RayNeo GT Max connects directly to a phone, laptop, or handheld only when its USB-C port sends video using DisplayPort over USB-C (DP Alt Mode) or compatible Thunderbolt video. For an HDMI source, use RayNeo’s HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter; a Lightning device needs Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter as well. The glasses draw power from the connected source.

Choose the connection path for your device

Device output What you need Connection and power
USB-C with DisplayPort video The USB-C cable included with GT Max Connect the source directly to the glasses. The source provides power, video, and audio.
HDMI RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter, sold separately, plus the included USB-C cable Connect the adapter to the source’s HDMI output and then to the glasses. The source provides power.
Lightning Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter, RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter, and the included USB-C cable Connect Lightning to Apple’s adapter, its HDMI output to RayNeo’s adapter, and then the glasses.

The connector shape alone does not establish compatibility: a USB-C port may support charging or data without video. RayNeo’s GT Series support guidance cautions, “A USB-C connector does not always support video output.” RayNeo’s GT Series connection guidance names iPhone 15 Pro and Steam Deck as examples of USB-C devices, but check the exact model and port.

Connect over USB-C video

  1. Confirm video output. Check the device’s specifications for “DisplayPort over USB-C,” “DP Alt Mode,” or compatible Thunderbolt video output. If the specification is unclear, ask the device maker about the exact model and port.
  2. Connect the cable. Use the USB-C cable included with GT Max to connect the video-capable port to the glasses.
  3. Turn on the source. RayNeo says the glasses turn on when they detect compatible power and video.
  4. Set the display mode if needed. On a computer, choose mirroring or extended display in its display settings. The menu and available choices vary by computer.

Connect an HDMI computer or console

RayNeo lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and computers with HDMI output as examples of sources for its HDMI adapter. The adapter is sold separately; it is not needed for a source that already provides compatible USB-C DisplayPort video.

  1. Connect RayNeo’s HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter to the source’s HDMI output.
  2. Connect the adapter to GT Max with the glasses’ included USB-C cable.
  3. Turn on the source. The glasses should detect compatible power and video and display the source.

Connect an iPhone or iPad with Lightning

Lightning devices need both an Apple adapter and RayNeo’s HDMI adapter. RayNeo gives iPhone 14 Pro and ninth-generation iPad as examples of this connection path.

Understand power, display settings, and the XR App

Power comes from the connected device

GT Max has no built-in battery. The connected source supplies power as well as video and audio, so expect the source’s battery to drain during use. The glasses’ USB-C port is not a charging port. RayNeo’s GT Series support page explains the power behavior.

The app is optional for basic display use

You do not need the RayNeo XR App for basic mirroring or using the glasses as an external display. RayNeo lists additional app functions such as SBS 3D playback, AI 2D-to-3D conversion, spatial photo and video viewing, media import, firmware updates, and device settings. Availability depends on the connected device, operating system, app version, and glasses firmware. The app cannot make a port without video output send a picture.

If the glasses do not show a picture

  • Check the exact port. Verify that the port in use supports DisplayPort video over USB-C or compatible Thunderbolt video. A different port on the same computer may have different capabilities.
  • Check the display mode. Review the source’s display settings and select mirroring or extended display where applicable.
  • Recheck the adapter chain. For HDMI, use RayNeo’s HDMI adapter; for Lightning, connect the Apple adapter before RayNeo’s HDMI adapter.
  • Check model-specific compatibility. RayNeo notes that compatibility can vary with regional differences, manufacturer software updates, and other factors. A list for another RayNeo glasses family does not establish compatibility with GT Max. RayNeo’s compatibility guidance recommends checking device specifications and exact support.
