How to Connect the Canon PIXMA G3270 to Wi‑Fi and Print From a Phone

To print from a phone, connect the PIXMA G3270 to your router with HOME > Settings > LAN settings > Wi‑Fi > Wi‑Fi setup, then register it in Canon PRINT. For an iPhone or iPad, AirPrint can print without Canon’s app; Android phones can use Canon PRINT, Mopria Print Service, or Canon Print Service. In normal router mode, the phone and printer must be on the same Wi‑Fi network. If you have no router, Wireless Direct connects the phone straight to the printer, but the printer cannot provide internet access while that mode is active.

The PIXMA G3270 is covered by Canon’s G3070-series online manual, and Canon’s G3270 support page lists its mobile-printing options. The most reliable household setup is router Wi‑Fi: the printer joins your wireless network and every phone that prints joins that same network.

Canon PRINT Initial setup, printing and scanning Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY from the App Store or Google Play App screens and supported operating-system versions can change.
AirPrint Printing from an iPhone or iPad without another print app iOS/iPadOS device and a shared LAN, or a supported direct connection The app you are printing from must expose AirPrint; Bonjour must be enabled on the printer for discovery.
Mopria Print Service Android’s system print workflow A compatible Android device and the Mopria service Menu names and compatibility vary by phone and Android version.
Canon Print Service Android printing through a Canon plug-in The Canon Print Service plug-in, enabled in Android settings It is a plug-in rather than a standalone printer app.
Wireless Direct Printing where no router is available A phone connected directly to the G3270 through Canon PRINT Up to five devices can connect, and the printer has no internet connection in this mode.

Router Wi‑Fi and Wireless Direct are separate connection modes. In router mode, the router handles communication between devices and the printer can remain part of a normal home network. In Wireless Direct mode, the phone talks directly to the printer instead. That is useful temporarily, but it is not a replacement for a shared household network.

Before you start

  • Turn on the G3270 and wait until any cleaning, ink-related operation or other printer process has finished.
  • Have the router’s exact network name (SSID) and Wi‑Fi password ready. Passwords are case-sensitive.
  • Place the printer within reasonable range of the router while setting it up. Walls, cabinets and radio interference can prevent discovery even when the password is correct.
  • Install Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY from the official App Store or Google Play listing. Check the store listing for current iOS, iPadOS or Android requirements because mobile support can change.
  • If the printer is showing an error screen, press OK to clear it and return to the HOME screen before opening LAN settings.

Keep the router password available during the entire process. If the router broadcasts separate names for its bands, note exactly which SSID the phone is using; the printer and phone need to be on the same network for ordinary discovery and printing. Do not treat a phone’s cellular connection as a substitute for shared Wi‑Fi.

Connect the G3270 to a router with Canon PRINT

Use this route when you want a normal home-network printer that several phones and computers can share. Canon describes cableless setup as requiring a smart device running Canon PRINT that is already connected to the desired active wireless network.

1. Start Wi‑Fi setup on the printer

  1. On the printer’s HOME screen, select Settings.
  2. Choose LAN settings, then Wi‑Fi, then Wi‑Fi setup.
  3. If the display offers Easy Wireless Connect, select it and leave the printer at that prompt while you continue in the phone app.
  4. If Easy Wireless Connect is not shown, remain in the Wi‑Fi setup flow and follow the available on-screen choices. The network icon’s appearance changes with the current connection state, so it may not look the same in every setup.

Easy Wireless Connect puts the printer in a state where Canon PRINT can transfer the wireless-network information. It does not mean that the phone and printer have already completed registration; finish the process in the app and wait for confirmation.

2. Register the printer in Canon PRINT

  1. Open Canon PRINT and use its add-or-register-printer command. Canon may change the wording or location of this command between app versions.
  2. When the G3270 appears, select it.
  3. Choose the wireless router network you want the printer to use.
  4. Enter the router’s Wi‑Fi password exactly, then submit the setup.
  5. Wait for the app to finish registering the printer. Do not close the app or switch the printer off during this step.

If the app asks for permission to find devices on the local network, allow it. The exact permission wording depends on the phone operating system. If the app cannot see the printer, first confirm that the phone is connected to the intended SSID rather than a guest network or a different band with a different name. Canon’s setup procedure is also documented in its Easy Wireless Connect support instructions.

What router Wi‑Fi the G3270 supports

Canon lists the G3270’s wireless LAN as supporting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, with IEEE 802.11b/g/n/a/ac standards. It is therefore not a 2.4-GHz-only printer. For the simplest discovery, make sure the router is broadcasting the band or bands you intend to use and keep the phone and printer on the same SSID. Do not disable router security as a routine troubleshooting step; correct credentials and a compatible network configuration are safer fixes.

