How to Connect Android XR Glasses to an Android Phone: What’s Confirmed and How to Set Up Your Model

There is no universal Android XR glasses pairing procedure that Google currently publishes. Android XR AI glasses are described as lightweight companion devices that connect to a primary device such as a smartphone, but Google has not identified a consumer glasses model, required phone version, companion app, or model-specific first-time setup sequence in its current help material. The correct steps therefore depend on the exact glasses and their manufacturer.

Do not use the Android XR headset setup guide as a glasses guide, and do not assume that instructions for pairing a Bluetooth accessory to an XR headset will connect glasses to an Android phone. Use the model maker’s compatibility and onboarding instructions for the glasses you own.

What Android XR glasses are—and what they are not

Google’s Android Enterprise description separates AI glasses from full Android XR devices. It describes AI glasses as “Lightweight, companion devices that connect to a primary device, like a smartphone.” In practical terms, the phone is expected to provide some of the computing, connectivity, account, or assistant functions while the glasses act as the wearable interface.

That is different from an XR headset. A headset is an Android XR device in its own right. Google’s headset documentation covers wearing and adjusting the headset, completing on-device onboarding, joining Wi‑Fi, signing in to a Google Account, selecting recommended apps, setting a screen lock, and changing headset settings. Those instructions assume that the headset itself has a display, operating environment, and setup flow. They do not describe first-time enrollment of companion glasses with a phone.

Pair that with HARMAN AudioEFX: deeper bass, wider soundstage, and crystal-clear highs tuned by the world's leading audio engineers. Other XR glasses make you choose between picture and sound. The Beast gives you both — cranked to eleven.

The distinction matters because the label “Android XR” can refer to more than one category. A headset may be able to complete setup without a phone, while glasses may depend on a phone app or another primary device. Treating them as interchangeable can lead you to install the wrong software, look for controls that do not exist, or reset a device unnecessarily.

What Google currently documents

Device category Documented role Documented setup or connection What the instructions do not establish
Android XR AI glasses Companion device connected to a primary device such as a smartphone Google’s Android Enterprise help identifies the companion relationship A specific retail model, compatible phone list, companion app, pairing screen, button sequence, or reset process
Android XR headset Standalone Android XR device On-device setup, Wi‑Fi selection, Google Account sign-in, recommended apps, screen-lock and related settings How to enroll companion glasses with an Android phone
Bluetooth accessory connected to an XR device Peripheral paired to an XR device From the XR home screen, open Quick Settings, choose Bluetooth, put the accessory in pairing mode, and follow the prompts How to pair Android XR glasses directly to an Android phone

Google’s Bluetooth help page is specifically about an accessory connecting to an XR device. It is not a phone-to-glasses procedure. A previously paired accessory may reconnect automatically, but that behavior does not prove that glasses use the same process or that a phone can discover them from the ordinary Bluetooth settings screen.

Why a model-specific guide is essential

“Android XR glasses” is a platform description, not a complete product specification. Different glasses could use different radios, companion applications, account systems, permissions, charging arrangements, and recovery methods. One model might expose a standard Bluetooth connection; another could require an in-app association flow; another might use a manufacturer account or a separate primary device.

Before attempting setup, identify all of the following:

  • The exact product name and hardware revision printed on the frame, case, packaging, or receipt.
  • The manufacturer’s official phone-compatibility page and the minimum Android version it lists.
  • The required companion application, if one exists, and the official store listing for that application.
  • Whether the maker requires an account, Wi‑Fi during setup, a particular language or region, or a firmware update.
  • The documented way to enter pairing mode, cancel pairing mode, and perform a factory reset.
  • The permissions the app requests and the reason the maker gives for each one.

If you cannot find those details for the exact model, stop before guessing. Installing an app with a similar name, holding a button for an undocumented period, or buying a Bluetooth adapter can make troubleshooting harder and may not be relevant to the glasses at all.

A safe setup workflow for the exact glasses model

The following is a responsible framework for using the maker’s instructions. It is not an Android XR glasses procedure published by Google. The model’s manual takes precedence at every step.

1. Confirm phone compatibility

Read the manufacturer’s compatibility page with the phone’s exact model and Android version in hand. “Android phone” is not a guarantee of support: the glasses may require a newer Android release, specific Bluetooth capabilities, a 64-bit device, a particular region, or Google services. Record the compatibility requirement before installing anything.

  • [Comfort Reminder]:For your comfort and the best viewing experience, we suggest giving your eyes (and yourself) a 10-minute break after every 30 minutes of use.

