How to Connect a Sony INZONE Headset to a PS5, PC, or Phone

The correct connection method depends on your exact Sony INZONE model. Headsets that include a USB transceiver generally use that adapter with a PS5 or computer; some models also support Bluetooth. The INZONE Buds have additional phone requirements: Bluetooth requires LC3 (LE Audio), while their USB-transceiver route requires USB-C and does not support iPhone.

For the INZONE H9 II, connect the supplied transceiver, select PC for a computer or OTHER for a PS5 or smartphone, then turn on the headset. If your model has different switches or controls, use its model-specific Sony Help Guide rather than assuming the H9 II procedure applies.

Identify your INZONE model before connecting

INZONE connection instructions are not interchangeable. Start with the model name printed on the headset, its packaging, or the Sony companion documentation. The H9 II and the INZONE Buds demonstrate why this matters: the H9 II can use its USB transceiver with a PS5, PC, or a USB-C phone, while the Buds require LC3 (LE Audio) for Bluetooth and have a different USB-C limitation.

Also identify the route you want to use:

  • USB transceiver: A small wireless adapter supplied with supported INZONE headsets. It is the primary route described for H9 II use with PS5 and PC.
  • Bluetooth: Available only on models that support it. Bluetooth requirements differ, especially for INZONE Buds.
  • USB-C phone connection: A transceiver route for compatible phones. USB-C alone does not guarantee compatibility.

Before changing settings, confirm that the headset, transceiver, and destination device belong to the same supported setup. Sony’s Help Guide for the exact model is the authority for switch names, button locations, supported radios, and device exceptions.

Connection routes at a glance

Route Known model or device condition What to check
USB transceiver to PS5 H9 II transceiver is identified by Sony as compatible with PS5 and PC. Set the H9 II transceiver switch to OTHER, insert it directly into the console, power on the headset, and select the USB headset as output if audio does not switch automatically.
USB transceiver to PC H9 II and supported replacement-transceiver scenarios. Set the H9 II switch to PC, connect the adapter, then choose the INZONE USB device as the computer’s sound output if necessary.
USB transceiver to smartphone H9 II guidance covers USB-C-compatible smartphones. The phone may require a setting such as USB-device detection or USB On-The-Go. Names vary by phone.
Bluetooth to phone Only models with Bluetooth support. INZONE Buds require LC3 (LE Audio). Confirm that the phone supports the required Bluetooth mode and that Bluetooth is enabled.
INZONE Buds through USB transceiver Requires a USB-C connection; Sony says iPhone is not supported through this route. USB-C compatibility is not guaranteed for every device.

A route can be physically possible yet still fail to deliver the feature you need. Check four things before choosing one: whether the model supports it, whether the device has the required port or radio, whether game audio and microphone/chat work as intended, and whether the phone needs USB-C, OTG, or LC3.

How to connect a Sony INZONE headset to a PS5

H9 II: use the supplied USB transceiver

  1. Insert the supplied USB transceiver directly into the PS5. Avoid routing it through an unpowered hub while you are diagnosing a connection problem.
  2. Move the transceiver’s switch to OTHER. On the H9 II, this is the setting for a console or smartphone rather than a computer.
  3. Turn on the headset.
  4. Wait for the PS5 and headset to show or announce the connection. Start a game or another audio source to verify that sound is actually playing.
  5. If the PS5 continues using another output, open its sound settings and select the connected USB headset as the audio output.

Sony states that the H9 II USB transceiver is compatible with both PC and PS5. The switch position is still important: leaving it on PC when you are using a PS5 can prevent the expected connection.

H9, H7, and H5: direct connection and output selection

Sony’s audio troubleshooting guidance for the H9, H7, and H5 says to connect the transceiver directly to the PS5 and select the USB headset as the audio output when necessary. The exact control layout and switch labels depend on the model, so do not copy the H9 II switch instruction unless your headset is specifically an H9 II.

If the PS5 does not detect the headset

Keep the headset and the console/transceiver within about 1 meter while pairing. Sony’s H9 II pairing guidance recommends restarting the console and trying the pairing process again if the first attempt fails. A long USB extension, a loose adapter, or a transceiver connected through a hub can make the problem look like a headset fault, so test the direct connection first.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

How to connect a Sony INZONE headset to a PC

H9 II: select PC on the transceiver

  1. Connect the USB transceiver to the computer.
  2. Set its switch to PC.
  3. Turn on the headset.
  4. Play audio and, if the computer uses another device, select the INZONE USB headset as the output in the operating system’s sound settings.
  5. For voice chat, select the INZONE microphone as the input in the game or chat application when that application does not follow the system default.

The H9 II transceiver is designed to work with both PC and PS5, but its switch tells the adapter which operating mode to use. If the computer does not see it, remove and reinsert the adapter, then try another USB port.

Pairing a supported replacement transceiver on a PC

Sony documents a replacement-transceiver procedure for a supported INZONE headset. It is not proof that one replacement adapter fits every INZONE model, so verify the model listing and instructions before buying or pairing.

  1. Connect the replacement transceiver to the PC.
  2. Hold the transceiver’s connect button for about five seconds.
  3. Bring the headset to within about three feet (approximately 1 meter) of the adapter.
  4. Turn on the headset.
  5. Wait for the pairing indication. Once pairing succeeds, the headset connects automatically according to Sony’s procedure.

If your adapter has no button in the location described by Sony, stop and consult the Help Guide for your model. Controls differ among headsets, and forcing an unrelated sequence can leave the original pairing state unchanged.

Can you connect an INZONE headset to a phone?

Yes, but the answer depends on the headset and the phone. A USB-C port does not automatically make every INZONE transceiver or every phone compatible. Some phones also require a USB detection or USB On-The-Go setting before they will recognize an audio accessory.

