The safest workflow is to check the current supported-version list before updating ATS, install the launcher, select American Truck Simulator, download its files, sign in through the TruckersMP screen, choose a server, and click Drive.

What you need before joining
TruckersMP adds multiplayer features by hooking into the single-player game process. That is why it requires its own launcher and more access than a conventional texture or sound modification. The launcher is maintained separately from the game, so ATS updates and TruckersMP updates do not always become available at the same time.
Core requirements
- A legitimate copy of American Truck Simulator.
- Windows, which is the platform supported by the native TruckersMP launcher.
- .NET Framework 4.7.2 or newer.
- An active internet connection.
- A game version currently supported by TruckersMP.
- A TruckersMP account.
- The Steam account that owns ATS, linked to your TruckersMP account.
- The TruckersMP Launcher.
A Steam community guide also says that the public Steam profile used for registration should show at least two hours of recorded gameplay in both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. Treat that as a community-guide requirement rather than a rule independently confirmed on TruckersMP’s own requirements page. If registration rejects your account, check the current TruckersMP knowledge base before changing privacy settings or playtime.

Check the supported ATS version first
TruckersMP’s download information lists the game versions its mod supports. The list includes ATS 1.61.3.1s in the material available for this guide, but that is a version-list entry, not a promise that it will remain current. Open the TruckersMP download page and verify the ATS version shown there before allowing Steam to update the game.
If Steam has already installed an ATS update that TruckersMP does not yet support, the mod may refuse to start. Do not assume that a game update is harmless simply because single-player still launches. Wait for the supported-version list or follow the current compatibility instructions in the TruckersMP knowledge base.
Create and prepare your TruckersMP account
Register an account
- Open TruckersMP’s account-registration page.
- Create your TruckersMP credentials.
- When prompted, connect the Steam account that owns American Truck Simulator.
- Complete any account verification requested by the service.
The Steam account link matters because TruckersMP uses it to verify game ownership. Linking a different Steam account, or one that does not own ATS, can leave the launcher unable to authorize the game even when ATS is installed locally.
Confirm your Steam profile can be checked
The community setup guide used for the common installation sequence refers to a public Steam profile and two hours of recorded playtime for both ATS and ETS2. Because that guidance is not independently confirmed as a current official TruckersMP rule, use it as a practical check rather than an absolute guarantee. If your account is private, temporarily review the visibility settings required by the current TruckersMP registration instructions instead of relying on an old guide.
Download and install the TruckersMP Launcher
Get the official launcher package
Download the launcher from TruckersMP’s own download page. The installer is named TruckersMP-Setup.exe in the community installation instructions. TruckersMP describes the launcher as a small program that keeps the modification current by downloading only files that have changed, rather than replacing every file on each update.

- Finish the setup and start the TruckersMP Launcher.
Because the mod integrates with the game process, Windows security software may inspect or prompt for the launcher. Only approve a file obtained from TruckersMP’s own download service, and do not use a repacked installer from an unrelated download site.

The launcher includes a game selector. Choose American Truck Simulator, not the Euro Truck Simulator 2 entry. The two games use the same multiplayer ecosystem but are separate installations and need the correct game path.
If the launcher detects ATS automatically, confirm that the displayed location is the installation you actually use. If it cannot find the game, set the path manually:
- Open Steam Library.
- Right-click American Truck Simulator.
- Choose Properties.
- Open Local Files.
- Select Browse.
- Copy or note the folder that opens, then select that folder in the TruckersMP Launcher.
Download the mod files
- With American Truck Simulator selected, click Download Updates.
- Keep the launcher open while it checks and downloads the required files.
- Wait for the update process to finish before trying to start the game.
A partially completed update can leave the launcher installed but the mod unusable. If the download stops, reconnect to the internet, reopen the launcher, and allow it to check for changed files again. Do not delete the game installation as a first response; the launcher is designed to retrieve the files it needs.
Join an ATS server
Start ATS through TruckersMP
- Launch American Truck Simulator from the TruckersMP Launcher rather than from the ordinary Steam Play button.
- Allow the game to pass through the normal game and SCS logos.
- Wait for the custom TruckersMP login screen.
- Enter your TruckersMP account credentials.
- Approve the TruckersMP rules if the client asks you to do so.
Launching the game normally opens single-player ATS and does not place you in the TruckersMP environment. The custom login screen is the practical sign that the mod has loaded.

Choose a server and enter the game
- Review the server list presented by TruckersMP.
- Select an ATS server.
- Click Drive.
TruckersMP servers are community-operated multiplayer spaces, so the available list, rules, and compatibility can change independently of the base game. Read the rules shown by the client before driving. If the server-selection screen does not appear, return to the launcher and confirm that you started the ATS entry rather than the ETS2 entry or the unmodified game.