After setup, the router remains the central connection point. You can move the phone around the home while it stays on that network, but a phone connected only to mobile data will not ordinarily discover a printer that is sitting on Wi‑Fi. If you later change the SSID or password, the G3270 must be set up again with the new details.

Print from an iPhone or iPad with AirPrint

AirPrint is Apple’s built-in printing path, so you do not have to install Canon PRINT merely to print a document or photo. The printer must already be connected, and the iPhone or iPad must be on the same LAN (or a supported direct connection).

  1. Turn on the G3270 and allow it time to reconnect to Wi‑Fi.
  2. Load paper and open the photo, PDF, email or document you want to print.
  3. Tap the iOS share or action control, then choose Print. In some apps the command is under a three-dot or more-actions menu.
  4. Tap Select Printer or the printer field in Printer Options, then choose PIXMA G3270.
  5. Set the number of copies and any options the app exposes, then tap Print.

Some iOS apps do not support AirPrint and will not show Printer Options. If the G3270 does not appear even in a compatible app, check the shared network first, then confirm that Bonjour is enabled in the printer’s LAN settings. A printer that has just been switched on may also need a short interval to rejoin Wi‑Fi.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Canon PRINT remains an alternative on iOS when you want Canon’s print-and-scan features or prefer the app’s workflow; AirPrint itself does not require that app. Canon lists the app and AirPrint among the G3270’s supported mobile methods on its product support page.

Print from an Android phone

Canon identifies three Android routes for the G3270: Canon PRINT, Mopria Print Service and Canon Print Service. The phone and printer normally need to be on the same Wi‑Fi network when you use a router. Android manufacturers place printing controls in different menus, so the labels below are guides rather than promises that every screen will match.

Canon PRINT

  1. Open Canon PRINT and select the registered G3270.
  2. Choose the print function, select a photo or document, and follow the app’s preview and print controls.
  3. Set copies, paper or other options that the app presents, then send the job.

This is also the most convenient Android route if you still need to complete wireless setup or want to scan from the printer. Keep the app current through the store listing, and check its current operating-system requirements if the phone has recently been updated.

Mopria Print Service

  1. Install or enable Mopria Print Service if your phone does not already provide it.
  2. Open an app that supports Android printing, use its share, menu or three-dot control, and select Print.
  3. Choose the G3270, adjust the available settings and submit the job.

Mopria is intended for compatible, certified printers, and the exact controls differ by Android manufacturer and version. If no printer appears, verify that the service is enabled and return to the same-network checks rather than repeatedly resending the job.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Canon Print Service

Canon Print Service is an Android-only plug-in. Canon’s instructions specify Android 4.4.2 or later, installation and enabling of the plug-in, and a phone and printer connected to the same Wi‑Fi network. After enabling it, open a compatible app, select its print action, choose the Canon printer and confirm the job. Android may place the plug-in switch under Settings > Connected devices > Printing, but the path varies by phone maker and operating-system release. If the plug-in is installed but disabled, it will not appear as an available print service.

Use Wireless Direct when there is no router

Wireless Direct creates a direct phone-to-printer connection, so a home router is not required. Start Wireless Direct from the G3270’s LAN settings, then open Canon PRINT and follow its prompts to connect the phone and print. Use the app’s connection instructions rather than assuming the router Wi‑Fi procedure applies unchanged.

  • The printer does not have internet access while Wireless Direct is active.
  • A phone may fall back to mobile data, which can use the phone plan if Wi‑Fi is no longer carrying internet traffic.
  • Canon specifies a maximum of five simultaneously connected devices.

Because the phone is changing its Wi‑Fi connection, online services may pause or the phone may show a mobile-data indicator. That behavior is expected while the direct link is active. Return the phone to the household router afterward if you need normal internet access and shared printing from other devices. Use router Wi‑Fi for a regular household network when it is available; reserve Wireless Direct for temporary or router-free situations.

When the phone cannot find the G3270

Work through these checks in order. They address the common causes without immediately changing unrelated router settings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm power and readiness. Check that the printer, router and phone are on. If all three were already running, power-cycle them and wait for the router and printer to finish starting.
  2. Check Wi‑Fi on the phone. Make sure Wi‑Fi is enabled and note the SSID shown in the phone’s Wi‑Fi settings.
  3. Check the printer’s network indicator. The Wi‑Fi icon on the G3270 HOME screen should reflect an active connection. If it does not, return to Settings > LAN settings > Wi‑Fi > Wi‑Fi setup and repeat setup.
  4. Match the network exactly. The printer’s SSID and password must match the router, and the phone must be on that same network. A guest SSID, extender network or differently named band can isolate devices even when both show internet access.
  5. Reduce distance and interference. Move the printer closer to the router and remove avoidable walls, cabinets or nearby radio sources while testing.
  6. Set up again after router changes. Re-run the printer setup if you replaced the router or changed its SSID, password or other wireless settings. The old credentials will not automatically become the new ones.
  7. Allow reconnection time. After switching the printer on or changing networks, wait for Wi‑Fi to settle before searching from AirPrint or an Android print menu.
  8. Check the selected print service. On Android, confirm that Mopria or Canon Print Service is enabled if you are not using Canon PRINT. On iPhone or iPad, test from an app known to expose AirPrint before concluding that the printer is unavailable.

