To connect Castr to a YouTube channel, create a livestream in Castr, add YouTube as a destination, then either authorize your Google account through Castr or paste in the YouTube stream URL and key. The workflow documented by Castr is general, not India-specific: choose an ingest region close to where you are sending the stream, and confirm that your YouTube channel is eligible to livestream before setup.
Before you connect Castr to YouTube
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is the first time you have enabled live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and its encoder setup instructions.
- Sign in to the Google account that manages the channel you want to use. For a manual setup, you will also need access to that channel’s Live Control Room.
- Check your Castr subscription’s destination limit before adding YouTube. Castr says the number of destinations available depends on the plan.
- Make sure your internet connection has enough outbound bandwidth for the stream bitrate, with headroom for normal variation. YouTube recommends leaving upload capacity beyond the bitrate you intend to send; see its streaming tips.
Create a livestream and add YouTube in Castr
- Create the livestream. In Castr, start by creating a livestream and choose a hosting region close to the location from which you will send your broadcast. Castr’s live-stream setup guide, published August 4, 2026, describes this as part of creating a stream.
- Add YouTube as a destination. Open the stream dashboard, add a destination, and select YouTube.
- Choose the connection method. Use account/API linking if you want to authorize YouTube and select or create event details while working in Castr. Use the server/key method if you prefer to configure the YouTube encoder stream in YouTube Studio and provide its credentials to Castr.
Castr documented both options in its YouTube connection guide (May 19, 2023). Labels and dashboard placement can change, so look for the corresponding YouTube destination and setup choices if the exact wording differs.

Option 1: Connect by authorizing your Google account
- When configuring the YouTube destination in Castr, select Connect to YouTube Events.
- Sign in to Google if prompted, then choose the YouTube channel you want to connect.
- Choose an existing event or enter event details in Castr, then create the platform/destination.
- Confirm the event appears on the intended YouTube channel before you start sending the live source.
This route depends on Google authorization and the permissions available to the account. If authorization does not complete, or your account does not show the intended channel, use the manual server/key method instead. The available documentation does not establish that account-linking behavior is identical for every account.
Option 2: Connect with a YouTube stream URL and key
- Open YouTube Studio for the correct channel and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create or select an encoder stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube explains stream configuration in its encoder instructions.
- Return to the YouTube destination setup in Castr and select the server/key configuration option.
- Paste the YouTube stream URL and stream key into the matching Castr fields, then create the platform/destination.
- Edit the stream description in YouTube Studio if needed. Castr notes that the description must be edited in YouTube’s dashboard when using the stream-key route.
A stream key is a credential that lets an encoder send video to your YouTube stream. Keep it private: do not show it in screenshots or share it in public notes. YouTube says channel owners or managers can reset a key; see Manage live stream settings. If you think it has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the value in Castr.

Check the stream before going live
- Start sending your live source to Castr and wait for the destination to receive it.
- Open the stream’s preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Check that video and audio are present, the right event and channel are selected, and the stream is not showing an error.
- Check the event’s availability from the channel and watch pages before sharing the link with viewers.
- Keep enough upload bandwidth available for the outgoing bitrate. If the preview buffers or drops, reduce the source bitrate or resolve the local network bottleneck before starting the public broadcast.
YouTube says encoder streams running for less than 12 hours are archived automatically. Do not treat that as an archive guarantee for a broadcast lasting 12 hours or longer; see YouTube’s encoder guidance.
What changes for creators in India?
The documented Castr-to-YouTube setup does not describe a separate India-only connection route, country-specific server address, or performance guarantee for a particular Indian internet provider. Castr’s general recommendation is to select an ingest region close to the broadcaster. Your YouTube account must still meet YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements, and the available guides do not establish that every Google account will behave identically during authorization.

Troubleshooting
The YouTube channel does not appear during account linking
- Check that you signed in with the Google account that manages the intended channel.
- Confirm the channel can livestream. A channel that is unverified or restricted may not be able to start a stream.
- If authorization still does not present the channel, try the server/key method rather than assuming the account-linking route is available for your account.
YouTube does not show an incoming signal
- Check that the source is live and the Castr YouTube destination is enabled.
- Verify that the URL and key in Castr match the stream selected in YouTube Studio. If you reset the key, replace the old one in Castr.
- Check the Castr destination status and the YouTube Live Control Room preview, then confirm your outbound connection can sustain the source bitrate.
The source is offline or a later broadcast will not connect cleanly
Castr advises turning the destination off while the source is offline, then enabling it when the source is live. This can help avoid connection problems on a later broadcast.

The stream works, but the description is wrong or missing
If you connected with the server/key method, edit the description in YouTube Studio. Castr’s guide specifies that this metadata must be managed in YouTube’s dashboard for that route.
The event is not available to viewers
Check the event and channel in YouTube Studio, then verify the event from the channel or watch page before sharing it. Also review the stream preview for errors and confirm that the channel is not subject to a live-stream restriction.

Copyright and monetization checks
Before streaming, make sure you have the rights needed for the video, music, and other material in the broadcast. YouTube may enforce copyright and live-stream policies independently of how the signal is sent through Castr. Connecting a channel does not require monetization. If you want to enable ads through Castr’s YouTube destination, Castr says you need to participate in the YouTube Partner Program and have ads enabled in YouTube Studio’s Earn tab; details are in its YouTube monetization guide, published February 4, 2026.