Linux
TruckersMP’s native launcher requirement is Windows. Linux users can find community projects that run the Windows client through Wine, and Proton can also be used when Steam itself is installed natively and working. These methods add another compatibility layer: Wine or Proton, the Steam installation, the game prefix, and the TruckersMP files all have to remain compatible. Their instructions and maintenance status can change without notice.
Do not treat a successful Wine launch as official Linux support. If a community tool stops working after an ATS or TruckersMP update, consult that tool’s current documentation rather than applying Windows-only troubleshooting steps.
macOS
An unofficial macOS launcher is available in beta and uses CrossOver Wine or a standalone Wine installation. Beta software can lag behind game and mod updates, so verify its current status before investing time in configuration. TruckersMP and SCS Software do not endorse these workarounds as native macOS support.
Version and update problems
The launcher says your game is unsupported
This usually means the installed ATS build does not match a version currently accepted by TruckersMP. Check the TruckersMP download page’s supported-version list, including the exact suffix shown for ATS. A version number that looks close is not necessarily compatible.

- Close ATS and the TruckersMP Launcher.
- Check the current compatibility list.
- Compare it with the ATS version installed by Steam.
- If Steam updated ATS beyond the listed build, follow the current TruckersMP compatibility guidance and wait for an update if no supported option is available.
The available material does not establish whether an update to ETS2 alone affects ATS playability, so do not infer cross-game behavior from an ETS2 update notice.
A pending update prevents launch
A pending TruckersMP update can block the mod from starting. Reopen the launcher, use Download Updates, and let the check complete. If the launcher repeatedly returns to the same update, verify that the internet connection is stable and that Windows has not blocked the updater. The launcher is expected to download only changed files, so repeated checks do not necessarily mean the entire mod is being reinstalled.

The launcher cannot locate ATS
Use Steam’s Properties > Local Files > Browse route to identify the real installation folder, then set that path manually in the game selector. This is more reliable than guessing a library location, especially when Steam uses more than one library drive.

The TruckersMP login screen never appears
Confirm that you launched ATS from TruckersMP, not from Steam’s ordinary game shortcut. Next, verify that the launcher finished downloading updates and that American Truck Simulator is selected. A supported ATS version is also required; a normal single-player launch does not prove multiplayer compatibility.
Your account is rejected
Check the email or username and password used for TruckersMP, then confirm that the linked Steam account is the one that owns ATS. If registration or verification requires a visible Steam profile or recorded playtime, compare your account with the current TruckersMP instructions. The two-hour condition comes from a community guide and may not be a universal current rule.

You reach the client but cannot drive
Accept any rules prompt, choose an ATS server from the list, and select Drive. If you are returned to a menu, recheck that you selected American Truck Simulator and that the server is compatible with the installed ATS build. Server availability and community rules are separate from the single-player game’s local settings.

Check before every major ATS update
Steam may update ATS before TruckersMP supports the new build. Make the TruckersMP supported-version list your first checkpoint, especially before launching a large game update. This avoids the common situation in which single-player works but the multiplayer launcher refuses to start.
Use the official knowledge base when guides disagree
Community installation guides are useful for showing the sequence of clicks, but they can age quickly. The Steam guide used for the familiar setup procedure was about 697 days old at the time it was checked. TruckersMP’s Installation and Launcher knowledge-base article is the better authority when its instructions differ from an older guide.
Understand what TruckersMP is—and is not
TruckersMP is a third-party community mod acknowledged by SCS Software, not an SCS-operated multiplayer mode documented in the material available for this guide. That distinction affects support: ATS itself, Steam, the TruckersMP launcher, and unofficial Wine-based tools can each have separate update schedules and troubleshooting paths.
Quick pre-drive checklist
- ATS is a legitimate installation owned by the linked Steam account.
- Windows is available for the native launcher, or you have accepted the risks of an unofficial Wine, Proton, or CrossOver setup.
- .NET Framework 4.7.2 or newer is installed on Windows.
- Your TruckersMP account is created and connected to Steam.
- The TruckersMP Launcher is installed from the service’s download page.
- American Truck Simulator is selected in the launcher.
- The installed ATS version appears on TruckersMP’s supported list.
- Download Updates has completed.
- You started ATS through TruckersMP and reached its custom login screen.
- You accepted the rules, selected an ATS server, and clicked Drive.
What to do if you only want single-player
You do not need TruckersMP to play the ordinary ATS single-player game. Steam’s standard Play button launches the unmodified game. Install and use TruckersMP only when you want to enter its community multiplayer servers; keeping the two launch paths separate makes it easier to tell whether a problem belongs to ATS itself or to the multiplayer mod.
The practical answer
For most players, the dependable route is Windows plus the current TruckersMP Launcher: link the correct Steam account, select ATS, download updates, launch through TruckersMP, sign in, choose a server, and press Drive. The two details most likely to determine success are version compatibility and using the mod launcher instead of the normal Steam shortcut. Linux and macOS can work through unofficial compatibility projects, but they do not have the same native support path.
