For a TV or other wired source, use one of its three analog RCA inputs only when that device has stereo analog audio outputs. The R200A’s published connections do not list optical or HDMI inputs, so a TV with only digital audio outputs needs a compatible conversion route. The receiver also supports Bluetooth 5.3 Multipoint for compatible wireless audio sources.
Connect an MM turntable to the phono input
- Check the turntable’s output type and instructions. Yamaha identifies the R200A’s phono connection as suitable for an MM phono source; not every turntable has the same output arrangement.
- Connect the turntable’s left and right audio leads to the R200A’s dedicated phono input. If the turntable has a ground wire, follow the turntable and receiver instructions for grounding.
- Select the receiver’s phono input for playback.
If the turntable is set to line-level output, or its output type is unclear, check its manual before connecting it to the phono input. The Yamaha specifications establish support for an MM phono connection, not every turntable configuration. Yamaha R200A overview

Connect a TV: check its audio outputs first
The R200A has three analog RCA inputs, but Yamaha’s published connection list does not include optical or HDMI inputs. Whether you can connect the TV directly therefore depends on the outputs on that specific television. Yamaha R200A specifications

If the TV has stereo analog RCA audio output
- Connect the TV’s left and right audio outputs to one available analog RCA input on the R200A.
- Note the input label printed beside the receiver’s sockets, then select that input on the receiver.
- Set the TV’s audio output to stereo or PCM if its menu requires an audio-format choice for analog output.
A stereo RCA cable is appropriate only when the TV has matching analog outputs. It does not convert optical or HDMI audio.

If the TV has only optical or HDMI ARC/eARC
Do not connect an optical or HDMI cable directly to the R200A as though it had a matching input. First identify the TV’s model and available audio outputs; then choose a converter or other compatible connection route for those outputs. The Yamaha connection list does not establish compatibility with a particular TV or recommend a converter model.
Connect other wired audio sources
A CD player or other source with stereo analog RCA output can use any available one of the R200A’s three analog RCA inputs. Yamaha names CD players as a source type, but the cited materials do not map each rear-panel RCA socket to a specific source name. Use the label printed beside the input you connect, and select that same input for playback. Yamaha R200A overview
