You can connect an iPhone to a Windows PC in several ways, depending on what you want to do: use Phone Link for selected calls, messages, and notifications; use a cable and Apple Devices for files that support file sharing; or use iCloud for ongoing photo and file syncing. For photos, choose between recent-photo access, a one-time import, and a cloud-synced library.
Choose the connection method for your task
| Method | Best for | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Phone Link | Calls, messages, and notifications on the PC | Pairs over Bluetooth. Microsoft lists Windows 10 with the May 2019 Update or later, or Windows 11. Its current support text says an iPhone app download is optional. This provides selected phone features, not full iPhone mirroring. |
| Apple Devices for Windows | One-time wired file transfer | Connect by cable. Only files in iPhone apps that support file sharing can be transferred. |
| iCloud for Windows | Ongoing syncing of files and photos | Uses Apple’s cloud service to transfer files automatically; iCloud Photos is one documented example. |
| Windows Photos and Apple import guidance | Getting photos onto the PC | Microsoft points to Phone Link for recent photos and to Apple’s import and iCloud Photos instructions for other workflows. |
Use Phone Link for calls, messages, and notifications
Phone Link is the Windows option when you want selected iPhone features available on your PC. Microsoft says it supports calls, messages, and notifications, with the devices paired over Bluetooth. See Microsoft’s Phone Link requirements and setup for the current requirements and pairing prompts.

- Open Phone Link on the Windows PC and start the iPhone pairing flow.
- Make sure Bluetooth is available and enabled on the PC and iPhone.
- Follow the pairing prompts shown on both devices, then grant any requested permissions needed for the features you plan to use.
Phone Link should not be treated as a full iPhone desktop experience: Microsoft’s reviewed support information documents selected functions, not complete screen mirroring or full message-history parity with Android. The current requirements page does not state a minimum iOS version. Microsoft’s April 26, 2023 launch announcement listed iOS 14 or later for the launch-era feature; that historical requirement is not confirmation of today’s minimum. Microsoft’s rollout announcement.

Transfer supported files with a cable
For a direct wired transfer, connect the iPhone to the PC and use Apple Devices for Windows. The transfer is limited to files in iPhone apps that support file sharing; it is not a general way to browse every app’s private storage. Follow Apple’s instructions for transferring files between an iPhone and a Windows computer.

Sync photos and files through iCloud
Choose iCloud for Windows when you want ongoing syncing rather than a single cable transfer. Apple describes automatic file transfer between iPhone and Windows, including iCloud Photos appearing on the PC. Set it up using Apple’s iCloud for Windows instructions.
Cloud syncing is distinct from importing photos once: it depends on using iCloud and configuring the relevant sync options, rather than connecting the phone each time you want to move items. Microsoft also directs readers to Apple’s iCloud Photos download guidance as a way to get photos onto Windows.