H9 II with a USB-C phone

  1. Connect the H9 II transceiver to the phone’s USB-C port.
  2. Set the H9 II transceiver switch to OTHER, the setting Sony specifies for a smartphone or console.
  3. Turn on the headset.
  4. Start phone audio and check whether it is routed to the headset.
  5. If nothing happens, look in the phone’s connection or USB settings for an option named something like Detect USB device or USB On-The-Go. The wording and location differ by manufacturer and operating-system version.

USB-C phone support in Sony’s H9 II guidance is conditional. The phone must accept the transceiver as a USB audio device, and the necessary detection setting may need to be enabled. A USB-C connector by itself is not a compatibility guarantee.

INZONE Buds: Bluetooth requirements

The INZONE Buds do not use Bluetooth Classic. Sony says a phone must support LC3 (LE Audio) for a Bluetooth connection. If an Android phone does not support LE Audio, Sony directs users to the supplied USB transceiver instead.

This makes the Buds different from a headset that can pair with almost any conventional Bluetooth phone. Check the phone’s published Bluetooth capabilities, not just whether its settings include a Bluetooth toggle.

INZONE Buds: USB-transceiver requirements

The Buds’ USB-transceiver route requires USB-C. Sony says iPhone is not supported through that route, and compatibility with all USB-C devices is not guaranteed. If the phone is an iPhone, or if its USB-C implementation does not recognize the adapter, use a model-supported alternative rather than repeatedly attempting the same pairing sequence.

Bluetooth and simultaneous connections

Use Bluetooth only when your particular INZONE model supports it. A headset can have a Bluetooth radio and still impose limits on how that radio works alongside its wireless transceiver.

For the H9 II, Sony explains that a Bluetooth phone call or chat can run at the same time as a 2.4 GHz transceiver connection to a PC or PS5. During that Bluetooth call or chat, however, the headset microphone is assigned to the Bluetooth conversation. You cannot simultaneously use the headset microphone for chat on the PC or PS5.

If your goal is game audio on a console or computer plus a phone call, test the microphone direction before relying on this arrangement. Listening to both sources does not mean both devices can use the microphone at once.

Why an INZONE headset will not connect

USB-transceiver checks

  1. Confirm that the headset and the destination device are powered on.
  2. Check the transceiver switch. On the H9 II, use PC for a computer and OTHER for a PS5 or smartphone.
  3. Remove and firmly reinsert the transceiver. On a PC, test a different USB port.
  4. Connect the adapter directly to the PS5 or PC while troubleshooting rather than through a hub.
  5. Restart the computer, PS5, or USB-C phone, then reconnect the transceiver.
  6. Keep the headset close to the transceiver—Sony’s H9 II pairing advice uses about 1 meter as the working distance.
  7. If pairing is still required, hold the transceiver connect control and the headset power button for about five seconds or longer, then wait for the pairing indication. Use this only when it matches your model’s instructions.

The device connects but there is no sound

A successful wireless link does not always change the operating system’s selected output. On a PS5, select the USB headset as the audio output in sound settings. On a computer, choose the INZONE USB device as the system output and, if needed, inside the game or chat application as well. Start audio playback after changing the output so you can verify the result.

A USB-C phone does not recognize the adapter

Check whether the phone requires USB-device detection or USB On-The-Go. Restart the phone with the transceiver disconnected, reconnect it after the phone is running, and verify that the phone is playing audio. If the model is an INZONE Buds, remember that USB-C compatibility is not universal and that iPhone is not supported through the Buds’ USB-transceiver route.

Bluetooth pairing fails

  1. Confirm that Bluetooth is enabled on the phone and that the INZONE model supports the required Bluetooth mode.
  2. For INZONE Buds, confirm LC3 (LE Audio) support; a phone that supports only Bluetooth Classic is not sufficient.
  3. Make sure the phone is actually playing audio, then disconnect and reconnect the headset.
  4. Restart the phone and try again.

Do not make a factory reset your first response. Sony notes that resetting removes settings and Bluetooth pairings, after which every Bluetooth device must be paired again. Reserve it for a model-specific recovery procedure after the simpler checks have failed.

What to do if the INZONE USB dongle is lost

Sony documents a replacement-transceiver path for supported INZONE headsets and provides a pairing procedure. Replacement availability does not mean that one adapter is universal. Before purchasing, match the replacement to the exact headset model and confirm that Sony’s instructions cover that combination.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After obtaining a verified replacement, use the PC pairing sequence: connect the adapter, hold its connect button for about five seconds, place the headset within roughly 1 meter, power on the headset, and wait for the pairing indication. If the replacement listing or Help Guide specifies a different sequence, follow that model-specific procedure instead.

Model and device checklist

  • Model: Have you identified the exact INZONE headset or Buds model?
  • Destination: Is the target a PS5, PC, USB-C phone, or Bluetooth phone?
  • Adapter mode: If using an H9 II, is the switch on PC for a computer or OTHER for a PS5 or smartphone?
  • Physical connection: Is the transceiver inserted directly and firmly?
  • Phone requirements: Does the phone support USB audio and, where required, USB detection/OTG or LC3 LE Audio?
  • Output selection: Is the USB headset selected as the audio output on the PS5 or computer?
  • Microphone expectation: If Bluetooth and a transceiver are active together, which device is assigned the microphone?
  • Replacement fit: If the original adapter is missing, does the replacement explicitly match the headset model?

When to consult the model-specific Help Guide

Use the exact Sony Help Guide whenever your model is not an H9 II, the adapter has different labels, the headset does not include a transceiver, or a phone connection is involved. The available Sony guidance does not establish exact steps for every INZONE model, every phone operating system, or every USB-C device. Treat the H9 II and INZONE Buds procedures as model-specific examples, not a universal INZONE standard.
