On a Pixel phone, review or remove recognized tracks in the Now Playing app’s History tab; turn off recognition in that app’s Settings. These controls are separate from Google’s Usage & diagnostics setting and Google Account activity controls. Pixel Watch has its own diagnostics-report setting, but Google’s published help does not document a Now Playing history screen or phone-history sync on the watch.
Find, search, or remove Now Playing history on a Pixel phone
Google’s current instructions put recognized tracks in the Now Playing app, rather than the former location in Pixel settings. Open Now Playing and tap History. You can search by text and narrow the list by date and time.

- Open the Now Playing app.
- Tap History.
- Find a track, then use its More menu or swipe left to favorite, remove, or share it. You can also open a song in a connected music service.
These are controls for the song list displayed in the app. Google’s instructions do not say that deleting a track there also deletes Google Account activity, or vice versa. If the app or menu is missing, check for the Google Now Playing app in Play Store; its interface can differ by app or software version, and Google says first use after installation may take up to 24 hours to become available. Turn off Now Playing recognition
To stop the feature on the phone, open the Now Playing app, tap Settings, then choose Disable Now Playing. Google documents enabling it in the same settings area. This is the control for stopping Now Playing; changing diagnostics or account activity settings is not a substitute.

What Now Playing sends to Google
Automatic recognition uses an on-device music library. If it cannot identify a track locally, or if the app requests additional song details, Now Playing may make an optional cloud request. Google Pixel Phone Help says: “The app collects and sends a short digital audio fingerprint of the song to Google.” It also says: “It doesn’t send raw audio or background conversations to Google.” Google says the fingerprints are used to recognize music and are not stored on its server or shared with Google or third-party services.
The optional Show search button on lock screen is different from automatic recognition: tapping it initiates a search and sends a short digital audio fingerprint to identify the song. Google’s description does not support saying that every automatic identification streams raw microphone audio.

Choose the right privacy setting
These three controls address different things. The setting names and paths below reflect Google’s current help pages; menus may vary with software versions.
| Control | What it controls | Where to find it | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disable Now Playing | Stops Now Playing recognition on the phone. | Now Playing app → Settings → Disable Now Playing | It is not the Usage & diagnostics or Google Account activity control. Google Pixel Phone Help. |
| Usage & diagnostics | Controls sharing of device usage and diagnostic information; Google says this may include the number of songs recognized when the setting is on. | Phone: Settings → Security & Privacy → More security & privacy → Usage & diagnostics | Turning it off does not stop Now Playing itself or affect information apps might collect. Google Pixel Phone Help. |
| Google Account activity | Manages Google Account activity using account history settings; saved activity can be viewed or deleted in My Activity. | Google Account → Data & privacy → History settings; view or delete saved activity in My Activity | Google’s reviewed instructions do not establish that this deletes the Now Playing app’s History list. Google Account Help: Manage your Google Settings. |
Google says turning off Usage & diagnostics “won’t affect information that apps might collect.” Google also says other user profiles on a shared device may change the diagnostics setting. Turning diagnostics off does not prevent essential Android or Wear OS updates. Google Pixel Phone Help: Share Pixel usage & diagnostics information with Google.

Pixel Watch: the documented privacy control and its limits
For a Pixel Watch, Google documents a separate diagnostics-report control in the paired Watch app: Watch app → Privacy & legal → System privacy settings → Usage & diagnostic reports. This is a watch diagnostics setting, not a documented control for the phone’s Now Playing song list.
Google’s reviewed official help explains Now Playing history on Pixel phones and Watch diagnostics, but does not document a Now Playing history screen on Pixel Watch or say that the phone’s history syncs to the watch. Whether a particular watch setup exposes or syncs that list is therefore not established by these instructions. Google Pixel Phone Help: Share Pixel usage & diagnostics information with Google.
