The best connection is HDMI ARC/eARC: run an HDMI cable from the port labeled ARC or eARC on the Vizio TV to the ARC port on the onn soundbar, then select HDMI ARC on the soundbar. If either device lacks ARC, use an optical cable between their optical ports. AUX and Bluetooth are fallbacks that depend entirely on your exact models.
Check ports before you buy or plug in anything
Brand names do not guarantee compatibility. onn sells several soundbars (for example 2.1 and 5.1 models) with different input sets, and Vizio TVs differ in whether they offer ARC/eARC, optical output or analog output. Look at the back or side panels of both devices and note which of these labels you can find: HDMI ARC / eARC, OPTICAL (digital audio out on the TV, optical in on the soundbar), and AUX.

If you do not know the soundbar’s model number, onn support has a manual lookup page that explains where to find it and gives model-specific manuals. Use the manual to confirm ports, included cables and supported formats. Some onn packages include an optical cable, so check the box before buying one.

No single method is best for every pair. Prefer ARC if both ports exist, then optical, based on the ports you actually have.

Connect with HDMI ARC/eARC
- Find the HDMI port marked ARC or eARC on the Vizio TV and the one on the soundbar. An ordinary HDMI input is not necessarily ARC-capable.
- Connect the two ports with an HDMI cable.
- Turn on the soundbar and select its HDMI ARC input.
- In the Vizio TV settings, enable ARC and HDMI-CEC / System Audio Control if needed. Menu names vary by model, so follow your TV’s manual.
- Play something and test sound and volume from the TV remote.
The onn soundbar guide notes that CEC setting names differ between TV manufacturers and directs you to the TV manual. That is why no single Vizio menu path is given here.
Connect with optical audio
- Plug an optical cable into the TV’s Digital Audio Out (OPTICAL) port and the soundbar’s OPTICAL input. Push until it seats fully, after removing any protective caps.
- Select Optical on the soundbar.
- If there is no sound, check the Vizio’s digital audio output or audio format setting and the soundbar manual’s supported formats.
An onn TV manual (model 100002461) tells users to set digital output to PCM for its optical setup. That instruction is for those onn TVs, not a confirmed Vizio menu path, though PCM is a sensible thing to look for in your Vizio’s audio settings if the soundbar stays silent.

Connect with AUX
Use this only if the Vizio TV has an analog audio output and the soundbar has an AUX input. Depending on the jacks, you need a 3.5 mm stereo cable or a 3.5 mm-to-RCA cable. Confirm the jack types on both devices before buying, connect them, and select AUX on the soundbar.

Connect with Bluetooth
The onn manuals include Bluetooth instructions for some models, but Bluetooth works only if the TV can transmit audio and the soundbar can receive it. Many TVs cannot send audio over Bluetooth, so verify this in the Vizio manual first. If it is supported, put the soundbar in pairing mode as described in its manual, then choose the soundbar in the TV’s audio or Bluetooth settings.

Troubleshooting
No sound over HDMI
Confirm the cable is in the ARC/eARC port on both devices, that the soundbar is on HDMI ARC, and that the TV’s ARC/CEC audio output settings are enabled.
No sound over optical
Reseat the cable at both ends, confirm the soundbar is on Optical, then check the TV’s digital audio output format against the formats the soundbar supports.

Sound works but the TV remote does not control volume
Check HDMI-CEC / System Audio Control on the TV and make sure the soundbar is on the ARC input. This control path depends on HDMI ARC and CEC support; with optical or AUX, use the soundbar’s own remote.
No sound over Bluetooth
Re-enter pairing mode on the soundbar, remove any old pairing, and confirm the TV supports Bluetooth audio output. Steps vary by Vizio model.