2. Prepare both devices

Charge the glasses and their case or battery according to the maker’s directions. Charge the phone as well, and keep both devices close together. If the glasses have a physical power switch, turn them on using the documented method. Do not infer that a charging light, touch area, or temple button is a pairing control unless the manual says so.

3. Install only the official companion software

Use the manufacturer’s support page or the store link printed in the manual to locate the companion app. Check the developer name, product name, and supported Android versions. Avoid unofficial APK files, “universal XR glasses” utilities, and apps that ask for credentials unrelated to the maker. If no official app is listed, the maker’s documentation should explain whether setup uses Android system Bluetooth or another method.

4. Follow the maker’s pairing-mode instructions

Put the glasses into pairing or association mode exactly as documented. The required action could involve opening the charging case, pressing a button, tapping a control, or starting the process from the companion app. Because no universal sequence is established, do not substitute the headset’s Quick Settings path or a guessed long press.

5. Complete association in the documented location

Some products begin discovery inside their app; others may direct you to Android’s Bluetooth settings first and then return to the app. Follow the model’s screen-by-screen instructions, including any confirmation code or device-name selection. If Android displays a permission request, read it rather than approving every request automatically.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

6. Grant only the permissions the setup requires

Nearby-device, Bluetooth, microphone, notification, camera, location, or accessibility permissions can have different purposes depending on the product. The maker should explain which are needed for discovery, calls, notifications, voice features, or background operation. If a permission is optional, you can usually defer it and test basic connection first. If setup cannot continue, consult the model’s explanation instead of assuming that every Android XR product needs the same permission set.

7. Finish account, network, and firmware steps

If the app requests a manufacturer account, create or sign in to it only through the official app. Connect the phone to the network specified by the maker and keep the glasses nearby while firmware installs. Do not interrupt power during an update. A firmware update may change the pairing process or add phone support, so note the installed version after setup.

8. Test the functions you actually need

Test the connection while the phone is unlocked and again after the screen turns off, if the maker claims background operation. Check the functions relevant to you—notifications, calls, audio, camera access, voice commands, navigation, or translations—one at a time. A device can show as connected while a required permission, account, or network service is still unavailable.

9. Save the recovery information

Keep the manual, support URL, app name, firmware version, and documented reset sequence. If you later replace the phone, lend the glasses to someone, or remove the app, these details determine whether you should unpair, sign out, reset, or simply reconnect. Do not factory-reset the glasses until the maker’s instructions say when a reset is appropriate.

General checks when connection fails

These checks are general troubleshooting advice, not verified Android XR glasses steps. Use them only alongside the exact model’s instructions.

  • The glasses are not detected: verify that they are charged and powered on, keep them close to the phone, and confirm that the documented pairing mode is active. Leave other nearby phones or tablets that may have previously paired with the glasses out of range temporarily.
  • The app cannot find the glasses: confirm that you installed the correct app and that the phone meets the maker’s Android requirement. Review the app’s nearby-device, Bluetooth, location, notification, or other requested permissions against the manufacturer’s explanation.
  • Android sees a device but setup fails: follow the maker’s instructions for removing an incomplete association, then start the documented pairing flow again. Do not repeatedly select an old entry if the manual says to use the app’s “add device” control.
  • The glasses connect briefly and disconnect: check battery level, firmware, background-operation restrictions, and whether another phone is trying to reconnect. The maker may require the companion app to remain signed in or exempted from battery optimization.
  • Calls or audio work but notifications do not: review notification access and per-app notification settings. A Bluetooth connection alone does not guarantee that Android will forward notifications or that the glasses support every profile.
  • A reset seems necessary: use only the official reset sequence and understand what it erases. Resetting may remove accounts, stored preferences, firmware settings, or prior phone associations.

If those checks do not resolve the problem, contact the glasses maker with the exact model, phone model, Android version, companion-app version, firmware version, and the point at which setup fails. This information is more useful than reporting only that “Android XR will not pair.”

Do not confuse three different Bluetooth scenarios

Glasses to phone

This is the connection in the title. The correct method is model-dependent and has not been specified by Google in the Android XR help pages cited above. The maker’s phone compatibility and onboarding documentation is authoritative.

Accessory to XR headset

Google documents a different flow for an accessory connecting to an XR device: open the XR device’s home screen, use Quick Settings, select Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth on, place the accessory in pairing mode according to its own guide, and follow the on-screen prompts. Previously paired accessories may reconnect automatically. Those directions concern the headset as the host device, not an Android phone as the host for companion glasses.

Phone app to a companion device

A manufacturer app may handle discovery, account enrollment, permissions, firmware, and ongoing features after the initial association. If the app is part of the model’s design, Android’s normal Bluetooth list may show an entry without completing the product’s setup. The app’s instructions determine which screen to use.

