Linking lets you show your PSN identity and gaming activity on Discord; on PS5, it also enables Discord voice chat. It does not install a standalone Discord app on the console.
What linking Discord to PlayStation does
The connection has two separate uses: sharing your PlayStation identity and activity on Discord, and using Discord voice chat on a PS5. Activity sharing works with PS4 and PS5; console voice chat is a PS5 feature. Sony says PlayStation Plus is not required for linking or activity sharing.

After linking, you can independently choose whether your Discord profile shows your PSN Online ID and whether it displays your PlayStation activity. Depending on your settings and privacy, that activity can include the game you are playing and how long you have been playing. Discord explains the connection and its display options; PlayStation’s guide covers linking and shared status.
Link your Discord account to PlayStation
The quickest route for most people is through Discord. You can also start the process from PlayStation Account Management or directly on a PS5. Menu labels may change as either service updates its interface.

Use Discord on desktop, web, or mobile
- Open Discord and go to User Settings > Connections on desktop or web. In the mobile app, open User Settings > Connection.
- Select the PlayStation Network icon. Discord opens a browser authorization window.
- Sign in with the PlayStation Network account you want to link, then approve the connection.
- Return to Discord and check for the linked-account confirmation.
Start from PlayStation
- PlayStation Account Management: Sign in, then open Linked Services > Discord and follow the authorization steps.
- PS5: Open Control Center > Game Base > Discord > Link Account and complete the on-screen steps.
Choose what Discord displays
Linking an account does not automatically mean every detail is visible. In Discord’s User Settings > Connections, open the PlayStation connection and set the profile and activity display options you want. The PSN Online ID display and PlayStation status display are separate choices, so you can enable one without the other.
For PlayStation activity to appear, your PSN privacy settings must also allow it. Set Online Status and Now Playing visibility to Anyone, and make sure your account is not appearing offline. Then refresh Discord and check your profile.

Use Discord voice chat on a PS5
Once the account is linked, you can join Discord voice chat from the PS5’s Game Base Discord tab. You can also start or join a voice chat on Discord mobile, desktop, or browser and transfer it to the linked PS5. Current PS5 system software is required. Discord voice chat cannot be used at the same time as a PlayStation Party, according to Discord’s PlayStation FAQ.

If you linked your accounts before PS5 voice transfer was available, you may need to link them again to enable the feature. Discord notes an exception for people who participated in the PS5 voice-transfer beta.

Fix common linking and status problems
- Your PlayStation activity is missing: Check that Online Status and Now Playing privacy is set to Anyone, confirm your PSN account is not appearing offline, and refresh Discord.
- Discord shows computer activity instead: Computer activity may take priority over PlayStation presence. Rich presence from another activity can also take precedence over basic PSN presence.
- Voice chat options are missing on PS5: Check that the PS5 has current system software and that the accounts are linked. If the link predates voice transfer, unlink and link again unless you took part in the beta.
- You use a child account: Whether activity display is available can depend on age and location. A parent or family manager can manage communication access through PlayStation parental controls.
Unlink Discord and PlayStation
In Discord, open User Settings > Connections, select the X beside PlayStation, and confirm Disconnect. You can also unlink through PlayStation Account Management or the PS5 linked-services settings. The available menu wording can vary by interface version.
