The XBOX Nano Controller uses XBOX Wireless with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles. It pairs with Windows 10/11 PCs, Android devices, and iPhone or iPad over Bluetooth. Turn on the controller, hold its Pair button until the Xbox button flashes, then select it from the host device’s pairing menu. A USB-C cable is required to charge the internal battery and is sold separately.
Connection methods at a glance
Choose the connection that matches your device. Consoles use XBOX Wireless; Windows PCs and mobile devices normally use Bluetooth. A Windows computer can also use Xbox Wireless if it has compatible Xbox Wireless hardware. The wireless protocol determines which pairing menu you need to open.

The official product information lists Bluetooth support for Windows 10/11 PCs, tablets, iOS, Android, and compatible Smart TVs. It does not establish a game-by-game compatibility list, a specific Bluetooth profile list, latency figures, or battery-life measurements, so those details should not be used to choose a connection method.
Before you pair the controller
Check the host device
- For a console, turn on the Xbox before beginning.
- For Windows, confirm that Bluetooth is present and switched on. A desktop without Bluetooth needs a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter, or supported Xbox Wireless hardware if you intend to use XBOX Wireless.
- On Android, iOS, or a Smart TV, open the device’s Bluetooth settings and leave the available-device list visible.
Power and charge the Nano
Press the Xbox button to turn on the controller. If it does not power on or the button never lights, charge it with a USB-C cable before diagnosing a wireless problem. XBOX specifies that the cable is sold separately. The available information does not say that every USB-C cable carries data or that every charger supports every charging configuration, so use a cable and charger that meet the seller’s electrical specifications.

Know what the indicator means
During pairing, the Xbox button flashes while the controller searches. After a successful connection, the button remains lit. If the button stops flashing without staying lit, check the host’s device list and repeat the pairing sequence.
Connect to an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One
The Nano connects to both console generations with XBOX Wireless rather than the Bluetooth menu used by phones and PCs. The exact on-screen prompt or location of the console’s pairing control can differ between Xbox generations and system software, but the sequence is the same.
- Turn on the Xbox console.
- Press the Xbox button on the Nano Controller.
- Press the controller’s Pair button. The Xbox button begins flashing as the controller searches.
- Use the console’s controller-pairing control while the button is flashing. Follow the prompt shown by your console.
- Wait for the Xbox button to remain steadily lit. That steady light indicates that the wireless link has been established.
Keep the controller near the console during the first pairing attempt. If the controller is already associated with another host, put it back into pairing mode and select the console again. A successful console connection does not require a USB-C cable; the cable is for charging the internal battery.

Windows uses the standard Bluetooth device screen for the Nano. Menu wording below follows Microsoft’s documented Xbox-controller procedure for Windows 10 and Windows 11.

- Press the Xbox button to turn on the controller.
- Hold the Pair button for three seconds. Release it when the Xbox button flashes.
- On the PC, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Turn Bluetooth on if it is off.
- Select Add device, choose the Bluetooth option, and select the XBOX controller when it appears.
- Wait for Windows to report that the device is connected. The controller’s Xbox button should stay lit.
If the controller does not appear, keep the Pair button held for the full three seconds and place the controller close to the computer. A desktop that has no Bluetooth radio cannot complete this procedure until you add a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter. The adapter recommendation follows from Windows requiring Bluetooth for this pairing method; it is not a Nano-specific accessory supplied by Microsoft.
Use Xbox Wireless on a supported Windows PC
Some PCs include Xbox Wireless hardware. If yours does, Microsoft documents a different discovery path from Bluetooth:
- Press and hold the Xbox button until it flashes.
- Hold the controller’s Pair button until the Xbox button flashes faster.
- On Windows, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device.
- Choose Everything else, then select the Xbox controller.
- Wait for the Xbox button to stay lit.
This option only applies to a PC with supported Xbox Wireless capability. If the controller is not found, use Bluetooth instead or install hardware that your PC supports; do not assume that a generic Bluetooth adapter provides Xbox Wireless.
Connect to an Android phone or tablet
Android manufacturers use different names and layouts for Bluetooth settings, but the controller-side sequence is consistent.

