentionally suppress backgrounds in print CSS.
Tables or code are cut off
Try Landscape, reduce scale, or increase the printable width by reducing margins. For very wide content, export selected pages or edit the HTML’s print stylesheet before printing.
Cookie banners or chat widgets cover text
Dismiss them before printing, use Simplified or Reader View, or remove the elements with a print-editing extension. If the page is yours, add print CSS that hides those selectors.
Fonts look different
Allow web fonts to finish loading and print again. A remote font that is blocked, unavailable, or restricted by the page can be replaced with a local fallback, changing line breaks and pagination.
