The reliable way to put an HP ENVY Pro 6455 on your Wi-Fi is to follow HP’s own setup flow for this model, which guides you through joining your network from a phone or computer. This guide covers what to prepare, how to work through setup, and what to check when the printer won’t connect. It deliberately avoids exact button-hold timings and screen labels, because HP changes those and its model page is the authority for them.
Start with HP’s official pages for this model
HP maintains a model-specific page, HP ENVY Pro 6455 All-in-One Printer – Setup and User Guides. It identifies the printer, points owners to the printer setup guide, and lists the user documentation. Open it first and follow whatever setup instructions it shows for your device.

HP also publishes a family-level article, HP DeskJet, ENVY 6000, 6400 printers – First-time printer setup. It covers the first-time setup process for the printer series this model belongs to. Note that this is HP’s India-English support site, so wording or regional options may differ slightly from the US page.

- The printer, powered on and unpacked, with its setup ink or cartridges installed as HP’s guide instructs.
- The name (SSID) and password of the Wi-Fi network you want to use.
- A phone, tablet or computer that is already connected to that same network, since HP’s setup flow runs from your device.
- The printer within reasonable range of your router during setup. You can move it afterwards.
HP’s setup pages, as available to us, do not state that you need to buy any accessory, cable or extra consumable just to join the printer to Wi-Fi.

The general setup path
- Open the model support page linked above and choose the printer setup guide.
- Follow the prompts for your device type (phone or computer). HP’s current flow will tell you which app or installer to use.
- When prompted, let the setup process find the printer and select your home network.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password exactly as your router uses it; passwords are case-sensitive.
- Wait for the setup to confirm the printer is connected, then print a test page to verify.
If the printer does not appear or won’t join
Check the basics
- Confirm your phone or computer is on the same network you want the printer to join, not a guest network or a mobile connection.
- Re-check the password for typos.
- Restart the printer and, if needed, your router, then try the setup flow again.
- Move the printer closer to the router to rule out a weak signal.
Put the printer back into Wi-Fi setup mode
If the printer was previously connected to another network, or an earlier attempt left it in a bad state, it may need to be returned to its Wi-Fi setup mode. HP lists a separate resource for this, but the exact button or menu steps are version-specific and we could not verify them, so we are not printing a sequence that might be wrong. Look for the Wi-Fi setup or network restore instructions from HP’s model support page, and follow those for your printer’s control panel.
Router settings worth knowing about
Routers with a separate guest network, client isolation, MAC filtering or combined multi-band names can block printer discovery. HP’s retrieved pages do not specify which band this model requires, so check the printer’s specifications in HP’s documentation if your router splits bands.
