There is no documented official Ring-to-Apple Home setup flow. Ring devices are set up and managed in the Ring app. To expose a compatible Ring device in Apple Home, the practical route described by the available documentation is an unofficial Homebridge server running on your home network, plus a maintained Ring plugin. Whether a particular doorbell, camera, alarm component or Smart Lighting device works depends on the plugin and model; do not assume every Ring feature will appear in Apple Home.
Apple’s Matter support does not automatically make Ring compatible. A Ring product would need Matter support itself or an intermediary bridge that presents it to HomeKit. Use the steps below to verify your device first, then install and pair the bridge.

What “connecting Ring to Apple Home” actually means
Ring’s documented setup path starts in the Ring app. Ring says its products require an existing home Wi-Fi network, a phone or tablet, and the Ring app for monitoring and control. The app remains the account-management and device-setup location even when another system later exposes some functions in Apple Home. See Ring’s general product and service information.
Homebridge is a separate, community-maintained server. Its project documentation describes it as “a lightweight Node.js server you can run on your home network to emulate the HomeKit Accessory Protocol (HAP).” A plugin connects that server to a manufacturer’s service, and the Homebridge bridge can then be added to Apple’s Home app. Homebridge is not an Apple or Ring product and is not affiliated with device manufacturers.

Check your Ring device before installing anything
1. Confirm the Ring device works in the Ring app
Complete the normal Ring setup first. Connect the doorbell, camera, alarm component or Smart Lighting product to your home Wi-Fi and verify that live status and controls work in the Ring app. Ring specifically says its devices are designed for home Wi-Fi and do not operate from a mobile-phone hotspot.
2. Identify the exact model
In the Ring app, open the device and look for Device Health. Record the exact product name, not merely “Ring camera” or “Ring doorbell.” Plugin support can vary by model, device category and software changes. The available official sources do not provide a current, comprehensive list of Ring models or functions supported by a Homebridge plugin, so model verification is the point at which you should consult the plugin’s maintained documentation.
3. Check your network requirements
| Requirement | Practical implication |
|---|---|
| Home Wi-Fi | Required for Ring setup and operation. Ring devices do not use a phone hotspot as their operating network. |
| Wi-Fi band | Ring says all devices support 2.4 GHz; some models also support 5 GHz. Use the band supported by your exact model and local network. |
| Bluetooth | Ring states its devices do not support Bluetooth for this purpose. |
| Mobile device | A phone or tablet with the Ring app is required for Ring setup and control. |
| Homebridge host | An always-available computer or server on the same home network is needed for the bridge route. |
Choose a host for Homebridge
Homebridge does not require a new computer. Its project lists installation options for Raspberry Pi, Linux, macOS, Windows, Docker and several NAS platforms. The host must stay powered on and reachable on your local network whenever you expect Apple Home automations or accessories provided by Homebridge to respond.

| Host option | When it makes sense | Important consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Existing Mac or Windows computer | You already have a machine that remains on at home | Putting the computer to sleep or shutting it down interrupts the bridge |
| Linux machine | You already operate a small server | Reserve a stable local address and keep the operating system maintained |
| Raspberry Pi | You want a small, dedicated always-on host | Optional; Homebridge documents an official Raspberry Pi image, but buying a Pi is not mandatory |
| Docker or NAS | Your network already uses containers or a supported NAS | Follow the platform’s networking instructions so Homebridge can discover devices on the LAN |
Install Homebridge using the current instructions for your chosen platform in the Homebridge project documentation. The documentation covers the host choices above; it does not turn a Ring product into a natively supported HomeKit accessory.
Install and configure a Ring plugin
Homebridge itself is the bridge framework. A manufacturer plugin is what attempts to sign in to a service and create accessories. The sources available here do not verify a current Ring plugin’s authentication process, supported models, required permissions, rate limits or feature list. Treat plugin selection as a compatibility check, not as a guaranteed step.
- Search the Homebridge plugin directory or the plugin maintainer’s documentation for a Ring plugin that is actively maintained. Check its update date, issue tracker and explicit model list before installing it.
- Match the plugin’s requirements to your device. Use the exact product name from Ring’s Device Health screen. Look for separate notes about doorbells, cameras, alarms, Smart Lighting, live video, motion events and two-way audio.
- Read the authentication instructions completely. Some plugins may require a Ring account sign-in, a verification code or a token. Do not paste credentials into an untrusted page, and do not disable account security merely to make a plugin work.
- Install the plugin through Homebridge’s interface or the method specified by its maintainer. Enter only the settings the plugin documents. Keep a copy of the working configuration so you can restore it after an update.
- Restart Homebridge and inspect its log. A successful plugin load is not proof that every accessory works. Confirm that your specific device is discovered and note any authentication, region, permission or API errors.
If the plugin documentation does not list your model, stop at this stage rather than assuming that a similar-looking Ring product will behave the same way. The Ring app remains the supported control path.

