Start with the order page: confirm the estimated delivery date, address and latest tracking event, then contact the seller through the order-linked help or messaging option. State what is late and ask for a clear update, a replacement or a refund. If the seller does not resolve it, escalate through the marketplace before the deadline shown for that order; marketplace and payment-dispute time limits differ.
Before you contact anyone, check the order
- Open the order record and note the promised or estimated delivery date.
- Confirm the saved delivery address and review the latest tracking event.
- If tracking says “delivered,” check the delivery location or photo, ask household members or neighbors, and use the marketplace’s missing-package instructions.
- Keep the order confirmation, receipt, tracking number, shipment promise, delay notices and copies of your messages.
Use the order page’s own Help, Message seller, Problem with order or item-not-received option. That ties your request to the transaction and keeps a record. The Federal Trade Commission advises consumers to contact a marketplace seller immediately when there is a problem, ask for answers in writing and keep related records. Its guidance also warns that paying outside the marketplace can remove marketplace protections. FTC: Buying From an Online Marketplace

What to write to the seller
Keep the message factual and specific. Include the order number, the estimated delivery date, the latest tracking status and the outcome you want. Avoid sending payment details or moving the conversation to an unrelated channel.

If the package is marked delivered but you cannot find it, say that directly and include the delivery scan date and any checks you have already made. Save the seller’s reply and note when you contacted them.
How to contact major marketplaces
These examples are platform-specific. Availability, eligibility and deadlines can depend on the order, seller, item and location, so follow the current options and deadline displayed on your order.

If the order says delivered but is missing
First check the delivery confirmation and the places a carrier might have left the parcel. Confirm the address on the order and ask other household members or nearby neighbors. Then use the platform’s order-linked missing-package route rather than treating a delivery scan as proof that you received the item.

When and how to escalate
- Give the seller a clear chance to respond. Use the platform’s stated guidance for that marketplace, not another platform’s timeline.
- Open the marketplace’s case or support route from the order. Describe the delivery promise, tracking history, seller contact date and requested remedy. Attach relevant records if the form allows it.
- Check the claim deadline immediately. Marketplace protection is conditional, and a late request may not qualify. Use the deadline on the live order or current help flow.
- Contact your payment issuer promptly if the problem remains unresolved. A slow seller exchange should not cause you to miss a separate card-dispute deadline.
Do not assume that a marketplace case, a seller promise or a card dispute automatically results in a refund. Each route has its own requirements and decision process.

The FTC’s summary of the U.S. Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule says a seller must ship within the time stated in the offer or advertisement. If no shipping time was stated, the general deadline is 30 days. When shipment is delayed, the seller must notify you and offer the choice to agree to the delay or cancel for a full refund. For a qualifying credit-card billing error involving an item not delivered as agreed, FTC guidance says the general deadline is to send a written dispute within 60 days after the first statement with the error was sent. Send it to the billing-disputes address, not the payment address. Debit-card protections differ and may not provide the same non-delivery refund right, so contact the debit-card issuer promptly. A dispute is a process, not a guaranteed outcome.
The FTC also advises tracking purchases and contacting the issuer promptly about billing errors or debit disputes; waiting for the seller can leave less time to use any applicable issuer protections. If you suspect a dishonest business, FTC marketplace guidance points consumers to the FTC and their state attorney general for reporting options.