- Open the phone or tablet’s Bluetooth settings.
- Turn Bluetooth on and leave the list of available devices open.
- Press the Xbox button to turn on the Nano.
- Hold the Pair button until the Xbox button flashes.
- Tap the XBOX controller when it appears in the available-device list.
- Wait for the Xbox button to remain lit, then open a game that supports controller input.
If Android shows a confirmation prompt, accept it. If the controller name does not appear, turn Bluetooth off and on again on the phone, return the Nano to pairing mode, and search again. The official compatibility information covers Android Bluetooth connection, while the exact menu labels depend on the device manufacturer and Android version.
Connect to an iPhone or iPad
On Apple mobile devices, the pairing screen is in Settings.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth on the iPhone or iPad.
- Turn Bluetooth on.
- Press the Xbox button on the Nano Controller.
- Hold the Pair button until the Xbox button flashes.
- Tap the XBOX controller when it appears under available devices.
- When the controller shows as connected and its Xbox button remains lit, launch a controller-compatible game.
iOS wording and game support can change with operating-system versions. A successful Bluetooth pairing does not guarantee that every game accepts controller input; the game itself must support a controller.

The product information lists compatible Smart TVs among the Nano’s Bluetooth targets, but it does not specify one universal television menu. Open the TV’s Bluetooth-accessory or controller settings, put the Nano into pairing mode by holding Pair until the Xbox button flashes, and choose the controller from the TV’s discovered-device list. Because television interfaces differ by manufacturer and model, use the labels shown on your TV. If the TV pairs but a particular app ignores the controller, that app may not support gamepad input.

Charging, cables, and adapters
USB-C charging
The Nano has an internal rechargeable battery. XBOX states that a USB-C cable is required for charging and sold separately. Keep a suitable USB-C cable available before the first session, especially if the controller will not power on. The available specifications do not establish charging time, battery capacity, battery life, or a required wattage, so avoid treating any unverified number as a Nano specification.
Bluetooth adapter for a Windows desktop
A desktop without built-in Bluetooth needs a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter to use the Windows Bluetooth procedure. Plug in the adapter, allow Windows to recognize it, turn Bluetooth on in Settings > Bluetooth & devices, and then follow the five-step pairing process above. Adapter compatibility is a PC-hardware consideration, not a claim that the Nano includes an adapter.
When a cable is not part of pairing
Neither Xbox-console pairing nor the documented wireless PC and mobile procedures require a cable connected to the controller. The cable’s stated purpose is charging. Do not infer that a cable will provide a wired gameplay mode, because the published information does not confirm wired data operation.

Use XBOX Wireless when connecting to an Xbox console. Use Bluetooth for a phone, tablet, iPhone, iPad, or an ordinary Windows PC with Bluetooth. On Windows, select Xbox Wireless only when the computer explicitly supports it.

Troubleshoot a failed connection
The Xbox button never flashes
- Press the Xbox button once to ensure the controller is on.
- Hold Pair for the required three seconds on Bluetooth hosts.
- Charge the controller with a suitable USB-C cable if it will not power on.
- Move the controller close to the host and retry.
The controller does not appear in Windows
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices and verify that Bluetooth is enabled.
- Select Add device and start a new search while the Xbox button is flashing.
- Remove an old XBOX controller entry from Windows Bluetooth settings, then put the Nano back into pairing mode.
- Retry with the controller close to the PC.
- If the desktop has no Bluetooth, install a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter or use supported Xbox Wireless hardware.
The controller appears but will not finish pairing
Cancel the pending request, remove the old device entry, and start discovery again. Make sure the Nano is not still connected to another host. On a console, repeat the controller Pair action and the console’s pairing control together rather than waiting for a Bluetooth-style menu.
The controller pairs but the game ignores it
Check the game’s input options and confirm that the title supports a controller. Pairing proves that the host sees the Nano; it does not establish that every game or app accepts gamepad input. The official compatibility statement specifically limits use to compatible games.
The connection drops during setup
- Keep the Nano close to the console, PC, phone, tablet, or TV.
- Confirm that the Xbox button is still flashing while discovery is in progress.
- Charge the controller before repeating the attempt.
- On Windows or mobile, toggle Bluetooth off and on, then begin a fresh search.
Size and launch details
Xbox Wire’s October 14, 2026 announcement lists the XBOX Nano Controller at $49.99. The same announcement describes it as a little over 5 inches long and weighing 3.5 ounces. Those are launch-announcement figures and refer to the controller, not packaging dimensions. Prices and availability can vary by market and date.

What is and is not documented
The documented connection paths establish console support for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One through XBOX Wireless, Bluetooth support for Windows 10/11, Android, iOS, tablets, and compatible Smart TVs, and the Windows pairing menus described above. They also establish that charging requires a separately sold USB-C cable.
No authoritative Nano-specific firmware-version table, Bluetooth-profile list, game-by-game compatibility matrix, latency comparison, battery-capacity figure, or battery-life result is provided. Treat those specifications as unknown until XBOX publishes them. A host or game can therefore meet the wireless requirements and still need its own software support for controller input.