Add the Homebridge bridge to Apple Home
Once Homebridge is running and the plugin has created accessories, pair the bridge with the iOS Home app. Homebridge’s general setup instructions use a QR code displayed by the Homebridge interface or in its logs.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap Add Accessory (or the + button and then Add Accessory, depending on the current Home app layout).
- Scan the Homebridge QR code shown in the Homebridge interface or logs. If scanning is unavailable, use the HomeKit setup code supplied by Homebridge.
- Accept the warning that the accessory is not certified if Apple displays one, then continue only if you trust the Homebridge host and plugin.
- Assign the bridge and its discovered accessories to the appropriate home and rooms.
- Test each exposed switch, sensor, notification or camera from Apple Home while the Ring app is also available for comparison.
Homebridge notes that cameras and most televisions are exposed as separate accessories and may need separate pairing. Therefore, pairing the main bridge does not guarantee that a Ring camera will appear automatically. Follow the Ring plugin’s camera-specific instructions if it provides them; the general Homebridge instructions do not establish which Ring cameras currently work.
What you can and cannot expect in Apple Home
Doorbells and cameras
A compatible plugin may expose a doorbell or camera, but the available documentation does not confirm current support for any particular Ring model. Even when a camera appears, the feature set may differ from the Ring app. Verify live view, motion events, doorbell presses, two-way audio and snapshots individually instead of treating one successful feature as proof that all others work.

Alarm and Smart Lighting devices
Ring’s product range includes Alarm and Smart Lighting as well as doorbells and cameras. No source reviewed here establishes which of those categories a current Homebridge plugin supports. Check the plugin’s model and accessory list before planning scenes or automations around them.
Notifications and automations
Apple Home automations depend on the accessory services the plugin exposes. A Ring event that exists in the Ring app might not be represented as a HomeKit sensor or trigger. Build an automation only after confirming that the corresponding accessory and event are visible in Apple Home and remain available after a Homebridge restart.

Apple documents that Matter accessories can be added through the Home app and used with Apple Home, Siri and Control Center. Best Value
- AI-Powered Smart Detection: Advanced AI technology accurately identifies people while filtering out vehicles and animals, so you only get the alerts that matter most
- Secure Cloud Storage: Protect your recordings with AES-128 encrypted cloud storage
- Pre-Capture Recording: Cloud subscribers benefit from pre-capture functionality, ensuring the camera starts recording right at the moment motion begins - never miss a thing

A Ring device would need to support Matter itself, or another bridge would need to expose it as a compatible accessory. The available material does not identify Ring products as Matter accessories, so do not enter a Ring setup code in Apple Home expecting the device to be found unless Ring’s current documentation for your exact model says it is Matter-compatible.
Subscriptions and recorded video
Ring states that live video and answering doorbell notifications do not require a Ring subscription. Saving, reviewing and sharing recorded video requires a compatible subscription, according to Ring’s service information. That statement describes Ring’s own service; the sources reviewed do not establish whether video presented through a Homebridge plugin has identical recording, playback or sharing behavior.
Keep the Ring app installed even after pairing Homebridge. It is the documented place for Ring account management, device health, subscription controls and the complete set of Ring-specific functions.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
| Symptom | Likely check | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Ring device cannot be set up | Wi-Fi or mobile-hotspot configuration | Use the home Wi-Fi network supported by the model, not a phone hotspot, and complete setup in the Ring app. |
| Homebridge cannot discover the Ring device | Model support or plugin status | Recheck the exact Device Health name, plugin documentation, plugin logs and account authentication. |
| The bridge appears in Home but no camera does | Separate camera pairing or unsupported camera feature | Follow the plugin’s camera instructions. Homebridge’s general documentation treats cameras as separate accessories. |
| Accessories disappear when you leave home | Host availability or local-network failure | Confirm that the Homebridge host is powered on, connected to the same network and not asleep; then inspect Homebridge logs. |
| Live view works but recordings do not | Ring subscription or unsupported bridged function | Check Ring’s subscription requirements and the plugin’s documented video capabilities. Do not assume Homebridge reproduces Ring’s recording service. |
| Pairing code is rejected | Wrong code, stale bridge state or Home app pairing record | Use the current QR or setup code shown by Homebridge, remove only the failed bridge entry, restart Homebridge and retry according to its current instructions. |
Security and maintenance considerations
- Keep the Ring account secure. Use the authentication method and permissions documented by the plugin; never publish account tokens or configuration files.
- Update deliberately. Homebridge, plugins, the Ring app and Apple’s operating systems can change independently. Read a plugin’s release notes before updating if your automations are important.
- Keep a recovery path. The Ring app is the supported control surface. If Homebridge fails, you should still be able to view and manage the device there.
- Use a stable network. A bridge depends on local connectivity, while the Ring service and Apple Home may each report different symptoms when Wi-Fi or internet access is degraded.
- Limit exposure. Homebridge is a server on your home network. Apply normal server hygiene: strong account credentials, current software, restricted administrative access and backups of configuration without exposing secrets.
When Homebridge is the right choice
Homebridge is reasonable if you already have a suitable always-on host, accept community-plugin maintenance and need selected Ring events or controls in Apple Home. It is not a guaranteed substitute for native HomeKit support: model coverage, camera behavior, authentication and future compatibility depend on the plugin.
If you require dependable native Apple Home video, broad HomeKit feature coverage or a vendor-supported setup, compare your Ring device’s capabilities with Apple’s current compatible-accessory listings and the manufacturer documentation before replacing hardware. No specific replacement model is established by the sources used here.
Bottom line
Set up and verify the Ring device in the Ring app first. Then, if your exact model is supported by a maintained Ring plugin, run Homebridge on an always-available home-network host and pair its bridge in Apple Home by scanning the Homebridge QR code. Expect compatibility and feature limits, pair cameras separately when instructed, and do not treat Apple’s general Matter support as proof that Ring works natively.