Canon’s G3270 support materials recommend checking power, Wi‑Fi status, credentials, distance and changed router settings before escalating. The G3270 supports both 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz Wi‑Fi, so do not assume that the band alone explains every discovery failure. Avoid disabling router security or performing a factory reset until these basic checks are complete.

Print the printer’s network details for diagnosis

If the connection still fails, print the current network configuration directly from the G3270:

  1. Open Settings on the printer.
  2. Select LAN settings.
  3. Choose Print details and confirm.
  4. Select whether the printout should include passwords, then print it.

Compare the SSID and connection information on the sheet with the router and phone. Treat the page as sensitive: if passwords are included, do not leave it where other people can read or photograph it. Canon documents this procedure in its G3070-series network-settings manual, which covers the G3270. Printing the details is a diagnostic step; it does not change the printer’s network configuration.

If setup still fails

When basic checks do not resolve the problem and a computer is available, Canon’s Wi‑Fi Connection Assistant can help diagnose or repair network settings. Use it after confirming the printer’s current status and credentials rather than starting with a router reset or factory reset. A reset can remove working settings without addressing a phone that is simply connected to the wrong SSID. If the assistant reports a setting that differs from the router, correct the printer setup and then test discovery again from the phone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ink and other practical supplies

Wi‑Fi setup does not require a special cable or a paid service. If you also need replacement ink, Canon identifies the G3270 ink system as GI‑21 pigment black and dye-color bottles and lists compatible replacement bottles. Check the exact bottle label and current merchant availability before buying; ink is separate from the wireless setup and does not affect which phone-printing method you choose.

Which method should you keep using?

  • Choose Canon PRINT if you want one Canon workflow for setup, printing and scanning on either major phone platform.
  • Choose AirPrint if you use an iPhone or iPad and want to print from compatible apps without another print application.
  • Choose Mopria or Canon Print Service if you use Android and prefer the system print command; Canon Print Service requires the plug-in to be enabled.
  • Choose Wireless Direct only when a router is unavailable or a temporary direct connection is more useful than shared home-network access.

Once the G3270 and phone are on the same router network, the phone’s native print command or Canon PRINT should be able to select the printer. If discovery stops after a router replacement or Wi‑Fi password change, repeat the printer’s Wi‑Fi setup rather than treating it as a printer hardware fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Canon PIXMA G3270 support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi‑Fi?

Yes. Canon lists 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless LAN support and IEEE 802.11b/g/n/a/ac standards. The phone and printer still need to use the same network for ordinary router printing.

Do I need Canon PRINT to print from an iPhone?

No. AirPrint is built into iOS and iPadOS. Use the share or action menu, choose Print, and select the G3270. Canon PRINT is useful for setup, scanning and Canon-specific controls, but AirPrint does not require it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does my phone show the printer online but not find it?

Confirm that the phone and G3270 are on the same SSID, not a guest or isolated network. Check the printer’s Wi‑Fi icon, move it closer to the router, wait for reconnection, and repeat Wi‑Fi setup if the router name or password changed.

Which Android service should I use?

You can use Canon PRINT, Mopria Print Service, or Canon Print Service. Canon Print Service is an Android plug-in and Canon specifies Android 4.4.2 or later; it must be installed and enabled before it appears in the print menu.

Can I print without a wireless router?

Yes. Wireless Direct connects the phone directly to the G3270 through Canon PRINT. The printer has no internet connection in that mode, and Canon limits simultaneous Wireless Direct connections to five devices.

How can I verify what network the printer is using?

On the printer, select Settings > LAN settings > Print details, confirm, and choose whether to include passwords. Compare the printed SSID and connection information with the router and phone, and protect the printout because it may contain sensitive credentials.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I do after replacing my router?

Run the G3270’s Wi‑Fi setup again and register it in Canon PRINT with the new SSID and password. The old wireless credentials do not automatically change when the router is replaced.

The Bottom Line

For the least trouble, connect the G3270 and phone to the same router Wi‑Fi, then use Canon PRINT, AirPrint, Mopria or Canon Print Service according to your phone. Use Wireless Direct only when a router is unavailable, and check SSID, Wi‑Fi status, distance and changed router credentials before resetting anything.