What Android’s companion-device API means

Android provides a companion-device pairing API for developers. On Android 8.0 (API level 26) and later, an app can use the system to perform an initial Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi scan and association without requesting ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION for that association flow. That is implementation context, not a consumer recipe for Android XR glasses.

  • 【iPhone 17/16/15 Series Support | Adapter Ultra Unlocks iOS XR Features】 Luma Ultra can display content from compatible USB-C video-output iPhone 17/16/15 series devices. For the full SpaceWalker experience on iOS, pair it with the USB-C XR Charging Adapter Ultra(Launching Soon) to enable features such as 3DoF head tracking and multi-screen functionality. iPhone 16e and iPhone 17 Air are not compatible with VITURE XR Glasses. Older adapters, including the standard USB-C XR Charging Adapter and HDMI XR Adapter, do not support Luma Ultra.

The Android Developers documentation makes the limitation explicit: “Companion device pairing doesn’t create connections on its own nor enable continuous scanning.” After association, the app still has to establish and manage the actual Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi connection through the appropriate connectivity APIs. Therefore, seeing a device associated with an app does not by itself prove that data, audio, notifications, or other features are connected.

This also explains why two products can present different setup screens while both use Android. The API gives developers a way to associate a companion device; it does not prescribe the glasses’ buttons, app design, permissions, firmware process, or supported phone models.

What is known about availability

Google’s December 12, 2024 announcement about Android XR described future glasses capabilities such as directions, translations, and message summaries and referred to tests with prototypes. That announcement describes platform direction and prototype work; it is not a current retail product list or proof of compatibility with a particular Android phone.

As of October 2026, the Google help material identified here still does not provide a consumer glasses model with a complete phone-pairing walkthrough. A setup article that names an app, Android version, button sequence, or permissions without tying them to a manufacturer’s published model guide would be guessing.

Questions to answer before buying or configuring glasses

When a specific model becomes available, use these questions to evaluate whether its setup will fit your phone and needs:

  • Which phone models and Android versions are officially supported?
  • Is setup performed in an app, Android Bluetooth settings, an account portal, or a combination?
  • Is an internet connection required only for activation, or for everyday features?
  • Which permissions are required for discovery, calls, notifications, cameras, microphones, and background operation?
  • Can basic audio or controls work when the companion app is closed or the phone is offline?
  • How are a second phone, a replacement phone, or a previously paired phone handled?
  • What is the official unpair, factory-reset, and recovery procedure?
  • Does the maker publish firmware-release notes and a support path for failed updates?

These questions prevent a common mistake: judging compatibility from the phrase “works with Android” while overlooking a required app, account, Android release, region, or background permission.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Following headset onboarding: Wi‑Fi selection, Google Account sign-in, and headset screen-lock setup belong to the XR headset guide unless the glasses maker explicitly adopts them.
  • Using the headset’s Bluetooth menu as a universal solution: that menu is documented for accessories connecting to an XR device, not for glasses connecting to a phone.
  • Guessing a pairing button or gesture: incorrect attempts can turn the glasses off, trigger a reset, or leave them connected to another phone.
  • Installing an unrelated app: similar product names and unofficial APKs can expose credentials or create a support problem.
  • Assuming any Android phone will work: support can depend on Android version, hardware, region, account services, and app availability.
  • Buying an adapter before reading the manual: no generic Bluetooth adapter, USB cable, or replacement part is established as necessary for Android XR glasses.
  • Repeating a failed pairing without clearing the documented state: use the maker’s unpair or reset instructions rather than accumulating stale entries.

Where to get a definitive procedure

The definitive instructions must come from the glasses manufacturer for the exact model and hardware revision. Look for a page titled setup, pair, connect, first use, or phone compatibility, and check its publication or update date. If the page is missing, ask support whether the glasses are commercially available, which phones are supported, whether a companion app is required, and how to enter and exit pairing mode.

When contacting support, provide the model number, phone model, Android version, region, app version, firmware version, battery state, and any error text. Do not send account passwords, recovery codes, or unnecessary personal data. A clear support record can distinguish a compatibility limitation from a permission problem or a defective unit.

The practical answer

Android XR glasses are intended to work as companions to a primary device, often a smartphone, but Google has not published one universal consumer setup flow. Identify the exact glasses, verify the phone and Android-version requirements, use only the maker’s official app or pairing method, and treat headset onboarding and XR-device Bluetooth instructions as separate procedures. Until a model-specific guide is available, any more detailed button sequence or app recommendation would be speculation.
