Connect the soundbar’s HDMI port labeled HDMI OUT (TV eARC/ARC) or HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC) to the TV’s HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC. Then select the soundbar as the TV’s sound output and the matching TV/ARC input on the soundbar. A cable plugged into an ordinary HDMI port will not provide ARC or eARC.
Connect the TV and soundbar
- Find the TV’s HDMI socket marked ARC or eARC. Check the soundbar for a socket marked HDMI OUT (TV eARC/ARC), HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC), or similar.
- Connect those two ports with an HDMI cable. For eARC, Samsung specifies an eARC-compatible cable, such as HEAC or HEC; check the manuals for your exact devices and the cable you already own before buying another.
- Turn on the TV and soundbar. Set the TV’s sound output to the connected soundbar or HDMI receiver. On the soundbar, choose the TV/ARC input if it does not switch automatically.
The socket labels and available features vary by model. Connecting through ARC can carry TV audio, but eARC formats require eARC support in the relevant devices and a compatible cable. Check the manuals for the TV, soundbar, source device, and content to confirm the signal path and supported formats. Samsung’s ARC/eARC guidance explains its compatibility and cable requirements.

Set up a Samsung TV
- Connect the TV’s ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC) port.
- Enable Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC). One Samsung Canada example path is Settings → General → External Device Manager.
- If your TV has the option, open Audio → Expert Settings → HDMI eARC Mode and choose Auto. Samsung’s US and Canada guidance says this setting is off by default on the supported models it covers.
- Set the TV’s sound output to the connected soundbar or receiver if it has not selected it automatically.
These are example menu paths, not universal ones. Samsung menus differ by model series and region; use your TV’s manual if the labels do not match. Samsung India’s instructions provide region-specific guidance.
Set up an LG TV
- Connect the TV’s HDMI input labeled ARC/eARC to the soundbar’s HDMI output labeled TV eARC/ARC.
- Select OPT/HDMI ARC on the soundbar if it does not detect the TV connection automatically.
- On the TV, open Settings → Sound → Sound Out and choose the wired or HDMI ARC soundbar output. Exact wording depends on the webOS generation and connected device.
- If needed, enable SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC). LG examples place this under General → Devices → HDMI Settings on webOS 6; older versions may place it under Connection or General.
LG’s ARC connection instructions note that menus can differ by model. If you specifically want eARC audio formats, verify that both your TV and soundbar support eARC; an ARC connection alone does not establish that.

If there is no sound or the connection is unreliable
- Check the ports. Make sure the cable runs between the TV’s ARC/eARC port and the soundbar’s TV eARC/ARC output, not between ordinary HDMI ports.
- Check both selections. Set the TV’s sound output to the soundbar and the soundbar’s input to TV, ARC, or the corresponding HDMI source. Check that volume is up and mute is off.
- Check HDMI-CEC. Enable Anynet+ on Samsung or SIMPLINK on LG if needed. The menu path depends on the TV model and software.
- Test with only the TV and soundbar connected. Disconnect other HDMI devices temporarily. If audio works, reconnect those devices one at a time to identify whether one is interfering. Samsung warns that external devices can affect ARC/eARC operation; see its ARC/eARC troubleshooting guidance.
- On Samsung, check eARC Mode. If the TV offers HDMI eARC Mode, set it to Auto. If the problem persists, Samsung also recommends checking the TV software and soundbar firmware.
- For a format-specific problem, check the signal settings. Confirm the TV’s digital audio output format and the codec support listed in the manuals for the TV and soundbar. Support for a format such as Dolby Atmos, TrueHD, or DTS depends on the particular devices and signal path; do not assume it will work simply because the connection uses eARC. See Samsung’s no-sound troubleshooting steps.
What to verify before expecting eARC features
- Both the TV and soundbar have eARC—not just ARC—if eARC-specific formats are your goal.
- The source device, TV input, TV audio settings, and soundbar all support the format and signal path you intend to use.
- The cable is eARC-compatible for an eARC connection. The manufacturer guidance does not mean every setup needs a newly purchased cable; check the cable and device manuals first.
- Menus and feature availability can vary by model, software version, and region, so confirm details in the manuals for your exact equipment.
